The Andretti Double: Indy and Charlotte 1994
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 тра 2019
- In 1993, John Andretti raced in IMSA, NHRA, IndyCar, and NASCAR in the same year. In 1994, he raced in the Indy 500 and World 600 on the same day. Auto racing had never seen anything like it.
Narrated by Brock Beard.
I don't think John got the respect that he deserved
He didn't.
He was a racer like Tony, Kyle Larson, etc who could drive anything
And what about Robby Gordon?
@@kg0173what about him?
Some good news for John, he's starting an experimental treatment for his cancer, and it's the one that he had hoped to be testing
nascarfan88ta but unfortunately the next update is not a good one. We lost John Andretti.
I cannot fathom one driver racing 1100 miles in a single day, let alone traveling between the two events, and all the preparation for both. Great video, thanks for posting!
He always reminded me of uncle Mario. Versatile and passionate about his racing. He lived to race. And we loved watching him. That is why he will always remain in our hearts and minds. RIP John.
Rest in Peace John. Thanks for entertaining us and for bringing awareness to your fight.
John Andretti was arguably the greatest ambassador of all time in motorsports. He raced just about anything and everything he could sit in.
Rest in peace Mr. Andretti.
Another great video! Love the Jeff/John Andretti & Rusty/Kenny Wallace comeback! Classic!!! Best wishes to John and props for all of your accomplishments! Indycar winner, NASCAR winner and a great ambassador for the sport as well as a great family man and human being!
This was back when I could tell you everyone’s stats in racing, every type of racing, back before the lawyers got involved.
While his "double" was covered by most racing rags at the time, his beating Budweiser King Kenny Bernstein was the big story. Imagine beating the fastest man in Top Fuel with not much more experience than a wink and a nod.
Unbelievable.
I was on Johns team when he raced in NASCAR. I was only on his team for one year in '96 in the KMart/Little Caesars car. Good times.
RIP John.
RIP John a true wheelman because of what you did & this double might not have gone your way but it will live on forever😭👏🎉💚
PLUS he was definitely a fantastic wheelman in so many ways for the all racing series he was in
Kenny: I've got Jeff Andretti here. What happened?
John: I don't know, Rusty.
John Andretti
1963-2020
R.I.P.
RIP. Much respect to your double dip this day.
Rest In Peace John 🏁
RIP John Andretti. Even though it wasn’t in the 500 I’m glad he got to drive into victory lane at Daytona one time in his career. Would’ve loved for him to do that same at Indy. I miss when racing was like this.
I remember when this happened. I was a racing nut back then. RIP John. You and 40 or so others were the drivers in the sport when I was huge into it.
John was an awesome person I got to meet him November of 94 when I was a kid and he was so friendly and was a great ambassador for motorsports all together was so sad when I heard of his passing such a great guy
It's my understanding that Dale Earnhardt lobbied to NASCAR (unsuccessfully) to allow John to keep his starting spot in the 600. NASCAR made him go to the back for missing the drivers meeting
A very underrated driver, but what a brilliant effort, I’m also staggered that he raced Top Fuel too
R.I.P John Andretti😔💔
Godspeed, John Andretti.
You have no idea how bad I was wanting Jeff Gordon to try this once.
Austin Blansett you and me both. He would have swept the field without an issue.
LRulesTheWorld I don’t think the Motorsports world would’ve known what to do with themselves.
Those sprint car drivers take a lot to NASCAR. Love watching both & have missed John Andretti.
McMurray and Larson too
So very gay that he didn’t
Thanks for post it's all coming back. Love to the Andretti family RIP John
Very well done
RIP John Andretti
I would have been really impressed if he had raced at Monte Carlo in the morning.
R.I.P. John Andretti
Just got the news about John today after watching this video the other night. R.I.P :/
He was a Master in motorsports Godspeed
It would be an honor for John's nephew, Marco Andretti, to run the double in 2021. I wish Marco would drive Richard Petty Motorsports' #44 entry
Don't recall seeing Marco in NASCAR, but I'd love it
Jonathan Guevarra was the day you were getting
John was a real Badass behind the wheel, and Kenny was a real good sport.
Always rooted for John in Nascar. Great video!
RIP John a true driver!
R.I.P John
Uncle Mario's accomplishments are a bit more impressive. Daytona 500 win, Indy 500 win, F1 championship, Pikes Peak champ, 4 time CART champ, USAC dirt champ,IROC champ,12 of Sebring, driver of the year in 3 different decades...........I won a go kart race once 😂
Some (including me) would argue that Mario is the best racer who ever lived.
How do you pronounce your surname, by the way?
@@TotoDG I agree that Mario is most likely the greatest ever. My surname is pronounced O-Donnelly.
@@TotoDG it's actually spelled Ó Donnghaile but my teachers in Canada messed it up so many times I chose their spelling for UA-cam.
That’s hilarious.
"Greatest" driver ever is next to impossible to say. But Mario had the most success across different series and platforms. Easily the most versatile. But John being the first to do the double was an amazing accomplishment. The racing world needed some good things after the previous year, and especially after how that May started. John gave us a something positive to think about.
This is why we're John Andretti fans... win loose or draw...
Rip John
Super guy. RIP
Do you know Tim Richmond ran the Indianapolis 500 in 1980 and 1981
He was one of the fastest cars in 1980, then had to buy his way into the race in 1981
nascarman History followed by Cale Yarborough drove Indianapolis 500 in 1971 and 72
freewillobjector Tim left IndyCar in the middle of 1980 crash destroy at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn Michigan Indy 400
John H. Tim Richmond moving to NASCAR in July of 1980 first Winston Cup Series debut at Pocono Raceway Long Pond Pennsylvania
Lol John called Kenny Rusty 😂😂😂
Cause Kenny called him Jeff. Had to rewatch that clip to understand. xD
RIP
I'm astonished anyone could even do it. I was exhausted after just four laps of NASCAR; the thought of doing three hours at Indy, quick ride in a private jet and helicopter, then another five hours of it at Charlotte... it just doesn't bear thinking about. Tough bastards, these people.
Great video!!
Talk about racing nostalgia..
Rest in peace John Andretti
I was there for in Charlotte that night. It was really cool seeing him come in on a helicopter. And Jeff Gordon gots his 1st win.
Nice footage~ Thanks!~
Rest in peace John.
The hidden series that John Andretti raced A-Mains was USAC. I don't know if he had World of Outlaws/ASCS Credits
John never made it to the top but he sure showed he could drive the wheels off anything. I miss the days of 4 Andretti’s at the track. He will be missed by all.
R.I.P John... ;(
Wait; NASCAR, Indy, *and* Top Fuel ? ! He has more than lived up to that great name.
I remember this
Great video! Subscribed.
this confirms it... John Andretti is the GOAT
He is in many hearts. RIP John
The only drivers to win in both IndyCar and NASCAR in post 1972 are AJ Foyt, Tony Stewart, Robby Gordon, Juan Pablo Montoya, AJ Allmendinger, and John. While drivers who won in IndyCar but couldn’t in NASCAR were legends like Dario Franchitti, and Sam Hornish, and underrated IndyCar stars Patrick Carpantier, Max Papis, and Danica Patrick.
Rip John Andretti
The 1994 coca cola 600 was Jeff Gordon 's first cup win
Are there more 1st wins at Charlotte? Remember Jeff's & Bobby L, Adam in ARCA(?). MATT.
We love you & your family John. RIP
@@pamela8329 , i'm sad he passed away
That 14 looked slick
#14 is slick.
8:40 "I don't know Rusty" lol
Donnie winning Charlotte, and then going top 5 at Indy is certainly nothing to sneeze at, either.
New video from s1ap next week: “The History of the Memorial Day Double”
Tony Stewart is the only driver to actually complete all 1000 miles
1100 miles but yeah
RIP John
Remember Ladies and Gentlemen, he won Adelaide Australia & The Daytona 500 , a true American Hero in Motorsports
John didn't win the Daytona 500. He did win the summer race at Daytona (then called the Pepsi 400, now known as the Coke Zero Sugar 400) in 1997, though.
I'd say the most successful of the few to attempt it was KBs attempt in 2014. I was shocked as to how well he ran at Indy. Didn't think he had it in him. Unfortunately I think more don't attempt it because it's just too damn hard. I wish more would though
Let's see how long it takes for that "other" nascar history guy to rip off this video
the tube wars!
Which one is that?
i didn't know Kurt Busch ran in Indy at all, neat
0:27 Who the hell lists top 10s in open wheel? lol
Sucks when John Andretti never had a chance in F1 he would replace cousins old team mate Senna in Williams.
Wooooooo
John Andretti, Tony Stewart, Robby Gordon, Kurt Busch
one of those is not like the other!!
jabber1990 Kurt Busch had no previous top tier open wheel experience like the other 3, so he rightfully concentrated efforts on Indy and he did extremely well
Do a video on the 1994 season of Ernie Irvan. I know it ended terrible in practice at Michigan but didn’t he still finish something like 11th in points?
I’d love to see RCR or Hendrick give Jimmie a ride for the 600 to see if he could pull it off 👀
So, John Andretti was Fernando Alonso before Fernando Alonso?
Nah he was Robby Gordon before Robby attempted it a few years later, and then Tony Stewart.....Then Alonso
Alonso is a yoke
We still need to see Alonso in to fuel dragsters
Fernando Alonso for the triple 2023?
Jimmie Johnson is the last driver to do the double. He did it in 2023.
Someone should do Indy fly the plane themselves and race Charlotte.
Kyle Larson or Kyle Busch are probably the most likely to do the double next year if anyone did it
8:40 Did he just call Kenny Wallace Rusty by mistake haha? Must have been tired!
It was a burn to Kenny for calling him Jeff Andretti
@@t-royh8877 Ohh I understand now, John was getting his own back! Thanks for clearing that up for me!
I was about to note this in a separate post but you mentioned it before I did! Shows the sense of humor by both gentlemen.
Kyle Bush to become first driver to win the Triple Crown all on the same day.....Monaco Grand Prix, Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600
In your flipping dreams
No Chance In Hell
Now the little baby drivers can't go 400 miles without taking multiple stage breaks...weak.
DCTib that’s not a driver thing, that’s purely a NASCAR invention to make races more “interesting”... but I guarantee you if they got rid of the stages all the drivers would handle it easily.
Psychlops 924 i wont even watch or support nascar anymore. Its a joke. Ill support my local dirt tracks before I have the main cup league droning on my tv.
It wasn't the drivers that did that. It was Nascar. You obviously don't know anything about Nascar or you'd know that
What happens if you won both? Has anyone ever accomplished that.
Tony Stewart achieved the best result, but the king of Charlotte/Indy double was Robby Gordon.
Danica had the opportunity to be the first woman to run both in the same day but didn't do it.
Cheers to Danica! That means approx. 42 other drivers didn't that day either.
RIP John
Danica did Daytona 500 and Indy 500 in the same year. Not many have.
.
And now Larson is next.
RIP
