9:56 - Im the weirdo who enjoys sharpening that people send their knives to xD Whetstones, diamond plates, Tormek, belt grinders, ceramic rods etc. They all have a place and a function and all of them gets used on a regular basis. I do have a tip though, if you are using a Tormek or any powered system at all, try to keep the blade moving at all times. I noticed you stop at the heel and tip of the blade and wait there for a second before changing directions, this can create some weird facets and flat spots that compound over time. If you want to work a spesific part of the blade, just keep moving it back and forth over the same smaller area a few times, but dont stop.
I recently bought a T-1 with colourful handle. I am super Happy! Sharp knives without using a plate or cup to sharpen. yay
Great informative video, Darbin, and well done as it is thoughtful and considered. I've long been a Japanese wet stone sharpener myself. While this does take more time, I only do it about once a year as I hone often using a ceramic hone. I often sharpen my friends' knives, however, so I spend more time sharpening that I might otherwise! That's why I would consider the Tormek-T1; I am particular about having sharp knives (for myself and my friends!).
I very much appreciated the paper thickness gages you used. Thank you.😃
Been looking at getting one of these just for the ease of use and for the daily sharpening. I regularly sharpen all my knives on my T4.
I have the Japanese water stones, but after having kids i don’t have the time for that. I’m getting the T1 instead now, dull knives drive me nuts 😅thank you!
Thanks Darbin, I use my T4 freehand.
Pretty interesting device indeed, Linn! 😃
It seems to work great!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks for the video, I just receive mine. Can't wait to have all of my Japanese knives always stay sharp. I'm a crazy Chinese woman who loves knives and cooking!😅
I use stones but have artrithis so I need a change. This was really good advice for me.
I use diamond plates, coarse and fine, by hand and a chef's steel. For me, maintaining the edge with the steel makes sharpening on the plates an infrequent occurrence. Interesting product. Good video. Thanks for sharing.
That's the problem with diamond plates, you don't get around to doing too often. But I'm sure they're nice and sharp once you do! Thanks John!
Great thx! I bought one.
Does the sharpening wheel and honing wheeling need to be replaced often?
Good question
Nice❤buy new ones usually need a Sharpener.
Haha you must have a nice collection of knives by now!
Are those scratches on the length of the blades from the machine?
Don’t know about her scratches but my T1 definitely scratched up three of my knives. I was guilty of the mistake she pointed out at the end of her video. Most of my knives I did correctly without scratches.
To be fair, scratches are almost inevitable on kitchen knives that are actually being used. You can get rid of alot of them with some scotch brite though, just make sure you follow the direction of the factory striations ^^
I use a TSPROF Kadet Pro, but it would be nice to have a rush option.
Can you use it on a whittling knife?
ACC-150 Anti-Corrosion Concentrate
Protects diamond grinding wheels against rust
Too bad you can't get it delivered outside of Europe. A bummer.
How much does that machine cost?

around 400$ ,not cheap . . .

The Tormek website does its best to make finding out the price as awkward as possible. It shouldn't take clicking and scrolling through page after page to find a price and when you do it's in Swedish krona.
Estoy en el neolítico afiló con una piedra😂Quien no quisiera está herramienta?🙌💖🇦🇷
Isn't it burn the knife's material, since it's works dry?
It revolves slowly, so I doubt it would ever do that. And it sharpens super fast, so you don't touch the knife there for a long period.
Yes, waterstones )
Nothing better than a gal with toys. How would you rate this against the t8
Sharpen and hone by hand. Muscle memory and holding at the correct angle are key. Also knowing that you don’t need to go beyond a 2 or 3 K stone in the kitchen. Honing a single edge knives is similar to honing chisels in that the bur will appear at the back an you need to keep the back flat. Also keep your stones flat with diamond coated flattening plates. Straight razors are another world and level of honing - jewelers loops help verify that edge and mirrored bevels, but you need to feel that shave.
You are right!
I use the same angle for all my knives. I never touch the screw so I always have only 3 moves at one side and then it is done.
i use water stones- takes practice but much cheaper
It can be, but at the same time good quality water stones can be like 100 dollars each. If you buy 3 different grits of those and a leather strop with some compound, thats pretty close to the price of one of these already. If you use some commonly available stones from the hardware store or such, theres no beating those for price to result as long as you put the time in to learn it properly ^^
Japanese water stones and for the less motivated members of my family an F Dick ‘X’ sharpener. I’m very fussy about my knives being sharp!
So you cant do cleavers?
Can you translate metric to imperial Jack Scaird nice job
Can you do cleavers in it?
