    Just bought the T-4. I'm a hobbyist so the 4 should be perfect for me. Hoping the stone will work well with the super steels available today. Shortly I will begin watching the sharpening videos and then practice on some cheap 'throw away' knives to get a feel for the system. Enjoy the Christmas holidays.

      Great choice, If the steels are to hard, you have always the choice to change to diamond wheels.

      Hej 86mielcarek, great to hear that you're happy with your T-8, this machine is more versatile than the T-1, this machine is only suitabel for kitchenknives not more,
      If you mean the drill bits with the sip in tungsten or Vidia material, these drills do I sharpen only with one facet just get the rounded dull shape bak to an sharper edge. Drill bits can be sharpened up to 22 mm diameter.

    Hello, I have a WickedEdge sharpening jig (which I love), and I'm looking to upgrade to a Tormek T8 because of the additional tools it can work on.
    My first question is this: What are the dimensions that the jigs can accommodate? So for the axe jig, what is the largest and smallest axe head it can handle? Same question for the knife jig and chisel jig. Thanks!
    My last question is about wheels: I think I want to use diamond wheels that are followed up with the Japanese wheel for a nice finish. Can I run the Japanese stone through the water that's been treated with the anti-corrosion? Also, do I have to change out the water as I increase in grit? Thanks again!

      Hej John, you'll find all the dimensions that are possible in the description of the jigs on our home page. II've sharpened a timber sport ax with the ax jig, The ACC is also suitable for our sharpening stones. Just think of the jumps between the grids, if they are to huge the finer will take longer. The Tormek Original SG-Stone is adjustable, diamond wheels are fix in the grid. Generally it is good to change the water, nothing is more disturbing than a bigger grid is damaging you fine finish, It is always a blance.

    Would the Tormek t4 with a diamond wheel and the mb102 be suitable to thin a knife? I'm currently using a flat whet stone to achieve thinning behind the edge but wondering if the t4 + diamond wheel could do the job well enough and faster. I know that a belt grinder would be a better tool, but i have no intention of buying one.
    Regards
    K

      You can for sure sharpen thin knives on the Tormek T-4. Depending on the form and length of the knife you would need the KJ-45 Centering Knife Jig or the KJ-140 Wide Centering Knife Jig. tormek.com/en/products/grinding-jigs/kj-45-centering-knife-jig
      You can absolutely sharpen knives on the Tormek diamond grinding wheels. Please be sure to apply very little pressure when sharpening on diamond grinding wheels.

      @@TormekSharpening hello, appreciate the reply but this what I meant is whether one could use the t4 to thin the knife behind the edge. Normally as you sharpen the knife and keep going up the knife as you remove metal you eventually end up with a knife that's too thick right behind the edge. This means the knife might have a very well sharpened edge, but will wedge on harder produce because of how much steel is right behind the edge. Can the t4 be used to deal with that issue?

    What drill sizes can you safely sharpen with the diamond wheel?

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  8 місяців тому

      Hej, if you're carful you can sharpen the range from 3-22 mm, to be sure from 5mm.

    I'm a huge fan of tormek products, but I must say that I believe it is a mistake and ultimately not ideal for the consumer to not have the functionality of scissor sharpening with either of the kitchen oriented products, the T1 and T2.

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  8 місяців тому

      Hej Matt, to sharpen scissors requires a complete different aproach and not the perfect tool on a diamond wheel due the steep sharpening angel. The sharpening of scissors is quite aggressive to super abrasive coatings like diamond.

      @Brandozabr, You’re probably up to speed on all the topics covered I’m not and found the video super informative, so for me not boring, Wolfgang gave no BS straight answers which are hard to come by, I don’t own any of their products although I would love to however they are very expensive in Australia.
