I'm a guitar beginner here. My first exercise would be to grow my nails, just kidding :) I really enjoyed your video and I also saw your book on the web. Congrats. I'd like to buy it for my iPad so I can notate some Chords on top of the exercises with my iPad pencil. I wouldn't do that in a real book. Question: When I buy it, will I get it in a digital PDF format for my iPad, or will be as paperback? Thanks
Forgot to mention. I met Segovia in Germany around 1977. We conversed for about 30 minutes. I was discouraged when he told me he practiced every day 4 to 7 hours!!
@@johnjomp I just turned 71 and started lessons 2 years ago. My instructor decided to retire from teaching and concentrate on performance, so I am going to be looking for a new teacher. I just stumbled across these videos, but just started working on a classical piece that made me realize I really like classical.
What a surprise! I'm used to practice on a daily basis (steel strings) and never heard of these exercises. I'm used to fingerpicking, but it seems these exercises you introduce will enable me to raise my level (I only play guitar for 4+ years now but eager to improve), so thanks for posting this, I'll incorporate what I see in my daily practice.
I'm trying to learn Erik Satie's Gymnopedie currently. I really appreciate the highlighting exercise for this piece in particular. It's really interesting how important that seemingly subtle technique is for that piece.
Hello, Beatrix, thank you very much for this video. It has been so useful to me. I have improved my technic enormously. Besides, I think you are a beautiful, generous person. I wish you the best 😘
It is because of people like you, those who like sharing their knowledge to all, that too without charging anything, that I still have faith in humanity. Thank you dear angel.
Thanks for the exercises! Here are some time stamps for reminders what to do when practicing (do watch the whole video for full explanation!) Right hand balancing (i-a, m-a, i-m) 1:32 string changing (i-a, m-a, i-m) 2:34 highlighting (i,a,m,p) 6:50 arpeggio 8:02 rasgueado 11:59 tremolo 14:45 Left hand spider walk 16:08 hammer on (all finger variations) 17:45 pull off 20:35 bar chords 23:34 stretching 26:52
This is brilliant. All the exercises are relevant short cuts to whatever style of music you prefer: classical, rock, metal, jazz etc. But as with all 'technique' exercises - never forget the ears. Let the ears in on every note or sequence of notes played, because it teaches the ears the subtle nuances important when performing or composing. Every note sends a single message, every sequence of notes sends a sentence, every nuance alters the meaning of the sentence. So never ever forget the ears when practising. Lots of love, Bea, for a brilliant video. Wish there'd been a guitar tutor like you when I wanted to learn to play the guitar.
I am not a classical player, but I will incorporate these exercises to my routine on steel string; I feel like it's going to boost accuracy and speed especially on my left hand (right handed) because I don't like using a plectrum when playing, I need to feel the strings :) Thank you so much for the free lesson maestro!
Thank you for making this video! Let me ask you: is there any age limit when trying to improve your guitar skills? I am 70 years old and have some previous practice, like at an intermediate level. My ambition is to get really efficient at 80 😊!
Well you are an inspiration my friend! I admire that you are still ready to learn new things and ready to improve! When I get 70 I hope to be like that too! I had 60+ and 70+ students and the fine movements are getting harder to teach the body, not gonna lie. But I think it just takes a bit longer and a bit more determination, and patient focused practice :) I think I really don't have enough experience to say anything smart, maybe just to try to progress slowly, little by little, but that goes for everybody from age 5 to 100 too :D
This is amazing! You are amazing! It sounds so fast, but you are clearly using technique to play super fast, but at a comfortable pace. Its so awesome. Like a controlled chaos. I cant decide which is more beautiful, you, or the music you make. ❤ thank you!
Wow thank u so much for these exercises!! I picked up guitar 7 months ago and I just love it. Finger picking is my fav. My brain became better since I play guitar 😊
Love your channel. Enjoy watching you mature as a musician. The "v" in video needs you to 1. push your lips out less than when making the "w" sound, like a soft kiss, and 2. blow through the small opening of your mouth. That is one exercise that will serve you well.
Thank you for taking the time to help others learn guitar. I make beats mainly on my laptop using a midi controller keyboard. I realized that most of the music I hear in my musical imagination, sounds like a r&b, blues, gospel, neo soul guitar player. These exercises and your teaching style, will help me manifest what I hear in my musical imagination. Keep up the great work! Peace an blessings to you and your family.

Hello , I have a question I just bought a Yamaha CG172SF Guitar Flamenco my question is my weight and my belly behind the guitar and being in the way when I’m playing any advice??
First of all, thank you for making this video, I really appreciate it :>. I'm a new player ( like.. yesterday new..). I'm still on the 1st exercises, because my fingers keep touching the other strings.. Is this normal for beginner ..? Am I doing something wrong..? ;-; Thank you for the video ( again ), and sorry for my bad English, I'm not a native speaker.
The excessive jump cuts in editing are very distracting. Just speak, and don't be afraid of including the final syllable of a sentence, or even just the breath in-between. It's how people generally talk.
Thanks, Beatrix - these are fantastic! (Although I have to confess, that final left-hand stretching exercise is a chop-buster for me...) I hope you don't mind if I share this with my students...
Ì think you just need a few exercises, too. You need something that builds stamina, flexibility, and timing at the same time, and have the most important aspects covered. I think there's no way around to have more exercises duo to the high amount of different techniques, though, but in order to have your hands fit, there's really not much you have to do.
Any suggestions on keeping a decent crop of fingernails? I work outside a lot, and have thin, flexible fingernails that damage easily. So I keep them as short as the nails on my fret hand? I don't know what to do.
I just want to ask that can I learn classical guitar techniques on an acoustic guitar. Obviously, I know they are different but as of now I really have the money to buy a classical guitar.

Guys, I didn't understand the fisrt exercise sheet music that she put on the right down side. Couldn't any of u help with the read of the sheet music in orer of me to reproduce this exercise on my guitar? Big thanks for the help.
I don't like using my index and middle fingers on bass guitars because it's like using sandpaper. It eats your nails. I only use it when it is essential in the songs. When studying, I avoid it.
Beatrix, nagyon szépen köszönöm a leckét. Abszolút kezdőként szeretnék egy stabil technikát felépíteni. Gyakorlataid segítenek ebben. Volna egy kérdésem. A jobb csuklót egyenesen kell tartani amikor i m ujjakkal pengetek a mélyebb húrok felé? Ilyenkor kicsit a könyököm és a vállam is fölfelé mozdul. A tanárom szerint a könyökömnek és vállamnak mozdulatlannak kell lenni. Szerinte a jobb pengető kezemet kellene kicsit bal felé fordítani. Ezt viszont én nem tartom ergonomikusnak. Neked mi a véleményed erről? Szerintem nagyon jó az angolod, először nem is ismertem fel hogy nem az anyanyelved. Lehetséges magyar aláírással ellátni a videóidat?

I pick 2 exercises every week and work on them for 20min at the beginning of my daily practice. I like the simplicity of this approach to guitar.
