I've only had one cab ride in my life so far, back in the early 90's on Kentucky Railway Museum's K2-a Pacific class L&N #152, built by Rogers Locomotive Works in Paterson, NJ in 1905. The "cab" ride consisted of a wagon's buckboard bench seat sitting atop the front of the tender. You could sit up straight and just see over the roof of the locomotives cab. By the end of the trip my shirt had several burn holes in it from burning cinders from the stack, LOL!
Great memories of working the west side yards in NYC in the late 70s'! The sounds, the stench & coming home covered in soot after a day switching cars. Thank You!
Had my first cab ride in the same type of engine in 1961 or 1962 with the New Haven. Worked the Braintree, Ma. yard and then they gathered up cars and we went over to the Fore River Railroad yard. Left the full cars picked up the emptys and return to Braintree.
Gotta love the cab rides, as it has been a while for me! Thanks for sharing! I have a lot of footage from the early 1990s if you are interested! I have subbed to your channel as well. Bob...
The reverser seems to be opposite to the Canadian National ones I drove as a hostler 50 years ago. Same unmistakable sound of a turbocharged 539 MacIntosh and Seymour engine though.
Excellent footage......that was a special day👍

I love these old trains
I rode behind one of these on a scenic train 20 years ago and had forgotten what an odd-sounding engine that is.
The ALCO 539T prime mover is a thing of beauty.
