Dr Yakoob Ahmed is an Ottoman historian. He did a series of episodes on Thinking Muslim about the Ottomans, and some things he says challenge the orientalist discourse of decline of the ottoman empire. He says the Ottomans had good reasons for not embracing the industrial revolution wholeheartedly - they were concerned about the societal effects of the industrial revolution. They were trying to find a way to embrace the technology of the industrial revolution without the massive societal ills which the west was facing
And one week ago Europe newspaper shows Germany as "Sick man of Europe" due to its unstable economy,
I really don't understand how some youth can think buliding machinery and rapid industrialization is "Discouraged" by culture and religion. Reason why wealth of nation get collapsed is because of lack of innovation.
Turkey had been expanding and then later faced opposition, it's whole focus was to stop territorial decline, to stop territorial decline spending on military was Encouraged.
Western europe didn't fund these innovation based on their wealth, But wealth required by *genocidal colonization* of America, *enslavement* of Africa and *forced trade colonization* with India ans China...
Nothing was ever superior about their culture that helped them..
For example Britain
1. They first traded with The richest and most powerful nation Mughal India and China,
2. Then Innovated to pace up trade,
3. Then got rich, Then Innovated to conduct conquest of India, Failed miserably,
4. started "Divide and rule diplomacy" by funding domestic enemy and making many smaller powers to defeat a one mega power,
5. later gain partial control over land and complete control over tax.
Till the last day, Britain didn't control all of India and China, They control roughly half land, they controlled the one sided trade and recived taxes to further fund industrialization....
That is true - strong economy, technology, industry, infrastructure etc is very important to strengthen security

Spot on! It's about to happen in Malaysia as well. We thought 'secularizing' and reforming the system would change our nation's fate. For that reason we voted 'progressive' party to take over administration. But now not a single thing was done. They simply rebrand the old strategies.
We all have to admit all these 'idealist, reformist & liberalisation' is just BS.
PH was always going to fail. They are probably worse than BN. They try to sell you the moon, and always, fall short. I think PM Mahathir was the only guy that struck a good balance between nationalism and Islamism. And moreso, he was an ideas man that got things going. He's contributed more to the country than any of his critics have, combined. Memang disahkan, PM Mahathir adalah Bapa pembagunan/pemodenan negara Malaysiaku.

If it was as successful as you imply, the economy would reflect that, the lira's current value is 10 times less than what it was 10 years ago. Erdogan has made numerous questionable economic and political decisions. He even backed down from his stance "Interest rates are Riba" and decided to hire a central bank governor who is pro-interest rates hikes. He even allowed trading with Israel. Hence i don't get how he is seen as Islamic.

Just to note about the term ‘Türkiye’: Of course, it was meant to refer to the Ottoman Empire and modern-day Turkey/Turkiye. However, informally, the area was also referenced as Turkiye because many thought of the inhabitants as Turks, hence referring to the country as ‘Türkiye,’ even before it was a republic. For example, see a French magazine caricature of Sultan Abdulhamid from 1908, which refers to the area as ‘Turquie’: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Le_Petit_Journal_Balkan_Crisis_%281908%29.jpg
Serbs in Balkan even today call Muslims in those regions as Turks.

Excellent point, that reminds me of the story of the one first students sent by the Egyptian kingdom to France to transfer knowledge. He came back after years and started women movement organization and started advocating against hijab.

But a lot of the economical progress happened due to the leadership of Abdullah Gul, many people dont know about him he is very underated.

The term was coined by Tsar of Russia (Nicholas) before the Crimean war. Tsar was overconfident to crush Ottoman and take over it. However, Crimean war turned out to be a disaster for Russia due to French/Britain assisting Ottomans. France/Britain didn't want Russia become more powerful. Indeed, Ottomans fell behind massively, but so did Spain and Italy missed Industrial revolution and didn't industrialize until almost WW2.
As a Turk, secular order has never suited Turkey. If you talk to the public, they will tell you what an unfair system it is. We want to be governed by sharia, inshallah, the problem has never been our religious life or lifestyle.
Ottoman Empire had huge burden of loans.though sultan Abdul Hamid gave million of dollars.

When they were called "the sick man of the bosporus", they weren't actually turkey. It was still the ottoman empire that struggled at its end times because they were leaving more and more of their values that made them so great at the first place, like their full implementation of Islam.
Turkey is the result of the separation of state and Islam by aiming to be more like the west which led to the downfall of our Ummah in general.
So to be successful the solution would be to grow a backbone and to know our values by ruling 100% with Islam proudly.
May Allah guide us und give us strength.

But why is that? Was it the masses that took to imitating the non-Muslim lifestyles on their own? Did they not want to modernize their technology or was it too difficult ?
@@hoopoe9629because that time europe was getting wealthier and prosperous and the people lived in the Ottoman caliphate were struggling to how to hold their religion properly at the same time wants a happy life. So they imitate European values by replacing their own values. The outcome result was very disastrous.

It's actually one of the few in the Muslim world that takes in Muslim refugees.
Pictures are haram though!!!!! The hadiths state that whoever has pictures on the walls then angels wont enter that house. If there are pictures around your house and they serve no purpose then it is shirk. Having unnecessary and purposeless pictures around the place is shirk.
