  • Enjoy a beautiful and unique cab ride in Catskill Mountain Railroad’s ALCO RS-1 locomotive #401. This engine was originally built for the Illinois Terminal Railroad back in 1950 at the ALCO Factory in Schenectady, NY. After it’s time there, it served on the Green Mountain Railroad in Vermont, and then sold to the Catskill Mountain Railroad in 1988. A lot of the current trackage that the #401 travels on through the Catskills dates back as far as 1899 and 1905! The line was originally built by the Ulster & Delaware Railroad as a branch line to Oneonta in the 1880s. Eventually, the line would fall into the hands of the New York Central, Penn Central, Conrail, and now the Catskill Mountain Railroad.
