We lived on the road for 15 months in 2015/16 with our two boys, and loved it. Waiting now for our youngest to finish high school and we are back on the road again. All good tips. Another one is to be aware of all public and school holidays for each State / Territory you are in and wok out where you are likely to be in particular Easter and Christmas.

So true. An amazing number of vanners that we talk to have zero idea of anything mechanical. Never check oil or water or wheel nuts etc. so many will tell you that towing mirrors are a waste of time and then you watch them trying to park or manouver the van. Its pretty scary to think that we are on the road with these people 😮

Some good points there. You both sound a bit tired which probably goes back to the point that you aren’t on holiday but this is life and often we all get tired! How are your repairs on the van? I hope you start making some plans again in whatever direction they take you! Take care ❤

Hit the spot with how the weather definitely changes things. Wauraltee Beach one time was absolutely beautiful and the next time a nightmare with swirling sand and wind. A lot of driving to get there and so disappointed the second time around. A good tip, use Petrol Spy for fuel. Best ever as we sometimes found fuel up to 15/20cents a litre cheaper along the way! Looking forward to seeing you guys back on the road

great vid - so many people just copy everyone else and buy a big van and 4wd...that you can never squeeze into places due to track width or sand. and i don't know why peeps take pets...you cant get into national parks with em the nat parks are the best spots. take a 4wd and a two man tent and a light gas kitchen setup to cook meals at dusk. you will be the only ones in big wide open parkland at caravan parks...because all the vans are squished in like sardines. and in the outback, sleeping in a tent, it never rains in the outback so your fine. and stuff in the outback is usually 1000km apart. so you're driving for 2 days stopping, then driving big kms to find the next thing...a van just slows you down. the $40K you lose on resale of your van and 4wd that's literally luxury accommodation in every town the whole way around. tent, stay in caravan parks for extended stays like seeing Litchfield, and when near cities stay in normal motels. book three months in advance for the big places where you plan to stay. the rest just wing it with a tent, its half the fun...you don't need to lug a full working kitchen and bathroom around with you. there's always a servo bacon and egg sandwich just up the road and a coffee...sleep at dusk get up at dawn. i think i wore the same pair of shorts for about 40days...who needs to do laundry doing a round Australia trip...i did a the full loop inc uluru in 60days in a tent and it was magic. i saw so many unhappy van owners sleeping 30cm from another van in camp parks...paying high prices for that. makes zero sense. its the outback. get dirty...wear a bad akubra hat...stay in the same clothes for weeks on end. you only need to tidy up when you hit cities again...and sleeping in a $70 motel room in a proper bed you found off an app - feels like a $500 hotel after being in a tent for a week or so.

Hi Bianca & Grant - excellent tips for those new on the road with a van in tow - agree - new vans do not always come with no problems in the first 12 mths - although the problems do occur just outside the warranty period - it’s like the van knows when to fall apart
We are experienced caravaners - but we have a check list for inside and outside van (reference guide) of things that need to be completed - even though on the road for a few months - one can still forget to do this or that in set up or pack up 😬
All the best once again for the new year- stay in great health (( hope you do not have any long term issues from COVID too) hope the pups are still giving smiles on your dials 😊

great vid guys, lived on the road for a few years now in my caravan and my crappy little washing machine is one of the best things i own, my devanti twin tub for only 170 bux is so good weighs nothing and parks outside pretty much all the time, I really not keen on laundry mats, the spinner saves a lot of water with rinsing. and you can was multiple loads in the same water. i mean i really love my washing machine.. as soon as something goes wrong with it i order another,, honestly on my third one now, so the quality is not great but still its the best.

Great video guys. Loved it but I would have added in money. This is the most important thing that keeps you on the road and paying for all that you have listed too. It's impossible to put an amount on but for those who are young and don't have the financial resources behind them need to work to fund their trip. The same applies to the older people as well but perhaps not quite to the same extent. Finding work on the road isn't always easy and the pay can be very low so people need to expect and prepare for this. However, as you have said, there are lots of things you could have listed, and it's almost impossible to cover all those too. This video is great, down to earth and something everyone faces everyday out there. Thank you so much for all you have said and provided all the same. Hope you had a great Christmas and New Year.😀

Do you know that you can get a Pink Slip done anytime for your NSW registered vehicle up to 6 months before it is due? For example, if your rego is due in December you can get a pink slip anytime from July the same year. This might help some of your viewers.

In tip No.10 you said that you travel 40,000 to 50,000km per year. I've been on the road fulltime for 14 years and I learned a long time ago that you don't need to do that much.Try doing less, then you won't have as much wear and tear. You'll also save money on fuel.

Sage advice that's really important to know and consider, coming from a couple who have and are experiencing it themselves and are regular/normal Aussies. This IS stuff others just don't cover, only wanting to show the glamorous side of traveling, often with an enormous or bottomless budget. Thanks and best of luck to you.

Voting in elections! 😳 We travelled across Australia via the Outback way this year and during our return trip we had to organise voting in the referendum in outback SA. Hard to plan ahead for that because early voting arrangements only opened 3 weeks before polling day and online information on interstate voting was limited until polling started. We eventually managed to find an interstate polling station in Port Lincoln! ✅
My husband had similar issues renewing his drivers licence. Similarly you cannot plan too far ahead for that!
