I like how you address the beginners by explaining what a measure is, while also providing a gold mine of information for even advanced musicians. I learned a lot thanks.
there are so many poorly explained drum pattern videos on UA-cam. This one is one of the great ones. Thank you Nick and thank you splice! Please keep videos like this coming.
I’ve learned everything I know about drum patterns from this video within 2 hours and I feel like I have a SOLID foundation now. You got my vote for most helpful music production video I’ve seen so far!!! Thank you!
It's crazy how upcoming "producers" are not running this video up. So many educational life changing gems just in this one video. Sadly, most upcomers start out doing just about anything with no regard for basics. Literally spent the whole day digesting this video and I am so glad I did. Keep up the good work Splice!🙌 Whoever came up with this idea to actually teach production as a change in direction for splice is a BLOODY genius and DESERVES a raise. And so DOES Nick😤. He is a BLOODY Legend!!!
This video will kick start my adventure for real. As a upcoming middle-aged newbie producer, I'm mostly doing things for my own amusement. But I have been struggling with creating drum patterns. Turns out I'm missing the basics even, and you've been so helpful giving me such valuable information.
This is quite literally the video I've been trying to find for years. Exactly what I wanted explained and in depth. I'll be rewatching this many times because this is precisely what I've been trying to better understand about drum patterns.
It sucks that it's taken me so long to find this video, this just encompasses everything I was looking for, so many other videos that just all said the same thing and had no helpful advice whatsoever, thank you so much for making this.
Knowing which instruments are used for each type is on its own priceless. Put a melody on top and there you have it. Even try to just copy what is shown here and take it from there. God bless ya and have a healthy year, brother!)
because I have Cubase, I nearly discarded this tutorial, boy i’m so glad I didn’t this taught me more about my grid in a short amount of time, than hours of Cubase related tutorials cheers for that great tutorial👌👌👌
I like to, as someone with a background in drumming, approach it with funk. If you know how to do funk, do that and make it more like your bassdrum is hyperactive. To get a good starting point, I'd suggest Commodores' Brick House and RHCP's Give It Away. It might not help you as much with those unnatural hihat rolls, but it definitly helps with the bassdrum
@@bartelvandervelden9894 - the very fact that someone is asking for "808 patterns" is an indication of how far beyond your understanding of music is from theirs.
Hands down one of the best videos I've seen on music production in a while. I'd love to see some breakdown videos where you take apart the drums on a track and explain what is going on the way you did here.
Doesn't Matter how long you've been producing, there's always more to learn and it never hurts to go back to basics and touch up on them. Really good video !
This video is awesome as it covers "THE" basic elements of any track.. The drums..I am new to programming and it has cleared a lot of my doubts and I understood tips and tricks of how to arrange drums... Thanks a lot SPLICE.
1. Find an example of a drum pattern you like 2. Download it and drag it into your DAW 3. Isolate a full loop and cut it at the start and finish 4. Adjust the tempo to fit the song 5. Use the grid to see which hits go where 6. Voila, you can now replicate any drum pattern
@@sosickhcdrums No problem. Note that most music with real drums will not have a completely consistent tempo, so you will notice the hits lining less and less up with the grid the longer you make the sample. So with those, at least for the sake of learning how to make them, I'd recommend slicing the clip into as few hits as possible.
I've made my first few things on ableton that sound like actual music now thanks to you. Fantastic video. I downloaded the midi patterns for the drum loops which makes it even easier. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much. This video has helped me immemsely! Amazing content. Cant thank you guys enough for all you do. I'm really interested in the Jersey Bounce and more detail on that!
This is a wonderful "whole workflow" resource, including the actual sounds you used. Great tutorial, Nick. I like Splice sounds a lot, but I wish that the search engine was better (especially with so many sounds) and that you could do boolean operator and phrase searches to narrow down results.
Was getting ready to hate this - not a fan of drawing drums on a grid....but hats (no pun intended) off to you and thank you, it's fascinating - much appreciated!
Thanks for this! I've been having a lot of fun translating it all onto the Digitakt, even though I'm not interested in writing in most of these genres there are loads of concepts there that will be useful for all sorts of stuff.
This is EXACTLY what I needed. I'm learning music production and I have no idea to make the drums for any beat but thanks to you I can have an idea and I can practice now ^_^ THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!
very informative! it is quite shocking to me, how similar overall all these beats are in construction, but feel very different in the context of the other element you played along. good staring point to experiment. the modulation you showed on the hats are a very interesting effect I have never thought about. good stuff!
Brother! Thanks a ton! I didn't know of the hi hat transpose modulation feature. I was always using a separate midi track to program hats. You just saved me a lot of heart ache. Bless you 🙏
@Splice I am about to buy some more equipment for a basic studio setup. Do you have any advice on a few different packages or bundles that would be good options? I have several pieces of it already, but I need a DAW, studio monitors and a midi pad for sure.
