    Rick Hotton often talks about finding "your karate" and that is what I saw yesterday. Keep going on that journey of discovery

    Interesting point about how a kata can be performed differently depending on the karateka's focus. I've never thought about it that way before.

    Thank you sencie for the clarity regarding stances , when I was practicing many years back the old school shotakan , we had only limited schools .. we never had you tube / tic tocs now the media has opened up oceans of information and variations from different sencies , & schools from all over the world. You are inspiring us to regain our interest again . Thankyou .

    I'm doing your exact journey to "bring back to Okinawa" my ShitoRyu! I'm studying Gamaku, Chinkuchi, Muchimi and Atifa principles with a Uechi Ryu sensei and I can feel my Katas and my capability to generate power are improving a lot!

    I agree a lot with the heel part, you can generate a lot of power without having the heel in contact with the floor at all times, for example, in kumite you'll almost never see anyone with their feet in the same way as in kata.
    Started to wonder why that aspect seems to be so important in the way we see kata. To me often times it feels like people have concepts like that because of the mindset of "it's martial arts, it's supposed to be difficult and awkward, so you'll reach your mastery once you got that right", when it should be the other way around. As martial artist we should follow the natural movements of our body to be more efficient, swimming with the current, not against it.
    Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and explanations about your kata!

    I think that this is a great example of the difference between "Japanese" Karate and "Okinawan" Karate

    I literally read all of these critical comments yesterday!
    I only wanted to point out that your moves look more relaxed. Your hip snaps look amazingly powerful, yet the forearm is not tensed up. Everything looks amazing from a "Kung Fu" guy

    Low stances are essential if you grapple zenkutsu dachi is similar to a single leg takedown (not one to one but a similar motion)

    Sensei,
    I very much appreciate your open mind and inquisitive spirit. I hope that in your research you’ll take a look at the method in which the “internal arts” generate power if you haven’t already. It was a game changer for me. I’m making more power now with less effort and less motion than I ever thought possible. If you need any reliable resources in that regard just let me know. Your sincerity in your quest is inspiring.

    Your hips movement completely changed but more power. The technique though seems different, the uke, tsuke

    Hey Sensei! It’s Andy from the retreat haha. Do you feel like your punches are easily telegraphed in a kumite/sparring scenario? If the hips are moving so much before the punch comes in order to produce the kinetic chain, isn’t that telegraphing to the opponent that something is coming?

      @KarateDojowaKu  Місяць тому +1

      When I'm doing kumite, I don't or can't do a full twist, so it isn't that much of a telegraphing. Also, you can sneak it into the 2 of your one two combinations.

      @@KarateDojowaKu when people say the purpose of karate Is self defence is that true or is it just marketing? Why was karate developed on Okinawa? They’re must of been some sort of conflict going on in Okinawa for the people needing to develop such an art

    Jesus died and rose agian if you believe that he died and rose and were saved by grace through faith alone you will be saved. Once Saved Always saved no need to repent from your sins for salvation.

      Just curious what does that last sentence mean? We are still called towards repenting for our sins even if we are saved by faith in Christ.
