    Use glue on that throttle side! Surprising, but my grip is moving whenever I put lots of force on it, when braking or opening full throttle.

    Just purchased this same set and I have to say that is the most clear and concise instructional video I have ever seen

    installed these a few months ago on my Super Tenere, following your instructions from this video. Had my first opportunity to use them on a cool spring morning ride the other day. Real nice!!!!

    Putting a set of those grips on my '98 DR 650 right now, I have Renthal bars too and was worried about pounding them on. Nice video, thank you very much.

      +Jack Johnson I forgot to mention, you might need a piece of PVC pipe with inside diameter a bit larger than the bar to tap them on the last couple of millimeters.

      Put the grips on and went to Tennessee this past weekend, only had to use them three or four times but they worked great.

      +Jack Johnson, Good to hear. We still have snow and ice, so I haven't even tested mine yet. Maybe in 2-3 weeks.

    Great video - thank you! My Bandit had a set when I got it and they work almost too well. Of course, I'm not in Alaska...
    They have not been working since the mechanic put the bike in storage last fall... one of these days I'll source out the problem. Still too hot to care!

      Thanks!
      My guess is a popped fuse or it isn't even connected to the battery. Hope you get it sorted. 🙂

      +Mark Konik, I completely agree. Hope it helped. That part about not using glue on the throttle.. DISREGARD! Do use the glue! My grip started slipping eventually.

    Well done. I have the same system and am installing it. Even three years later, still no splice included. My voltage tester was broken, so I have to wait a day to finish.

    You're in Alaska! Great video! I did the wiring last night on my 2012 NC700X and added a relay to minimize the power load and used the headlight wire as a + trigger for the relay and main power coming from the battery. Loved the ending demonstrating the temp capability. The BikeMaster kit I got has been upgraded and includes modes for how fast it heats up and can turn off if bat voltage falls below a level you can set from (12v-13v?). Nice looking bike.

      Thanks for the positive feedback Paul! That upgraded model sounds nice. I went with an Oxford brand for my Royal Enfield Himalayan. It has a similar feature for auto shut off for peace of mind. It's been good to compare both brands. In the end, they both heat up nicely and keep my hands warm. Using a relay is an excellent idea. 👍

    Great explanation, very thorough and tidy. Although being in the automotive industry- I DESPISE those scotch-lock crimp connectors. I have seen more failures due to oxidation and vibration fatigue in wires than you'd believe. Just ordered a set of my own, good job.

      +Dan Ervin, I also dislike those cheap connectors. It's what was available locally and easy to source. Maybe I'll change them out one day.

    I made the mistake of removing the little nubs entirely so now I'll have to glue it on there.

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  6 років тому +1

      +marshallferron you ned a little glue no matter what. I found after a time of use the grip ould move, especially if I go full throttle... throttle would stop but grip would turn more. Anyway, glue is good. Enjoy! I love my heated grips.

    Great video. Was looking into heated grips for both of my bikes. Once temps dip into the 30s here my commute from work gets sketchy. It’s 30 minutes one way an none of my gloves seem to cut it at 80 mph on the highway. By the time I get to work my fingers are borderline frost bitten. Any follow ups as to how these do and how they’ve held up for you? Seriously considering them

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  5 років тому +1

      Yes! They do amazing and look and function like the day I installed them. I decided I prefer a slimmer grip, but for cruising and commuting these are fantastic.

      Almost forgot, DO use a little glue on the throttle. Even with those ridges the grip will eventually slip. I ended up using a little of the glue right between the grip and white ring of plastic of the throttle. That way I can still separate the two if needed.

      Interesting. Good to know. I was looking at my R1 last night and trying to figure out how to get those heated grips on. I’m guessing the rubber part of the existing grip slides off and I would slide the heated grip over what’s left?

    Dumb question but does it matter what wire you splice on the fuse box To connect them?

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  6 років тому +1

      That's a good question! Yes. It should be a wire that is only hot after the key is on so you don't drain the battery. Also one that can handle the extra amperage. A fatter wire is a good sign. If it has a larger fuse, that is also a good sign. Now does it only have power after you turn the key? Hope that helps.

    Just installed a set of these on my Triumph Sprint. One question, after a few minutes of riding the lights go off. Does this happen as a rule? I haven't been out on the bike yet because of recent surgery so not sure there still working or not.

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  3 роки тому

      Once I turn the heated grips on, the light indicator on the button stays on. It does not turn off after a few minutes. I'm wondering if you have my exact same, older model of these grips, or if you have a newer version. If newer, I don't know if there's some different functionality. On my Oxford heated grips, on my other bike, a battery saving feature makes them turn off automatically if the battery voltage is too low. Of course, when your bike is running the voltage should never be too low. Still, is your battery in good shape? You may want to run the bike with the grips turned up pretty high, while taking a voltage reading of your battery, and see if the voltage maintains at a high enough level or if it drops.
      That's all the information I can offer. I hope you figure it out. If you feel like it, let me know what the conclusion is.

    Many thanks for this video. I'm about to install my set this weekend and recommend using a Posi-tap instead of the alligator clip to tap into a switched line.
    Also after much research I'll go with a relay, switched by the license plate light and connected to a terminal strip, which in turn is connected to the battery via a fused connection. That way multiple accessories can be connected to the terminal strip, are switched, and fused, and most importantly, not directly connected to your main electrical system. If one of them goes haywire it will blow one or more fuses first before it even comes close to any of your main components.
    All parts are cheap and here are good instructions: www.canyonchasers.net/shop/generic/relay.php

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  6 років тому

      +SV650NYC I like the idea of isolating the grips from the bikes main wiring harness via a fused terminal strip! Everyone should do that.
