i used to practice shotokan when i was little (from 6 to 8 yo) and even studied japanese in high school. i now have a sprained ankle and suddenly am super interested in practicing my kicks again. i love this sensei, he explains all the possible errors and how to correct them, how to position you body since the kimono doesnt give out many details on the body movement and his kicks are very crisp. i feel like a little girl again, when i was amazed with all my senses by my sensei s raw strength, the rustle of the kimono and the powerful energy in the impact of his movement. i never got to that level, for me it was more like gymnastics and katas because i was such a skinny and tender child. developed a severe case of loud mouth afterwards so karate wasnt necessary haha
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I'm 30 years old and I just joined a karate class. It is a free class at my local community center because right now I can't afford paid classes, but the classes being free also means that the teacher doesn't get to spend much time explaining things in detail, so it has been confusing (even though I'm having so much fun). I'm so grateful to anyone that shares their knowledge for free, not everyone has the luxury to pay for classes.
Thank you. This took me back to the 80's. I studied traditional Karate-Do for several years as a kid. We only called out things in Japanese. This really took me back.
I really enjoyed your karate Kick Tutorial!! Thanks so much for showing us the different kicking techniques, and teaching us the names to the kicks you demonstrated. I really liked your teachings in the Marital Arts. I really enjoy Martial Arts , but had to retire after my back injury. I miss it , however decided to take a break. My doctors say I can. Maybe some day I can return and continue my journey. Can't wait for you next video demonstration. Thanks !
Maintaining allignment of the hips and the feet placement at the beginning and end of the kicks is an underrated aspect improved by actually training karate rather than just loosely learning the kicks and practicing on a bag at the gym or at home. Your sensei will guide you to good form and you'll practice that so so much that its unforgettable - muscle memory. Subsequently you learn strong BALANCED form that keeps you more ready for executing more techniques and or cutting angle and so on. Side kicks are my fav, i practice it in slow motion as well as fast
Nice video, I’m glad I came back to karate I missed it a bit. I used to practice karate I ended up being a first degree black belt now I’m trying to get back into it. It’s nice seeing different types of karate styles since I practice shūdōkan. Keep up the great work.👍🏼😁
Sir, I taught that in Mae Geri, if you kicked it with snap that will bring back the kicking foot to where it started; while in Mae Geri done in thrust kick, it will make the kicker step forward his kicking foot because of the forward thrust of the leg.
Thank you so much! Your video really help me understand where I do mistakes! I had just started karate and a lot of things were not clear to me. But after I find your Chanel I'm going do better my training.
After hearing a Japanese guy say the names of these kicks, I still cannot say them properly! I’m so English. 😂😂 In Wado we practice nidan geri with the first kick being just a knee rather than extension. It’s always in mind as two full kicks. I think it’s thought of more as a climbing technique with the first kick standing on the opponent. I personally use it as a thrust. Using the first kick to launch for distancing kicking the rear leg right through the opponent as a forceful front kick. Nidan geri literally has loads of applications with so many variations. One of my favourite kicks.
ありがとございます。このチャナアルが好き. Clear demonstration and explanation of techniques in a pragmatic manner. Plus I get to practice Kanji and Hiragana along with it. Thus cultivating harmony of Brush and Body.
We always wore a heavy grade cotton Gi so the sound of the snap acted as a training aid. The louder the snap of Gi the harder you are training. Believe me it helps......a lot
This video helped me a looooooot!!! Thanks Sensei, I really liked your channel, I saw a video from 2 years ago and I thought "I hope he is still doing videos" and you are doing videos! Keep the good work, loved the channel Maybe I get some translations for Portuguese as there is a lot of Portuguese and Brazilian karatecas.
Beautiful technique, great teaching spirit, inspirational. I am interested in the difference to the Taekwondo I studied. A lot of similarities, but with Taekwondo the side kick starts with the knee high on the outside, and then the hips twist and push forward, so the kick comes straight in powerfully. Then there's the back kick which has two versions, stright back and back side. This is very useful as a counter, although a bit dangerous as you can cahch someone as they are moving in (that's the idea!) but without so much control. The hook kick is a bit different. Then there are two crescent kicks, with leg basicall straight, from inside and outside. These can be devastating as they can come down on the collarbone. My teachers were young brothers (like this guy in the video) from Thailand, with a Korean dad. They were just incredible. Beautiful form. I got up to blue belt (one before brown) and switched to Aikido, because of limited time I had to choose and ultimately Aikido was much better for me, but I loved both. Decades later, with COVID, I have taken up my basic TaeKwonDo punching exercises again to stay a bit in shape- you can do those in an apartment, w/o a partner or class!
The difference between Karate n Tae Kwon Do is in Karate you have your basic moves in several technique, however in Tae Kwon Do there are more moves in every technique, but yes there a lot of similar kicks in both martial arts.
Omg!!! I love your video , thank's for your pronunciation in Japanese , and I learned a new kick, in my style we don't do the "uchi mawashi geri" I like it 😍 tank you so much
When I was little I used to do a kick similar to the Nidan Geri. The body kick as a feint and the head kick for the surprise attack. Never thought I was in the world of Karate already.
I am learning uechi ryu karate from MUMBAI, india. Your vidoes are quite helpful for revising things done in class. Otherwise its quite difficult to understand solely on basis of command paper. Thank You for your videos

TaeKwondo is Korean Karate. They learned Japanese Karate during the Japanese occupation of Korea under the Toyotomi shogunate. The term "TaeKwondo" didn't even exist prior to the early 1950's. Prior to that, all dojos in Korea simply read "Korean Karate" on the storefront. In an effort to galvanize nationalism, the Korean government commisioned all Korean Karate instructors to modify the original Japanese katas and thus, changed the name from "Korean Karate" to "TaeKwondo". Mere politics at work but it is, in fact, Karate.
Respected sir, it's nice tutorial and guidance about karate kicks .My favorite kick is side-kick and upper in and out heel kicks as inner and outer hammer kicks mostly used by me in full-contact and belts grade examinations and sidekick was practice by me on wall and trees which became most dynamic powerful and fastest kicks ,but I like your all kicks .Heartly thanks.

When you showed the mawashi geri without moving the knee it just made me more scared of muay thai fighters, they throw them kicks like a baseball bat. Great video, Sensei!
Only thing is to differenciate between front “snap” kick and front “thrust” kick which are both types of Mae Geri, and his round kick the knee should come to the side first before you pivot into the round house this will give you a more powerful and sharp technique, watch Kanazawa’s round kick for example. Otherwise this is an excellent source for karate kicks and a great quick tutorial
