From the bridge of the Fleet Battlestation Ticonderoga, with its sweeping galactic views, to the desolate terrain of planet Klendathu, teeming with shrieking, fire-spitting, brain-sucking special effects creatures, acclaimed director PAUL VERHOEVEN crafts a dazzling epic based on Robert A. Heinlein's classic sci-fi adventure. CASPER VAN DIEN, DINA MEYER, DENISE RICHARDS, JAKE BUSEY, NEIL PATRICK HARRIS, PATRICK MULDOON, and MICHAEL IRONSIDE star as the courageous soldiers who travel to the distant and desolate Klendathu system for the ultimate showdown between the species.

Who else is here from Helldivers 2?

what are you doing watching this? we need to be spreading democracy!
Just re-watched the movie because of hd2😂
Yo!!!!!!😂
@andrewschleiss6269 hell yeah brother!!
Came here to watch this with a cup of Liber-tea
E
Why do i feel like this trailer is completely out of touch with the satirical theme everyone says starship troopers is all about? Especially in a comparison to helldivers?
For liberty!!
@@Muzzy12These are questions for marketers who promoted the film as an action movie, distorting its perception in advance. This positioning of the film contributed to the promotion of accusations against Verhoeven of promoting militarism and fascism. However, when creating a satire of something, you first of all advertise it. Especially when this satire is presented as in Starship Troopers.
I watched this film as a child when I was 8, now after the release of Helldivers 2 I remembered it and decided to watch it again, it’s a legendary film

It STILL boggles my mind how good those special effects were...
has better effects then the one released 11 years later
coolstream1 Practical effect hold up better than lazy heavy cgi fest.
Weren't the bugs CGI? They look incredible
There was a healthy mix of practical and CG effects. Amalgamated Dynamics worked on the practical effects and they hold up even better than the CG in my opinion. They have a channel here called StudioADI that has some great behind-the-scenes stuff from this movie and others.
Yep. And it lost the Oscar to Titanic, the film that took an Oscar in every realm it didn't deserve one. Freakin' TITANIC ?!!
All fans of this 90s classic are hereby summoned to Helldivers 2 on Playstation 5 or PC

I'll give them a taste of Democracy
Casual
Yep. and until Helldivers 2 became stashiptroopers the game we all played Earth Defece Force. EDF! EDF! tO PROTECT OUR MOTHER EARTH FROM ANY ALIEN ATTACK!
Hell Divers 2 brought me back. Just ordered the 4K blu ray for this movie.
LITERALLY i was trying to figure out why helldivers feels so familiar and i remembered this GEM of a movie.
My absolute favorite movie. Saw it in theaters when I was 14, I’m 37 now and I’ve easily seen it over 100 times.
I guess you are doing your part, then!
And yet... you still want to know more!
It's such an intelligent movie masquerading as a stupid schlocky American sci fi romance piece of garbage.
I absolutely love it. It is such a biting criticism on the romanticisation of fascism and, how Hollywood media manipulates the political ideology of its audience.
What makes it even better is that the source material earnestly endorses fascism, and Verhoeven who called it the worst book he'd ever read managed to turn such a work into absolute derision of everything it stood for.
Fucking bravo.
Same it was epic
Shut up commie.
A masterpiece. The young me back in the day honestly thought they had a huge brand new franchise, until I saw the sequels. As a kid I had no idea that It was considered a flop. I would actually pay to watch a reboot of the sequels, keep the original and launch from that.
That's kind of what they did with Invasion and Traitor of Mars
@@MrM0nKey79 omg the animated sequels are awesome. My only problem with Mars was the squad. They were far too green and really immature. But other then that both of them were awesome. Hoping for a 30th edition!
Funnily enough, it did turn into something of a franchise. The two direct-to-video sequels, two animated films, an animated series, and one or two games. It's not Star Trek, but it's still more than Independence Day has gotten so far.
Masterpiece in every way Paul is great director, love the cast so epic , just love it since see int on VHS back in the day!!!!
No one seemed to realize at the time that it was a parody. Odd considering the director also made Robo Cop, which was received positively and people KNEW IT WAS A PARODY.
The only good bug is a dead bug.
Ain't much to look at once u scrape em off your boot..

But what if they man spread when they die?
MEDIC!!!!!!!
Can’t believe this came out in 1997, Just watched this again today, this movie was so good and way ahead of its time, amazing cast and the special effects were amazing!!!!
Problem is that kids don't understand many things in film like political jokes and hidden things.
@@user-kz7mr1ln3flike fifth column clowns in youtube comments?
I always thought this was a run of the mill alien invasion movie so never cared to watch it but now when I have seen it I realize what a great movie it is. It is good individually as an action movie, romcom parody and political satire. the fact the movie works on all 3 layers is head spinning. Extra props for trolling critics back in 97.
Critcs today and then are nothing more than leeches, a timeless lesson
Read the book
@@keithwilliamson7508 Didn't Verhoeven hate the book because it is essentially all of the bravado but none of the satire?
@@Userius1 Yes, and the author Heinlein was, unfortunately, serious about his fascism (and his racism). He didn't write satire.
@@KevinKreger More power to Verhoeven for slipping it on it's side then.

Man this is the greatest action movie ever made! And the more I watch it the more I think the humans are the bad guys. The propaganda that keeps playing and i think the humans bombed rico's home state. For an excuse to go to war. Now I do not one bit beleive 911 was an inside job but I think they definitely watched starship troopers 1 to many times lol
I remember watching this trailer as a kid and getting massive goosebumps. After over 20 years... nothing has changed. This is the greatest movie ever made.
E
20 years old ..and it puts todays so called action blockbusters to shame.......
agreed
absolutely
Well they spent 100 million dollars on effects alone. Plus they had the talented guy who made special effects for the first Jurassic Park too
It would be pretty hard to Gillette this movie, too much action.
thats wrong yo! the entire budget of the movie was 100 million, take "suicide squard" as an examble.. It was on a 200 million budget.. And lets see where that is in 19 years! shall we?.
I saw this in the cinema when I was 15 and I was like YASSS. Saw it again when I was 30 and I was like oooooooh I get it.
I saw it when I was 15 too! With my dad. He told me it was US government funded trying to get people ready for an invasion of Iraq. I simply did not care.
@@nnneh1 sounds like he missed the mockery in the film too! A lot of people did, to be fair.
@@FureyinHD I know this comment is 1 years old. But why would this movie be seen as a mockery?
@@Icantfeeeeeelit its a mockery or satire of 'the war on terror' and patriotism.... However there are far more elements to it
@@alexanderrobertnewby it’s not. The director didn’t even read the book and his adaptation fit the theory of it being a satire so he ran with it 5 years after the movie came out.

Very underrated comedy “the mobile infantry made me the man I am today” and then he pushes his chair back and you see he’s a double amputee above the knees 😂
Satire and all aside, one thing this movie got right, that i haven seen any other war movie completely manage to do, is the exciting thrill you feel when you join the military. Getting introduced to camp and military life and meeting new exciting people you maybe wouldn't hang out with in civilian life, the confidence boost when you get pushed out of your comfort zone and master new challhenges, the whole thing feeling like an awesome summer camp for young adults. But tinged with the foreboding feeling of what is ahead.
That's what they're satirizing though...
@@creesmith2794 As i said, satire aside, they got that part of it right. At least from my own lived experience. Minus the whipping, Sargeants physically mangling recruits, the live fire exercize inside a populated camp and knives through hands.
As an "old" veteran. I still remember the time. Being pushed harder and further than I thought I could go. The camaraderie, the feeling of being part of something greater than yourself. They absolutely nailed it.
Now it's 23 years ago since I was deployed in yugoslavia, and I still miss my buddies. We saw and did things people today have a hard time understanding. I've taken the lessons with me to this day. I'm fortunate enough not to have ptsd. Many of my brothers are not that lucky.
@@Edimonde
It really sheds light on just how awful the brainwashing of the military system is.
It really isn't a point aside from fascism, it is an idea so crucial to the satirical themes.
The mindless soldier is the ultimate tool of fascists.
1997 was a great year for Cinema.
Titanic ruled
21 years and effects looks so much cooler then anything we’ve got today.
Honey hope you don't watch marvel
for a movie from the 90s it looks great, but saying it looks better than today's movies is a huge overstatement.
@@bran_rx Yeah. Don't really get that big fanboys. But this had amazing effects like you said.
The effects are good, but saying they’re better than today’s effects would objectively be wrong. Take off those nostalgia glasses man
@@Gee-bg2rv Yep crazy take indeed. This movie's effects doesn't compare to movies in the 2000s like LOTR and Transformers, let alone movies running today. Ridiculous. But for the 90s it looks absolutely bonkers.
I grabbed this off a second hand shelf a few years ago, hadnt seen it until then and man did i miss out on a gem. The effects alone, they still hold up to this day, its astonishing
How could anyone possibly give this film away?
Greatest movie ever made, in all honesty
i was there in theaters when this trailer first came out. i became part of the seat. some of the most powerful hype i had ever felt for a movie.
Aside from the unbelievable visual effects, still looking better than most movies coming out 26 years later, the plot and direction of the movie, with its funny and clever satire of modern society, mass media and militaristic propaganda... make this movie one of a kind. In interviews previous to the movie's release, Verhoeven described the movie as the ultimate depiction of the american dream, he literally described it as "Melrose Place in space"... Pure genius
Also denise Richard’s was super hot 🥵
I remember watching this trailer in a cinema in 97 and after about 10 seconds I knew it would be an all-time favorite of mine and I was RIGHT
For the Democracy 🦅🦅🦅
I had a young man today Tell me over the video game helldivers 2 that he'd never heard of starship troopers. It broke my heart. When I explain to him that it was a movie from 1997, he responded with he's not really into old movies.
That's disturbing.
Anyone here from Helldivers 2? Instantly reminded me of this golden age movie.
It reminds me of that and odsts from halo lol
The first brutal film I ever saw when I was 5 years old. Amazing memories on my brain
same bro, i didn't knowing the name, i was just searching gunfight with ants 😂
Finally I got the movie I used to watch when I was a kid, on axn or hbo i gues :)
Just finding this trailer after googling for this movie. I was five when I saw this and I was terrified back then. I still get a shiver looking at those creatures…
it's afraid..., IT'S AFRAID!!!!
It's alive!
They really marketed the film poorly. No wonder people didnt get it was satire.
what I like about this film is that you can interpret it either as a satire or as a serious drama
People who don't get that it's satire, don't understand satire in the first place.
Yep, this trailer markets it as a film closer to the dramatic style of Aliens. But while I love Aliens also, Starship Troopers really is the anti-Aliens. It's a film that tells you why it's messed up you'd want to become a Space Marine and the fascist interference that leads to that type of society.
KentAllard not just satire that’s why it rocks cause everyone can have their interpretation
I literally compared it to Aliens a minute ago without reading your comment
Who is here after that banger ED for Love is war season 3?
Was looking hard for that comment. That ed was legendary.
What’s ED?
@@josephparry ED is the ending credits played after an episode of a show, particularly its popular in anime. In this case the ED was pretty much a homage to Starship troopers from the anime love is war.
Great to see all the love for this movie in the comments. An absolute classic!!
It's funny that the trailer makes it look like a thrilling action sci-fi flick like Aliens completely omitting its heavy satire of militaristic regimes and use of propaganda
TBStudios91 I suspect they decided to market it to dumb-dumbs. More dollars from the braindead.
The trailer shows what it is a violent science fiction movie with a decent story not more and less if you thinking about politics watching this trailer or movie deeply suck to be you.
@@DP-jy2ge And why ? Because you don't like a science fiction action movie that makes everyone else liking it dumb people ? How can you be that dumg
@@renaudlemieux1 you are an arrogant prick just as your name suggests. And yep I’m a low brow hick and a druggie just as my name suggests.
@@renaudlemieux1 Haha, somebody missed the entire point of the movie.
You wouldn't know that it's a comedy by this trailer. Or that its a masterpiece.
It is certainly comedic.
The film is a satire of fascism and how Hollywood media is used to politically manipulate audiences to upholding American idealism
The scene where the instructor threw a knife into the hand and then asked if he was alright having a knife stuck in his was part of the novel as instruction on how to gently treatment fresh recruit and the novel was making satire that the military had become a socialist utopia of the young and dumb.
People wanted to join the military for political power and community than for the need of defending the country.
We can't save the next generation being exploited by the older generation using the younger generation as cannon fodder which is why the young are asked to join the military to be rescued from the dangers out there as part of social security.
@@maxotto9877 LOL Hollywood does not promote fascism. The mass entertainment media is one of the most subversive and liberal elements in this country

Starship Troopers deserves a proper sequel powered by Paul Verhoeven or anyone which can take over from him (Nolan ? Villeneuve ?).
