The British helped a group of African Americans and Jamaicans escape slavery and half stayed in Nova Scotia, Canada and the other half was dropped off in Sierra Leone. Together they hand built a town and named it Freetown (town for free people) . And renamed themselves the krio tribe .

You have 97.5% African, that is beautiful. At one point, I was beginning to think we had the same percentage at 96.2% but then 1.3 North African showed up🙃 Good to see my people still have pure blood family...
Australian - I did Ancestry and found my DNA was 87% someone I had never heard of. I found out Ancestry had found a hidden secret, I had to find on my 83rd birthday (Australia). Big shock! John Young

I would suggest you take another DNA test. I also took a MyHeritageDNA test and got similar results. I got 47% Nigerian, 22% Sierra Leonean, 8.6 Kenyan, 3.7 North African. But when I took a AncestryDNA test, I got 45% Nigerian, 21% Cameroon/Congo, 16% Benin & Togo. I think MyHeritageDNA might not be as reliable. My mother is from Haiti & my father is black American
Oh. Interesting. I did another one and got similar results to the first, but it picked up South African (Khoisan), Native American, and some other. It made more sense because my great-grandfather is Native American. I also have epicanthal folds, which is characteristic of people of Khoisan descent).

If you study Jamaican history, you would know that Jamaicans are not as mixed as many people think. I wouldn't be surprised if a great number of Jamaicans are not one hundred percent African. When slavery was abolished, there was large percentage of people on the island that were born in Africa, and the white population in Jamaica was very small in comparison to the African. And back then not many non blacks marry black people. Some of the men would have children with the black women, but they wouldn't marry them. I wish Jamaicans would spend time doing proper research into the history of the Africans in Jamaica. Find out where in Africa our ancestors came from, and where on the island the various groups settled, and who were the slaveowners. There is too much ignorance among us.. We really don't know who we are.... Trust me, many of us are not as mixed as we think...

Things like the various maroon settlements, and it being taboo for Europeans to have a sexual relationship with people of African heritage. I am not saying that you will find a lot of black people with 100% African DNA. It more like that the majority of the people will only have 2-3% of European DNA
Myheritage keeps putting congo cameroon dna as kenya as there bantu people and related.I am nigerian and they claimed l am 22 percent kenya which is because they don't have enough region breakdown in Africa. I went to another dna couple and Kenyan drop to 2 percent and cameroon and congo jumped to 40 cent.Kenyan more likely bantu cameroon ,Gabon congo ,Angola, south africa .As there all Bantu people

Great but Unusual results for a Jamaican eg the Kenyan and Sierra Leone 🇸🇱…. Most likely one of your parents is direct from Africa recently and moved to Jamaica…🇯🇲 as most Jamaicans don’t have Sierra Leone 🇸🇱 or Kenya as a result… a lot of East Africans have west African dna but not vice Verda….but most Jamaicans are in the 90s of African decent 🥳…. There are also quite a lot of near 100%ers in Jamaica 🇯🇲 too… you could run your raw dna 🧬 through gedmatch to get a more accurate breakdown of your dna tribes for each region….And possibly do another video
I think something is wrong with my DNA results from myheritage tho. It might be accurate to some extent. I actually picked up South African ancestry after that test when I uploaded it to something else. I think I have Khoisan DNA too. It also shows in my facial features. E.g. I have epicanthal folds. I think the close Kenyan heritage is a parent of my dad's mom. None of my parents or grandparents are directly from Kenya. My patriarchal lineage is interesting tho. We don't go very far back in Jamaica (both my dad's matriarchal and patriarchal lineage). We have a VERY uncommon surname, which originated in Scotland. Due to that, we know that everyone in the world with my surname currently is possibly related. My dad's mom's side of family is possibly Kenyan. We might be some of the few Kenyans in Jamaica. They have much darker skin than those from Nigerian decent, for example, and larger foreheads. This isn't intended to sound pejorative, btw. It's just factually common traits found amongst certain groups of Kenyans, or East Africans. I love my forehead too. I think it's cute. 😌 Re Sierra Leonean... My grandmother is a Maroon. The Maroons in Jamaica are somewhat "pure blood", so they maintain most of their traits, as most haven't interbred with other ethnicities. There are some Sierra Leonean Runaway slaves that became the Maroons in Jamaica. They live in the mountains. One of her close ancestors, I believe, was directly from Sierra Leone. Interestingly, my grandmother is part Native American. Her grandfather was an "Injun." She thought he was Chinese tho. 💀 In those times, the Jamaicans thought the Asian-looking people from our side of the world were Chinese. That’s what she said he told her people called them in their time. We had a Native American group in Jamaica whom they claimed were all killed off, but many hid in the mountains. It seems some of these interbred with the Maroons. Really not sure how it happened. I, however, didn't pick up those genes. My grandmother however had strong West Indian features and had very long black, curly hair in her youth. She also had high cheekbones and a chiseled face. I also don't look much like my mom or my mom's side of family (including the grandma I just mentioned.) Many people aren't able to tell she is my mom. E.g. she has strong Middle Eastern features and a lighter complexion, though she mostly looks Nigerian. She said her dad was white, but based on my results, I highly doubt he was. He was probably partially North African or Middle Eastern. My family members always point it out, too. That I don't look much like them. Especially my eyes. I have the largest eyes in my immediate family. My mom and grandmother have monolid. I got more features from my dad's side of family.
I would love to explore more, especially since I think I am able to pinpoint some of these. I study ethnicity and history in this regard on a deep level. I definitely intend to take other tests for confirmations. I also would like to know specific tribes and ethnic groups that my ancestors were from. I uploaded my results to myancestry.com and it attempted to breakdown my results further, even showing haplogroups, but I am not certain how accurate it is. Also based on my ancestry.com, I'd belong to Yoruba mostly. It also picked up that my North African DNA is actually Egyptian. It picked up Bantu and Khoisan too, and picked up some Mexican DNA (this would kinda make sense if my grandmother is Native American).
@@eimikiyomiyes I agree I don’t so much trust MyHeritage Dna 🧬 it’s very basic and doesn’t fully breakdown the dna results accurately ancestry dna has the largest database….I think ancestry is much better as MyHeritage also tends to generalise and just throw in information when they don’t know what else to do… my mothers side of the family are maroon too from Portland and St Thomas… and we were told by the family that our surname was Syrian👀 and Scottish on my dads side…there was also an assumption that we had Chinese as my mothers side of the family look very oriental but are dark skinned … and petite with kings hair that ranges from thick and curly etc when I did my ancestry dna and my mothers too there was no Syrian and no oriental… no Asian, the orientals features in a lot of Jamaicans I now know is from Benin and Togo… the Syrian surname depending on how it’s spelt was actually Scottish..👀🥴 but I have no Scottish dna only Welsh (Celtic) and Western European…. My cousins wife has the prominent forehead you mention which is a common trait in east Africa eg the Kenyans but remember there are many tribes In west Africa that also have the prominent forehead…. Also a prominent forehead is common with those who are sickle cell carriers etc… as my cousins wife is…My grandmothers family came from maroon town and they used to visit from maroon town from time to time back in the day…if your grandmother was part native it would have shown up in your dna 🧬 as well… there were a lot of things said in Jamaican families that may have been incorrect… she could have been mixed with native Mexican or Syrian which is from the region you got as Syrians are known to be in Jamaica… the Mexican dna could be Mayan or Aztec native dna… as Taino are found in Panama 🇵🇦 too not Mexico your North African is Amazigh they are considered to be the original inhabitants of the Maghreb eg Algerian or Moroccan or Tunisian …. There’s only one Amazigh tribe found in Egypt if your result says North African otherwise it’s most likely Arab…. Which explains your Middle East result ….That could be where your grandmother gets her looks from either the Mexican or the Middle East…most Nigerians are dark skinned. Also you will find that a lot of Kenyans have Sierra Leone dna too… i was surprised as my son also had Baltic states 😂😂😂 I’m still baffled as to how 🥴 have you figures that out ? I have not seen another Jamaican with Baltic states 😂😂😂 that is actually Russian dna… all Russians are originally from the Baltic states region… but it could be from my mother as she has German and Swedish dna too…. 👀😂😂… I think ancestry is more accurate as I have also found family members on there eg a second cousin… I just find this whole dna 🧬 saga very fascinating … also watching the ancestry of different cultures…. On ancestry they have something called the chromosome painter where it shows you where on your chromosomes you inherited your dna eg your Amazigh or your Kenyan and which parent you inherit that dna from… but gedmatch is great and more in depth…. With the native Taino dna very few Jamaicans have Taino dna because the Taino were shipped off Jamaica or fled to DR or Perto Rico where there are the population has at least 30-50% dna… sometimes people think they have native Taino dna when it’s actually European dna or from the Arabs eg Syrians who live in Jamaica. Many mixed people were mistaken for Taino….There’s a lot to unpack in these dna tests and it’s an ongoing process….
@@eimikiyomigedmatch will help with the tribes I wouldn’t waste time and money on other tests as there are free search engines for that … what percentage did you get for the Mexican ? Does it give you a community location eg Jamaica etc? 23andme gives people their haplogroup as part of the test via your matrilineal line… are your precentagea still much or less the same with the ancestry results or are there any changes in location of inheritance eg did your still get Kenyan or Sierra Leone? Will you do a video on the ancestry results ? My Nigerian shows that I’m Igbo but we must remember that Nigeria is a new name place as it was part of Dahomey and Benin empires before colonisation….
@@eimikiyomi Your last name does not indicate whether you have Euro ancestry. Blk ppl get their name from the plant owner, it is not an indicator of whether someone is mixed with Euro. Your family may have been a liberated African. These were African ppl who arrived after slay was abolished and were indentured and not slays.
I believe so. The Robes in Jamaica came here recently and it's a very uncommon name here, but we have close link to Scotland. One of my great great grandparents were probably Scottish.

Pretty rare for Jamaicans to be above 95% african in stats, from research. Your more fully african than most Jamaicans
Right. I think from my patriarchal lineage, I have close pure African ancestry, so I got a good percentage of the DNA.

I have not seen another Jamaican with Baltic states 😂😂😂 that is actually Russian dna… all Russians are originally from the Baltic states region… but it could be from my mother as she has German and Swedish dna too…. 👀😂😂… I think ancestry is more accurate as I have also found family members on there eg a second cousin… I just find this whole dna 🧬 saga very fascinating … also watching the ancestry of different cultures…. On ancestry they have something called the chromosome painter where it shows you where on your chromosomes you inherited your dna eg your Amazigh or your Kenyan and which parent you inherit that dna from… but gedmatch is great and more in depth….
With the native Taino dna very few Jamaicans have Taino dna because the Taino were shipped off Jamaica or fled to DR or Perto Rico where there are the population has at least 30-50% dna… sometimes people think they have native Taino dna when it’s actually European dna or from the Arabs eg Syrians who live in Jamaica. Many mixed people were mistaken for Taino….There’s a lot to unpack in these dna tests and it’s an ongoing process….
@@eimikiyomigedmatch will help with the tribes I wouldn’t waste time and money on other tests as there are free search engines for that … what percentage did you get for the Mexican ? Does it give you a community location eg Jamaica etc? 23andme gives people their haplogroup as part of the test via your matrilineal line… are your precentagea still much or less the same with the ancestry results or are there any changes in location of inheritance eg did your still get Kenyan or Sierra Leone? Will you do a video on the ancestry results ? My Nigerian shows that I’m Igbo but we must remember that Nigeria is a new name place as it was part of Dahomey and Benin empires before colonisation….

Your family may have been a liberated African. These were African ppl who arrived after slay was abolished and were indentured and not slays.

I was thinking - I did MyHeritage too, and it was showing me similar results. A little suspicious. I will be doing Ancestry as well for comparison.

I believe so. The Robes in Jamaica came here recently and it's a very uncommon name here, but we have close link to Scotland. One of my great great grandparents were probably Scottish.

Also, a slay owner didn’t have to own land. Many owned slays and would rent them out. That could of been the case with her family.
