Double Duty

- Memorial Day weekend is known by many as the greatest weekend in motorsports. With the Monaco Grand Prix in the morning, the Indy 500 in the day, and the Coca-Cola 600 at night it is no wonder. F1, IndyCar, and NASCAR all have their time to shine. But for some drivers, they attempt the near impossible of racing in both IndyCar’s Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 (also known as the World 600). These are the drivers that did so.

A random fact: Tony is the first and only driver to finish the full 1100 miles. Other drivers who have attempted the double have finished at least a lap down.
James Braun he should have gotten some money from Burton smith.
Kurt busch came close, with only an equipment failure ending his bid
I like how you put NASCAR 2006 music
I think Gordon would have been a perfect fit to do this as well.
I couldn't agree more
What In Carnation? Agreed, in his youth he was offered a contract by the legendary Jackie Stewart to be an F1 development driver. Had he gone that route, he may have made it from the short tracks of Indiana to the streets of Monaco. I definitely think he and Stewart had the versatility to succeed in open wheel cars if they went that route (Stewart did with his IndyCar title, but we never got to see Gordon in those races)
Interestingly enough, Jeff Gordon was interested in IndyCar while growing up. He gave up on that because there weren't really any opportunities at the time. Then he got a chance to race in the Busch series, and the rest is history.
@Evan McCreary There are conflicting reports whether Jeff Gordon actually wanted to race Indycars at all. During a interview with ESPN back in 1989, a young Gordon told about his future plans: «I would really like going to NASCAR, i really, really enjoy NASCAR. And if i could be there in a couple of years, that’s Where i wanna to be.»
Also, Jeff’s stepdad was apparently an avid NASCAR fan during 70s & 80s.
I would love to see Kyle Larson do the double
NASCARFAN93100 well this didn’t age well
@@anonymoususer8591 Ain't that the truth :(
This aged like moldy cheese
@@NASCARFAN93100 Kyle Larson has got to be the most overhyped race car driver of the modern era.
I think kyle Larson is the only driver today who could try to do the double
It's a shame when it's not the driver who doesn't make it all 1,100 miles, but instead it's one of the engines.
I got the chance to meet Kurt Busch last Saturday prior to the All-Star race at a nearby Walmart.
I asked if since now that he's with Chip Ganassi if there were any talks if him (Kurt) doing the double again.
He smiled and replied with “Maybe, we'll see”.
Considering that I don't believe Kurt has much longer in his Cup career, I could totally see both Busch brothers attempting the double in 2020.
That aged well.
I could see Kurt doing it in 2021 cuz hes with Ganassi, but I dont think Kyle will be able to because of the Honda/Toyota thing
@@flyingpizza98 Kyle actually got approval from Toyota to be able to race with a Chevy team. So even though it's not going to happen this year, maybe next year they'll both be on the entry list.
Kyle Busch would be good at doing this I think. He has done double duty in a lot of races over his career in NASCAR in different series.
He would probably win both races
I wouldn't put it past Fernando Alonso to run the double
This legitimatly made me laugh!
It really kinda is
He would be absolutely clobbered in the 600.
@Auldin Lockridge you don't need to win to complete the double tho
@@DavidRSAT I certainly don`t think so, i think Alonso would have done decent if he gave it a shot. But it`s obvious that Alonso has no interest of racing in NASCAR.
I agree that Kyle Busch is gonna be the next one. I wouldn’t rule out Kyle Larson either. Also liked how you threw in a badass 4 wide pass by Dale Jr at the end. Good stuff dude 🤙🏻
DaleE988 Kyle Larson was actually gonna be an Indycar driver because he drove and still drives sprint cars on dirt.
Fernando Alonso, Kyle Busch, A.J. Allmendinger, or Austin Cindric
People can say what they want about Robby Gordon but for doing the double as much as he did proves he loves racing. Robbys is a racer and racers race. Damn good off-road driver too and his Stadium Super Trucks is awesome too watch.
Wasn't a fan of his much about the mid-2000's but watching him lose the 1999 Indy 500 is hard too watch.
combatking20 I have on tape , Robby Gordon running out of fuel in an Indy 500 and Kenny Barack got the win.
combatking20 because his team said he’s good on fuel and then tell him to save fuel with a few laps left
Met him at Daytona one year. Really nice guy.
a lot of nascar drivers don’t do the double because of the dangers in indy. I remember an interview with Jimmie Johnson where he said he’s had offers but his wife isn’t for it. also Almendinger also said he wasn’t racing open wheel after the Dan Wheldon crash
How about the other way around?
Cool that you used footage from the start of the 1964 Indy 500 in the beginning , possibly the darkest race behind 1955 Lemans
Tony is the man.
I think it's Kyle.... Larson. He's young and intriguing enough as to where the crossover would really be beneficial for not just team owner (Chip Ganassi) but for the sporting world at large.
Rest in Peace John Andretti
Is that Nascar '06 music I hear in the background?
Alex Bowman will run the Indianapolis 500 and 600-mile race at Charlotte just like Tim Richmond did the Indianapolis 500 in 1980 and 1981
And finish second both times
I think if anyone is going to realistically do it, it'd be one of the Kyles: Busch or Larson
Kurt could try again
Lombard's probably gonna be the next one to attempt
It would be interesting to see if Kyle Busch performs the double
May not win in his 1st try, but if he races the Indy 500 at least 5 times, he may be a contender
Oreo Man his brother Kurt has said about doing it with him. Imagine if they have to battle each other for the win in the 500... and then in the 600. That will be a funny dinner table the next day
Billy Noyes That would be pretty badass for the Busch brother’s history
love the nascar 06 total team control soundtrack lol
Some people call it "The Double" but I myself along with others would call it the "Memorial Day 1100" for those who are racing in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca Cola 600.
I see both Kyles doing the double sum day
Whoa! nascar 2006 team control music!
How about Larson, alex bowman, Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Chase Elliot or even last year's champ Joey Logano
TERPS FAN 22 Bowman, Johnson, Logano have never said they will do the double ever.
Larson, the Busch brothers, Kahne, have said they want the opportunity
Love to see Joey Logano do it!! I think Danica Patrick would’ve done it that would’ve been cool to.
I think that the Coke 600 should be moved to Memorial Day for a Monday night prime time race
That would actually be pretty cool
NASCAR do this only because they don`t want Indycar/the Indy 500 to seal headlights.
You should have like 10,000,000 sub tbh
Watch that Kyle Busch prediction age beautifully
It was 1992 when they put the lights in at Charlotte. 🧐😂👍🏻
I could see the Busch Brothers doing a double. Kurt has better chance since he's with Ganassi. But if Helio doesn't run next year in Indy, I could see Austin Cindric running a Penske car in both races.
Love the NASCAR 06 music
Imagine running in the Monaco Grand prix Indy 500 and coke 600 in one day
Tanner Luckenbaugh James hinchcliffe and Alonso have mentioned that
Wouldn't have nearly enough time to get to Indy on time, Charlotte would likely be cutting it too close as well. To have any chance to get there on time it would have to be a direct flight and they usually don't have them for Charlotte.
Kyle Larson has said that he wanted to do the Indy/Coke 600 Doubleheader, but he said that it needs to be under proper circumstances in order to do it.
Wonder what's that "proper circumstances" would be like.
@@mahiru20ten Certainly not what they are now.
this aged well
He's doing it this year
I think Larson's the best pick considering who he's driving for.. Chip could give him a solid car at Indy to run in and do potentially well. Kyle's the best pick in terms of matching Stewart's success.. Kurt deserved to do much better, his run was so damn fun to watch.
A year old video but I want to make this comments. even though he’s been struggling so far in 2021 with how Chase Elliot has really been putting himself out there with other types of racing with him entering the 2020 Snowball Derby, the Chili Bowl, and the Rolex 24 do yall think maybe sometime in the future the young ambassador for nascar might try the double?
I don't see why not. Personally, I would love to see Chase run the Indy 500 and Coke 600 on the same day. Other drivers I would like to see attempt the double are Kyle Larson, Ryan Blaney, and all of Penske's IndyCar drivers (most likely Josef Newgarden). Hailie Deegan is a bit of a stretch, but if she can pull it off, she would be the first female driver to attempt the double, and I'm all for that.
How about Scott Dixon?
Happymars Dixon is way to old.
I could see Ricky stenhouse doung the double
Kyle Larson announced he is doing the double!
Here’s another interesting question: Will anybody win both races in the double ever, and if so, who will it be?
That’s a great question. Personally if someone did I think it’d be a NASCAR driver to do it. It seems that more NASCAR drivers go over and perform well in Indycar than vice versa.
The Iceberg I would have to agree. Allmendinger, Patrick, Franchitti, ETC. didn’t run super well at NASCAR, but were stars at IndyCar. But Kurt Busch ran well at the Indy 500 in 2014 and is also one of the top drivers in NASCAR. Tony Stewart ran well at Indy and NASCAR as well.
@@frmnNnj patrick wasn't really a star in indycar., Nor did she perform well in Cup. Not saying she sucked, just wasn't really a star, she only won one fuel mileage race in Indy that I've heard is controversial due to one of the drivers letting her pass because they thought she was a lapped car.
i know it probably wouldn't have happened but can you imagine if he had won both races.. wed still be talking about it today
A lot of people are mentioning the NASCAR drivers they think should do it. What about the IndyCar drivers? Scott Dixon, Ed Carpenter, Alexander Rossi, Josef Newgarden, Marco Andretti? I’m sure Will Power would have the willpower.
Gotta agree with Kyle Busch, But I really would like to see Kyle Larson give it a shot for some reason.
I wonder is it possible to try and do Triple Duty? With Monaco, Indy, and Charlotte? It would have to be a really fast plane to get from Monaco to Indy and more than likely it would have to be a current F1 driver with how they do it
Lol..
The only driver that comes to mind in today's Nascar that could do it is Kyle Larson. Also, though not a same day double, I bet Christopher Bell would do well running Xfinity and then Indy the next day.
Any of the Penske cup drivers. I think castroneves is gonna be done after this years 500 so that will open up the #3
My boi Kyle Larson could double duty. And maybe Johnson could double duty cuz he wants to try Indy car
I could do it. No problem!
i would actually see a indy guy try nascar, Will Power manifested interest in racing in a 1.5 mile oval
Tony Stewart would come back just so he could do it again
He only wants to run Sprint cars.
Kyle and Kurt both running the 500 would be great.
as much as im not a rowdy fan im interested to see if he can wheel anything
Both Chip Ganssi Drivers are realistic and Will Power from the #12 Indycar Chevrolet of Team Penske has shown some interest in racing one or two races in NASCAR
James Davidson
I say either josef newgarden or kyle larson being that both their teams have both NASCAR teams and indycar teams
Schlomotion James hincliffe wants to do a Coca Cola 600
I realize this is 2 years old but today I think the clear driver to attempt both would be Kyle Larson
Kyle Larson is racing the Indy 500 today.
Maybe a Kyle Larson or Joey Logano or Brad Keselowski. I dont see JGR letting his drivers run it.
Joey Logano would be awesome
i highly doubt this would happen but id like to see jimmie johnson try it if not then id say larson
If I had anything like the money to do it, I would offer $5 million to anyone who completes all 1,100 miles that day. If they win both races, that number would go up to $50 million. Considering that only once has a driver even achieved the former goal, alternate universe rich me would feel pretty safe in not having to pay $50 million of my own money.
Johnson could have done it but he never chose to. He’s recently said he might wanna do an Indycar road course race but he’s never fully wanted to do the Indy 500
He raced Indy today!!!!
I think maybe Danica Patrick could do it since she has so much experience in both
LOL
Jimmie Johnson in 2020
Larson. He’s too talented not to give it a shot. Also you know who his car owner is so there’s that connection
Ky Busch, Larson, Johnson, or Keselowski. I can see Blaney wanting to do it in the future
Keselowski will be the next I have a feeling
Would love to see Jimmie Johnson pull off the double.
But he’s done with cup
I think Jimmie Johnson will perform the double.
He needs to get his act together in Cup. His last win was June 4th of 2017.
I think jimmie johnson will try
Old but I don't think it'll be Kyle Busch, Toyotas probably too nervous to venture into Indy car since their f1 try out was a flop
I think Kyle Busch will give it a try he’d probably be the most credible attempt since Tony. Kurt is good but he’s not on the same level as Baby brother and even he knows that. I think there’s a possibility that Larson attempts it since he’s pretty intent on staying with Ganassi so it’s always possible but Indy was never Larson’s passion so he has no reason to chase it like he did the Chili Bowl. Also would be pretty cool if William Byron/Christopher Bell gave it a go in a few years they’re quick in anything
I could see Kyle Larson trying the double
Larson easily. Chip would definitely give him the opportunity.
I think either Blaney, Logano, Keselowski or Larson
Kyle Busch, Kurt could do it again, Larson would be a fan favorite to try it out.
Jimmie Johnson I Hope
I think Larson will be the next one or maybe one of the penske drivers
Kyle Larson. He already drives for Ganassi
Kyle Larson or Kyle Busch
Jimmie Johnson
Kyle Bush
I think its going to be Kyle Larson lol 😂
Just busch of he can get a ride with ganassi
No all we need is for Mercedes to make a Time Travel/Teleportation machine. Lewis Hamilton to run and let's be honest win Monaco, teleport to Indy for the 500 driving for Mercedes, probably win that one too, and finally, fly down to Charlotte and win the 600, driving for, can you make a guess? That's right, Joe Gibbs Racing
Johnson
I think the next driver to attempt the double will be Fernando Alonso.
I’d like to see Kyle Larson try to pull it off
Kyle Busch will do it. Others would be Kyle Larson and probably Chase Elliott with the backing of NAPA.
If HMS can go to indy kyle busch might, hsve to talk with coach Gibbs about letting kyle busch try it if HMS dont go to indy car if i see him 1 day
I think Kyle Larson would be a prime candidate.
Kyle Busch or will power or brad keslowski
Jimmie would win it if he was in his prime
Kyle Larson or Paul Menard.
Think anyone could ever double F1@ Monaco and the Coke 600?
I think the jet lag from flying across the Atlantic Ocean would ruin any chances of that happening
Probably not since the start time for the Monaco race has moved back some from when it was run years ago.
Kyle Busch or Kyle Larson.
I think Kyle Larson will give it a shot
Kyle Larson or Alosno
I feel like Kurt could try it again, and if not for the Honda/Toyota thing I could see Kyle doing it too. Itd be pretty cool if the Busch brothers did the double in the same year. I also dont think itd be too far fetched to see Christopher Bell try it in a few years. I dont see any IndyCar drivers doing it because NASCAR drivers seem to do better in IndyCar than IndyCar drivers do in NASCAR (the exception being Smoke, but he's the only guy to have a championship in both so i consider him to be both)
Alonso ran a Honda engine at Indy while he was racing for Toyota in the WEC.
Kurt Busch did a great job back in 2014, but he had also planned to do the double for more than a year, and his first Indycar test happened during the summer of 2013. Kurt also did a road course test at Barber later that year, as well as an indy Lights test during the 2013/14 off season. So Kurt was prepared when he completed the double in 2014.
You claim that NASCAR drivers do better in Indycar than what Indycar drivers do in NASCAR. But how many NASCAR drivers have competed in Indycar? Take a look at Brad Ks or Jamie Macs Indycar tests... The main reason as to why we don`t see Indycar regulars trying the double, is simply because most if not all Indycar drivers doesn`t care about the 600.
I really want to see Kyle Busch do the double with the insane amount of talent that he has. Down the road Christopher Bell would be a good candidate as well.
Kyle Larson will be the next double duty
Kyle Larson!!! Lol
kyle Larson or kyle busch
