Take this with a pinch of salt but, thanks to this lecture, I just did an N=1 experiment that suggests that niacin may help with my post COVID exercise intolerance.
For more than 10 years, under medical supervision, I've been taking 2000 mg of MainPointe pharmaceuticals Slo-Niacin to help control Atherosclerosis. I've taken this in the evenings before bed so that I'm asleep during any flushing.
After hearing about the impact of Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) on correcting exercise intolerance in mice engineered to have mitochondrial disease, I've switched my niacin dose to the mornings, and so far it seems to make a pretty big difference. I don't have to push myself to exercise nearly as much. I still don't know if my exercise adaptation has returned to pre-COVID levels. That will take some time as I want to ramp up my exercise level gradually.
Thanks for the great lecture 👍

14000 steps per day is an effective NAD+ booster even in the elderly.

Any thoughts about sub-lingual NADH lozenges which are available ? Would these be preferable to oral NADH, NMN or NR ? Thank You

Will have to read the blue light fly study (it's open access 🙂 ); reminds me of a rat study by Romeo et al (2013) wherein the rats' optic nerves were cut: "The rats exposed to bright light for 20 days or 90 days showed a relatively greater number of neuromelanin-positive neurons. Surprisingly, TH-positive neurons decreased progressively in the substantia nigra reaching a significant 29% reduction after 90 days of continuous bright light exposure."
Are the lights used to treat SAAD safe since they are not used continuously - just in AM (hope so)?

Are there adverse affects with post menopausal women using NR/NMN; specifically menstruation restarting?

Would think the benefits outweigh risks - later onset of menopause is associated with healthy longevity. I'd be very happy to deal w/ menstrual bleeding again if I also got all the benefits of functional ovaries.

My 80-year-old friend started taking NMN several months ago, he is 15 now, going on 16. 🤔

It's like he's been practicing the fine art of self-pickling his organs. we need more studies on that since most people, including me are into this fine art.

@@gregmadison4342 Life is sometimes hard and we all try to improve it by developing social connections . In humans modest alcohol consumption promotes health despite it causes oxidative stress as it can have hormetic effects similar to moderate exercise via ROS generation

This is just for pedagogical purposes and not for encouraging anyone to consume alcohol.
