Median family income in USA is about 60K, just enough to live a lower middle class life in expensive regions and slightly better living in other, which are not conducive to foreigners usually. Most Indian professionals make 80-150k, just good enough for middle class std. There are two calculations: 1. Going back to India? Save like crazy; or 2. Not? Save like crazy crazy & better get a job for the spouse if married. Keep in mind: Most are NOT going back. Better plan & live accordingly. First thing to do - stop converting $ to Rs. until you actually go back to India for good.
