Old blankets, fleece throws and towels of all sizes are very appreciated by local animal shelters! I am so glad the yellow pineapple stayed, I just love that thing.

Storage bins that are no longer needed, especially the larger ones, are very useful to animal shelters. And I would suggest donating them there

We have soooo many cables! Thankfully, my son loves to organize and has each one in a plastic bag labeled for what it is and what it's for. If we have several of the same type and they are cables we don't need a lot of, he tosses them. Then, they sit in a fabric box looking pretty on a shelf. Lol it's nice to know where all cables are

I cut smaller pieces from old big towels n keep a few handy for quick clean n throw .. specially with pets n kids around. Saves lots of paper towels n trees .

Old towels are good to have around. Use them as rags to clean really gross things or something hubby can wipe grease off his hands after working on the car or lawn mower, etc.

Great suggestions... I love your videos! I just moved and yes, I got rid of a lot of stuff. My donation place was getting so happy to see me again. I got rid of everything from furniture to kitchen things, to clothing, to old decor, you name it. I went through my linens and took 10 full garbage bags of towels and bedding that we were not going to use, and even though I have more closet space in this apartment, I vow to be more ruthless with the things I bring into this space. And confession: I still have three boxes full of papers that I was too much in a hurry to move to go through so I just stuffed them in boxes, it is now this weekend project. I also have too many cables that I don't even remember what they were for. Out they go!

About 12 years ago I started “Free Box Friday”. I get a box, whether it’s something I received in the mail, or I get a wine or cigarette box from the local gas station, and I just fill it up. I put it on the curb for neighbors or passers by to grab on, you guessed it, Friday. In a “perfect world” whomever grabs it would get what they want, and give the remnants to someone else but, I’m sure they have the “courage” to throw it away. I just can’t. I’m too much of a _it’s too good to just throw away, I could use it later_ kind of person to do that. I try to do it every month. It can get overwhelming if the weather isn’t cooperating and I can’t curb it. 😂

      6/11/19....WHAT A GREAT IDEA.
I live in central FL---in a 55+ restricted subdivision of only adults....Neighbors just put whatever they don't want/have replaced/are tired of dusting @ the curb the evening before trash/
      recycle day.
We all walk/drive by & get to "pick & choose" what we want---or we bring into our homes to use or donate or give to somebody we know.
I got cute 2 chair + glass top table "ice cream parlor" set that came from house next door around the corner---It now "lives" in my screened porch room @ my kitchen entry door! 😅

I began labeling my cables attach a piece of tape with what it goes to on each cable and adapter or big chunky plug. Also I wrap all my wires when I’m not using them even my phone charging wires. Also one really big container to fit them all in one place or a little set of drawers would help keep them all in one place.

6/11/19....I use beautiful thick BEACH TOWELS b/c I reguse to pay for expensive bath sheets/oversized towels.
So I buy end if season/clearance priced MATCHING bath towels---6 to 8 each fall---from expensive bath/home stores.
THEN I donate the gently used last yr beach towels to my groomer for her to use on the larger dogs that she grooms.
THEN I go thru her older towels/declutter by donating more used but still nice towels from her groom shop to the pet shelter whete we both have rescued our "companions".
Older/over used/smaller towels we give to her hubby for his auto repair business.
I also go to better area of town in late Jan/early Feb & visit the GoodWill store....They ALWAYS have nice/new with tags/barely used towels/hand towels/wash cloths/bath mats/kids' beach towels in all colors/sizes. I buy them on "senior day" & donate to the local rescue shelter & they are immediately put into their "system" for the animals waiting for their "furever homes"! 🐶🐱😳

About glasses, when I moved out of my parents house last year, I moved in with my boyfriend, an aunt gave a set of 18 glasses. We all usually dread her gifts because they are always terrible, but this time it has turned out to be practical. They are all the same, so if you break them is no biggie.

Old stuffed animals (give it a few years! You’ll have this collection!) we get tons of stuffed animals and the boys never ever play with them...so I’m donating them! They take up so much room and make clutter.

Hello! Ever since I found your videos - I’ve been watching and listening like there’s no tomorrow! Soooo much of your advice and methods mirror what I’ve done for more than 50 years when as a teen I was responsible for cleaning my family home to help my mom, and then through the years raising my own family.
The “kids” are in their late 30’s early 40’s and WOW! Your advice for “parents storing the adult kids stuff” really hit home! If you could devote an entire session to JUST THAT! you would serve your viewers very well (at least the ones in the 60+ group who’s adult spring-offs have moved out!
One issue that comes up is that our kids are not living in the same square footage - so much as they might want to keep things, they have no place to store (and storage facilities are costly over time)
    Suggestions?
Thanks again for the great motivation and expert advice.

I've done major decluttering in 2020-2021. I am still getting rid of things. I took 30 boxes of clothing, home decor, office and art supplies to a thrift store in 2021. I have another 2 boxes that are ready to go, and I've started a third.
One thing that I refuse to let go of are my CDs and DVDs. I enjoy my collections of music and films, and want to be able to easily access them. I'm trying to spend less time online.
By the way, I love the yellow pineapple!

Don't know if anyone has suggested this yet, but if you have old cloths, towels, blankets, bed pillows, or plastic or metal bowls, you should think about donating them to animal shelters. They can even use those storage bins to hold dry animal food. They really appreciate all the help and supplies they can get.

I've always been terrible with holding on to the most random items for sentimental reasons. Finally went through my sentimental items at the beginning of this year. I am terrible for keeping things "just in case something happens to someone". Well I got rid of some clothes and two of the items were shirts I had that my brother left at my house (I live in Illinois and him in Texas) well a month or so later my brother was murdered. Lets just say that my Sentimental Items will eventually be out of control. I had those shirts for years.

We now have way more stuff.. It's easier to move with less things. I only had kid, so his stuff wasn't an issue. All but 2 moves was with movers. Even though, I found I'm organized and not a lot of "stuff" unpacking isn't daunting. Also make sure things are clean before they are packed. Don't need to move dust to another state. We are moving in a couple years when he retires from his 2nd career. We want to downsize. This move no kid. So we plan on donating a lot and selling other things. Fresh start.

I am in the process of unpacking my house. Incredible how much we have! It is overwhelming. Have boxes in the basement and trying to figure out what is what!

    10 things to toss outline:
    1. Candles.
If you have a candle that you dont like the smell like the jar. you can freeze the candle and pop it out.
    2. Mix matched glass cups or plates without a set. (Donate them)
    3. Storage bins. (A comment below says to take then to animal shelter)
    4. Sentimental stuff.
    5. Cables and wires. (I'm sure chargers that dont work and old TV wires)
    6. Kids things that arnt needed.
    7. Kitchen stuff. (Pantry stuff) (spices, old coffee, canned food)
    8. Furniture and decor (things that dont match the theme anymore)
    9. Files and papers. Old and outdated or expired warranties or just not needed)
    10. Linens. (Towels and cloths)

We moved house in July. I had boxed up all the decor items because I liked them so much - of course I did; that's why I bought them. But they just don't go in our new house. They are unboxed and sitting on shelves in the garage (we have masses of room in the garage - not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing). I keep seeing them and I feel guilty because they are sitting around, unloved but I can't bring myself to get rid of them even though I KNOW they won't find a home in our new place. 😢

The cable box!!! That was a nightmare when we moved into our home a couple of years ago!! Thankfully my husband kept only what was needed! Whew!! I’m a purger and a clean freak, so I TRY to go through things every few months and get rid of anything unnecessary! We have a huge walk in closet and I just purged the crap out of it!!! Lol

I’m in the process of getting rid of a lot of stuff before I move in a couple of months. My house was so cluttered that I knew I had to get rid of a lot of stuff so I’m not packing it and bringing it with me to the new place. I love your videos. I have a huge army duffel bag filled with cables that I just need to get rid of.

My dad actually has a whole bunch of extra cables, which to Chad's credit of keeping old cables, has meant when I moved out to college and my own place I didn't have to buy really any new ones. However he does have basically an Alex 5-drawer set of drawers in our basement where he widely winds up all of our old cables in about 2 or 3 drawers, that way they are well stored out of the way but aren't all tangled up :)

Hey Melissa, I saw 'garam masala' in your spice rack! Do you use it often? Do you like it? Coz we Indians are fond of using it in our cooking. :)
    Also, hello from India! :D
I am a huge follower of you and Chad, not only of the 'Clean my space' space but also with regards to your day-to-day life...your decision making, relationship with each other, way of living, etc etc.
Huge love to all three of you!
