    I believe all DLC are on the cartridge. It's normal for some games to download patches as big as the games themselves. The cartridge likely has all the updates available, where "available" means at the time the build was sent to Nintendo. The 1.24 patch likely came after that, since the game continues to be updated regularly. The benefit of having the cartridge is that, when the eShop shuts down in the future, you will still have patch 1.23 and all DLCs on cartridge. That said, I naturally wish there was a "true" complete version, but as long as the game continues to be updated, no version will be complete

      @shadowen1942 Рік тому

      Personally I'm not convinced of this. Looking at the filesizes on Nintendo's webstore it lists the base game as 2.4 GB but then on the product pages for the DLCs they are only 3MB each, which to me suggests that they may simply be 'unlocks' for their respective content and the actual assets/data for the the DLCs are included in the 2.4GB of the base game. If that's the case and given the 1.9GB download and resulting 500MB difference, to me it would seem to suggest that the actual assets for the DLC are not on the cart.

    • @Denolth
      @Denolth Рік тому +2

      @@shadowen1942 I understand, but the file size of the download doesn't mean that the file was originally missing from the cartridge. Take Mato Anomalies for example - the eShop lists its size as 5.1 GB, and the cartridge has a playable build, so you can play from start to finish without downloading updates. But there's still a Day 1 patch of size 4.9 GB. This means that the patch replaces almost all the files from the original build, except for 0.2 GB worth of data. It doesn't mean that the cartridge build was missing these files, it just means that the developer made changes to these files and your Switch downloaded all files containing changes. Even if the developer changed a single line in a 4 GB file, the 4 GB file has to be downloaded. Whenever the game requests these files during runtime, the Switch reads from the patched files, and ignores the ones from the cartridge, only using the cartridge when the game requests a file for which there have been no patches

      @@Denolth I have seen some developers do this in rare cases but I've seen way more do it the proper way of only adding on the stuff that's actually part of the post launch patch. The issue with the approach you've described above is that it's anti-customer as it requires potentially large storage requirements and additional cost that isn't clearly stated on the packaging which Nintendo is supposed to require for physical games. Also, both the developer and publisher clearly stated multiple times that everything was on cart when people asked and now won't respond to questions about the situation which is not a good look. They clearly knew this was an important issue for physical player's and collector's so not mentioning this 1.9GB patch is a big problem from a customer service standpoint.

      I own the original dead cells cartridge and I have purchased all the original DLC for it I also purchased dead cells Castlevania edition and I can tell you first hand that all the DLC is on the cartridge if I go and pop in the original dead cells cartridge it's going to make me download all the DLC when I delete dead cells completely off of my switch and I pop in the cartridge for the Castlevania edition all that downloaded DLC does not prompt to be redownloaded if I go into the eShop and I go to pick dead cells and I go to check to look at the DLC I will be prompted to redownload all the DLC independently from the dead cells Castlevania edition but the moment I go back to Castlevania edition all the DLC is 100% available on the cartridge.

    • @TreonsRealm
      @TreonsRealm  Рік тому +1

      @@MrDarkAvitar I will attempt another test on my personal system where I fully delete my save file (which I was hoping to avoid). I initially tested on my system that had a previous save file and on my son's system which didn't have a save file but in both cases, the Castlevania edition downloaded the 1.9GB patch. As I mentioned in my video, I did initially run in airplane mode so the patch couldn't download the patch and the cart does say the DLC is accessible but as soon as the system connects online, it downloads the overly large patch which defeats the purpose of putting the stuff on the cart. The major issue right now is the undisclosed large patch requirement. It's also disturbing if you are required to completely delete a previous save from a system in order to get the game to not force the larger patch as this is not the case with other games that do later builds on new carts. Others online have also run into the same issue and both the Dev and Publisher still won't respond to my questions about the issue which is not a good look. I'm still holding out hope that this will be addressed but it's looking like they will try and just ignore it sadly.

    Subbed. You give exactly the information I want. I have become something of a switch collector without really trying or aiming to as I do play all my games but I LOVE when games are fully on the cart and actually prefer when they release later for switch but with all content included like in hollow knight. I love the idea of essentially being free from internet needs if I boot up my switch in 4 years and want to play a game. Anyway its hard to explain. I love switch gaming. Keep up the great content.

      Thank you for your support, I'm hoping to be posting much more often this fall. As for the game, 1.9gb is far too large for just updates when the full game digitally is only 2.4gb. There is something very weird happening with the Switch version and unfortunately, Merge Games and Motion Twin still haven't responded to the situation.

    Thank you for the work you're doing. Dead Cells was a game I always wanted to get, but as soon as I found out there were multiple different physical editions with varying released content, I decided to hold off on purchasing because the many different versions makes it so confusing, especially if you don't want to double dip on content.

      Yea, I would wait for an extreme deal for physical as it was quite irritating to see it pushes the 1.9gb download on you considering that's almost the size of the entire game which is ridiculous. It also sucks that I STILL haven't gotten any response from the developer or publisher. I think at this point, they plan to just ignore it and hope nobody raises a further stink. bro youre being ridiculous. The DLCs are still playable. A lot of times updates have to delete and then re-add files that are already there. If you put the cart in and are in offline/airplane mode, the DLCs ARE THERE, and they are playable. Being made that a game gets a regular update is cazy to me lol

    • @TreonsRealm
      @TreonsRealm  11 місяців тому +6

      I have no problem with a game that updates with small patches after launch, my issue is with both the developer and publisher claiming everything was on cart before launch and then the game comes out and downloads a patch nearly as big as the base game itself. It's especially egregious when you consider this is the 3rd physical release on the Nintendo Switch. Many other games have done multiple Switch releases but they manage to not require ridiculously sized patch downloads. Also, deleting and forcing a re-download of those same assets is poor optimization which has become quite rampant in the game industry. To be clear, I am not saying the developers are bad as I know they have issues such as crunch and budget constraints that are systemic from how broken our system is. I am also not saying the game is bad, my videos are to educate potential customers on what is actually on the physical game they are buying as many people want their physical collection to be as future proof as possible. Seeing as digital storefronts have and will be shut down in the future, there are many games that will be negatively impacted by this fact so many players don't want to be blindsided by this in the future.

It may not be the *most* up to date version but everything is still playable and working. You’re throwing a fit over the absolute smallest thing there is. Its a video game for crying out loud. I hate how a lot of gamers are so entitled and rage at the absolute smallest thing. Like dude why cant you be happy that its on the cart and all of it still playable? Theres literally no harm done. If you buy the cart, and dont have wifi at home or are going on a trip and bought it on your way out, you can still play all of it with absolutely no issue. But you’re still mad? It's wild when you have an update that's almost as large as the e-shop version of the game though... if it were a 30MB patch fine, but it's not the full game on cart if you require a 2GB download afterwards, the whole point of caring about whether or not the full game is on the cart is that you don't want to do a 2GB download
