  • In this episode of the Tormek Sharpening classes we show you how to maintain your Tormek water-cooled sharpening machine. Tormek machines are known for their longevity, and are often inherited over generations. We strive for an exceptional build quality and backwards compatability, so that you will only have to invest in a Tormek once in a lifetime. In general, a Tormek machine is very low maintanance, but in this episode we go through a couple of things you can do to keep your Tormek in top trim for decades.
    We show you:
    * How to clean your Tormek machine,
    * How to get the friction back on the rubber drive wheel,
    * How to maintain your leather honing wheel,
    * How to maintain your grinding wheels,
    * How to get your old grindstone unstuck,
    * And more.
Did we miss anything? Ask away in the comments, and we will answer as soon as we can.

My torment T8 always squeaks when I turn it on. I’ve cleaned it and put white lithium grease on it but still squeaks when turned on. I can’t figure out why?

Hej @Treesapped can you please sent a film to support@tormek.se that we can sort out what the problem is.

@@TormekSharpening hi, I fixed the problem. The inner honing wheel was dirty, so I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and the squeaking went away. 😊

How can I tell the difference between a well used leather honing wheel or composite honing wheel? I purchased an older used Tormek, and I can’t figure out if it’s leather or composite. There’s a seam but it’s also black all the way through.

Hi Adam! If it is an original Tormek honing wheel and there's a seam it is a leather honing wheel. As I think you could tell from the product image, the composite material is also much thicker than the leather on a leather honing wheel: tormek.com/en/products/honing-wheels/composite-honing-wheels/cw-220-composite-honing-wheel
Hope this was helpful, stay sharp!

Do the electric motor bearings need to be lubed on a regular basis?

Hi! No, the motor is maintenance free so there's no need for that. Stay sharp!

Guys I am a bit disappointed. I purchased a T4 bush craft last week brand new. The wheel was not round. In fact it was making my whole machine wobble. I thought maybe the shaft was bent but no, the wheel was oval, not round. So I had to borrow a truing tool to round off the wheel. That took over an hour. I have to say it took the excitement out of my purchase. Please check the quality control on your wheels as it reflects poorly on Tormek. When registering I also let them know. No reply. Then I commented on another post by Tormek. No reply. No doubt I won’t receive a reply here either.

      Hi Thomas Kay!
We are very sorry to hear about your experience - that is not something that should be able to happen and we would have been very happy to help you if we were given the chance. All Tormek machines should of course be of the highest quality and that’s why we offer 8 years warranty.
In the machine registration form we encourage to contact support@tormek.se if there is a problem with the machine. But we appreciate your feedback and will look into making the registration form even clearer to prevent this from happening in the future.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to our support whenever you experience any trouble with your Tormek products. You can also find our contact details at tormek.com/contact if you’d prefer to call us.
      Good luck and Stay Sharp!
      /Victor from Tormek
