When I was younger, I always thought the design for hyrule field was so well detailed, and had potential for many plot points. I had always wished there more things to do in hyrule field.
Elden Ring coming along and making us fight a 50 ft tall gravity-manipulating warlord on a horse across like 5 sq. miles of wasteland scratched that itch for me.
One thing I don’t see mentioned enough regarding this mod is that unlike most fan mods, the actual script actually stays true and captures the Zelda writing style. Bravo to whoever wrote the running man’s dialogue. It carries that familiar Zelda whimsy coated with understated poignancy, that eludes so many fan writers.
it's so true. I'm a grown 30 year old and seeing the running man going super speed around link while boss music plays in the background evokes a visceral fear in me I haven't felt since I was a child
...The fact that the Sage's Locket only increases the User's magic power, heavily implies that the Running Man always had the capability to go that fast... He just never believed he could, so he never truly pushed himself.
This is incredibly well done! The cutscenes the battle style and even the comedy style is exactly what I'd expect from this game when I was a kid. You've managed to give me a feeling of nostalgia for something I've never seen before. Well done!
I swear I had a dream that was very, very close to this, but instead of me fighting the running man, it was Guru-Guru or the Windmill guy. But he was so fast that it overwhelmed me in the dream
Why is this better than most actual Zelda bosses from this and other games? The Boss in question is attacking practically and you don’t have to wait for some opening weak spot like every other time
This is a great mod. It’s not like what people try to do- always being silly and stuff. It’s GENUINE, and seems like a boss they would DEFINITELY make. The dialogue too, it’s perfect. Again, it’s not silly like what many people try to do.
This was already pretty great, and I thought the cut-scene at the end was the cherry on top, but no, you get an actual, useful reward to bring it all home.
And there he goes into the sunset I never knew what happened to him after that day some say he went into the lost woods put on some iron boots and never ran again others say he ran and ran till he couldn't no more....I guess will never know....do I care nah I got me a sweet charm that enhances my magic poor.
Legitimately a terrifying boss. There’s something unsettling about the temple boss music playing in the wide open Hyrule field while this maniac runs around trying to kill you
Mr bright:darn, this would have been a breeze for those who didn't wanted to just fight the oot bosses as kirby characters in "Haltmann:the game" Mr shine:though the context in uprising would had made more sense
I remember there was a version I played with a friend of mine when I was a kid (this was like in 99’) where when you were when you do the race against the running man, you could actually see the running man running in front of you and come close to catching up to him, but could never quiet beat him. What’s weird too is that the entrance to the Forrest was up on a hill from hyrule field. I have never been able to see this kind of version since then.
when i first saw triforce% i genuinely believed this was something unearthed in the games original code. its way too perfect and hilarious, the modders did an insanely good job
This was all done by code injection by the way, no altered cartridge needed. You can find this boss fight from a livestream event that claimed to have a hidden ending that used beta assets that were deactivated in the final build. That part was a lie, but the code injection isn't, which is a real feat of programming!
He says he just wants to run normally again and no longer cares about the magic.. *gives you the locket, then proceeds to sprint off into the sunset with a speed like a black man from Kenya
It would be cool of you find him later, still running fast, but he can stop to talk to you and say "its much easier to run with that weight off my shoulders" or something
I’d like to think that Navi’s tip would be “Link, its that **Running Man!** I can’t catch up, he is going so fast! Z Targeting will make it harder to hit him, unless we had something that can reach!” And for the biggoron’s sword “Link, the *Running Man* isn’t going to slow down any time soon! Bring out the big sword to slow him down!”
The fact he can take hits from the biggoron sword with 0 armor is terrifying. Dude is a force of nature.
Dude’s a unit
Dude is David Goggins of Hyrule.

The fact no actual boss takes place in hyrule field always amazed me. This works great!
Seriously, i love the concept of fighting a boss in a big openworld environment.

I agree. This is also one of the biggest reasons why The Missing Link is my favorite mod, it feels very canon yet creative with its dialogue.
@@bradyonetv I agree! The Missing Link also had writing that matched Zelda’s style. That team did a great job as well.
Wait what.
I thought this was legitimate until I read that this is a mod.

A great end to his arc

The fact that this entire monologue fits in perfectly with this game

The song picking up when he starts sprinting like a maniac. 👌
This is something that would be posted on Odyssey of Hyrule in 1999 forcing dozens to try in vain to make it happen in their gold carts
Would be crazy if there was a second phase where he runs so fast he creates a double and u are basically fighting 2 of them
Modders, write that down
*_"All this time, I've been fighting his after-image!?!?!?"_*
Or if you hit too many after images he does Akumas raging demon from street fighter and leave you with only half of a heart
in Zelda OOT you actually give him the bunny mask, would actually be canon if his phase 2 was him putting it on and him being a little faster.

This is why the Mailman from Majoras Mask actually didn't want to leave his job, he was powerful enough to take on the hero of time.
I was not prepared for the caliber of writing that the new lore of this scene just delivered

That setting sun as he ran off into the distance... so good....
That Rupee count is... Nice.
This will forever be the most hilarious thing the Zelda community ever did.

The infamous dive head is lethal

Yo this is SICK LMAO. It really seems fully custom crazy props to the creator
This is the kind of content I want from an OoT remaster.
the airdive is incredible
I wish, after you beat him, he’d get so angry, he just runs at you like a super speed car.
That diving concussion attack is nuts! I wonder if theres a way to dodge it in time
He is like the David Goggins of OOT.
This is how crazy majora's incarnation should've been D:
This actually fits so wel in a Zelda game, like its actually made by Nintendo
The Battle And The Story Behind It Actually Sounds Like Something Miyamoto Himself Would Put In. They Did Beautiful. ✨💙💯

Hyrule field always felt like a safe haven during the day.... and then I met those helicopter things
i remember the shock i felt when i first fought this boss. it was so unexpected and felt so unreal. good memories. fake ones.
Why does this feel like something that could’ve actually been in Zelda? Very nicely done.
I like how this mod takes a weird aspect of a sidequest in the base game and gives it a proper explanation that could fit in-universe.
Everything seems canon, you really did something "Zeldai-sh", I absolutely love it
This is so fun to watch! I loved the presentation on this.
To this very day, I STILL wonder what Link would've gotten if he had actually been able to beat the Running Man.
This feels like something right out of OOT. Entirely believable,
Him running into the sunset was like the cherry on top of the cherry on top 🥲
a fitting ending 😭
I like this a lot it feels like cut content from the actual game almost.
Awesome job! 👍 It's also great that we get to know the secret behind the Running Man.

Something that Miyamoto was programmed into the game for Zelda URA before it was scrapped.
What a brutal battle! The running man really wanted to kill Link.
What does Navi say about him?
ooh i wish i checked. I’ll load it up later and let you know
I’d like to think that Navi’s tip would be “Link, its that **Running Man!** I can’t catch up, he is going so fast! Z Targeting will make it harder to hit him, unless we had something that can reach!”
And for the biggoron’s sword “Link, the *Running Man* isn’t going to slow down any time soon! Bring out the big sword to slow him down!”
That's hilarious! Though it feels like the reward should be something that would make you move faster instead of just extending your magic bar.
Lol that rupee a borderline jumpscare just because it's this freakin guy 😅
