    Thank you for posting this video. The santur is played in many countries, from India to Persia and from there to Greece and Romania....and in America. It has a very interesting travel history! In itself a beautiful tale! Its echo fills the universe.

      It was known as shat tantri veens
      Which vecame santoor
      In amcient natya texts of india it was ready there
      So persian got this from india

    I got a tuning recipe that gives all sharps & flats on right side and all the naturals on the left. I can't imagine playing most of the notes in the melody with my left hand! Can I get any advice? Thank You!

    Thank u so much for this.. Although I understand u are using English terms for everyone to be able to understand, we would get a better flavour if u told us the real names ...such as for "wooden strikers"

    Santour is
    Iranian (Persian) instrument not Indian

      Yes is originated from Persia but travelled the world, all the instruments in history travelled the world, like some Persian instruments like the Ney(the oldest examples comes from egypt) or even the tambour or Setar comes from ancient Sumerian gish-gu-di and also the ancient Egypt Nefer, so every instruments comes from other culture but with time it adapted to the territory and traditions of the place, and that makes music great because it's free to travel and create beyond cultures 😁

      @@tomasparra720 TAR means string in persian, all instruments with strings are originally from iran. Do some research and please do not rewrite the history

    I was just tasked with being in charge of finding and buying an Santur. I live in Texas. I didn’t happen to find any local, but there are 102 on eBay from $300-$3000.
    Since I know nothing about them, what I’d difference between Indian and Persian santur/Santoor? Is there any place in america that I can buy them? What should one pay for them?

    For your kind information santoor is an Iraqi instrument not indian.

      Are you serious? Santoor is an ancient iranian instrument. All instruments with strings are originally from iran, TAR means string in persian

      Dhira dhira: I generally play the first stroke with right striker; strokes that follow are equally distributed between left striker and right striker.

I'm gonna plan a trip to india as soon as this covid-19 situation is solved. How does it work in india are there santoor master makers and how much does a good santoor costs?

      @@Nikhil_Nerlekar here in iran santoors and other classical instruments as kamanche , tar ,setar, tanbour can cost a lot and the masters who build them are very famous and they're treated with a lot of respect
