As a guitar player that has recently started trying to write my own songs, the drums are the one part I was most struggling with. Thank you for this list, it was exactly what I needed.
Don't worry. See it as an opportunity for him to make a follow-up video: "10 More Popular Drum Patterns Every Producer Should Know." In fact, given how UA-camrs operate, I'm sure it's already on the way and I am looking forward to it.(If not, I'm sure he'll oblige if you request it).
House and Techno use the four on the floor beat with different syncopated hi-hat variations. Breakbeat and Drum n Bass very often use the Iconic 8ths rhythm at their respective tempos. Dubstep uses a half-tempo two-beat rhythm, and is sometimes divided 12/8. Most other electronic genres use derivatives of those rhythms. The most important part of the modern EDM genres' rhythm is a consistent snare beat on beats 2 and 4, or beat 3 for half tempo songs. It's a consistent trend across almost all popular genres of its type. Makes it easy to dance to. You're welcome.
I work with heavily disabled people and one woman really likes heavy beats. So I jam for her through the day. She's into hip hop and songs with the "dem bow" (min 4:19). I mimic drum patterns on the back of my guitar and she's headbanging, like she's on a metal stage. Thanks for the inspirations for private and work use from a non- drummer^^

Thank you so much for this video. Perfect explanation! I am studying eletronic music production and this helped me understand the classic drum patterns.
Many thanks for this. I'm just learning to use Hydrogen drum program and this has really given me a lot to play with. I was stuck for useful beats as I know nothing about drumming but now I feel I can tackle a whole world of drums.
1:47 i immediately started singing: "well, sometimes I go out by myself and I look across the water and I think of all the things of what you're doing ... in my head I paint a pictuuure..."
I build these in my sequencer as an exercise. These are the BPMs that kinda worked for me 1 - Four on the floor: 140 bpm 2 - Trap Beat: 200 bpm 3 - Bo Diddley: 100 bpm 4 - 2 beat: 160 bpm 5 - boom bap: 90 bpm 6 - dem bow: 100 bpm 7 - impeach: 100 bpm 8 - iconic: 100 bpm 9 - 12/8: 110 bpm 10 - shuffle: 120 bpm Would recommend, but I found that 3, 6 and 10 don't work super well with my static drum samples

Wait, the visual track for the Shuffle Feel at 7:25 looks off - shouldn't it be a triplet grid, with 12 beats instead of 16? Sorry to nitpick! Thanks, really appreciate your super clear explanation!
Yes. I wish someone commented on it. Either there are steps missing, or the visualization should have the double speed. Will try to dial it in tomorrow.
2 beat is used in many synthwave songs. The whole idea of this genre is looping and simplicity. But, to make it less repeatable they usually add small change on 4-th repeat
I came across this video because. ...drum loops. (I already posted a comment after a pause in the video ). Thanks for showing the loops in a daw format at the bottom perhaps I'll look at more of your videos :) 👌

Bit of a mixup with your time stamps: impeach comes after iconic eighths. Excellent video in any case!

This is a terrific idea. We'll add it to the list. Thanks George.

Thanks George
I don’t know if you could make a whole video out of that tbh. Most electronic music is either 4 on the floor or the Amen break for DnB stuff
