  • Richard Simmons is slamming a proposed movie about his life starring comedian Pauly Shore. The comedian even plays Simmons in a new short film, "The Court Jester." Although producers are planning on making a feature-length movie starring Shore about Simmons’ life, the 75-year-old denounced the project. The film's producers tell Inside Edition, “While we would love to have him involved, we respect his desire for privacy and plan to produce a movie that honors him, celebrates him and tells a dramatic story.”

Pauly shore was always a little weasel. Richard Simmons actually tried to help a lot of people lose weight in a time where fitness wasn't that popular. There were NOT all the gyms or anything like that. People really were fat shamed and really just didn't move. In certain ways Richard Simmons was a pioneer. Whatever your fitness level, you could get up and dance with Richard simmons.
Today we just have Pauly shore trying to capitalize on his life. Pauly shore needs to do something else besides this.

Sure he is quirky, but people forget this guy was literally the one responsible for the health craze that kicked off in the early 80's. He was WELL over 350 lbs and without drugs or surgery, decided to get in shape and lost all that weight. More importantly, he has kept it off for all these decades. Even if he made millions, people never really gave him the respect he deserved.

I like him and think he had a genuine love for those around him, but he wasn’t the sole one to start that fitness craze… if anything, Stallone had a bigger impact and that started in 76 and continued through the whole 80s. I think about the satirical scene in anchorman where Ron Burgundy says something like “yeah they call yogging… with a silent J, and you just go out run for fun…” Simmons was an influence to the older, obese, low self esteem crowd, and was a good and inspiring man, but he wasn’t alone in that reputation or the first.

Richard actually sent Pauly a text wishing him good luck. It doesn't sound very angry to me. I watched the short video "The court jester", and it was very respectful and had a great message.

Why can't they leave him alone. The guy improved the lives of so many, he should have had a nobel prize for the wonderful way he had of encouraging people to have fun and get healthy. My wife is in her 70s and she does Richard's "stretching to the classics" and "Sweating to the Oldies" every day. He had a way of making people feel happy and proud as they were taking off weight and moving more. He never shamed anyone nor do I recall him ever saying that staying fat is your choice and you should be happy. No he just encouraged and showed how to do in the safety of your own home while you joined the TV excercisers of all sizes and shape having a great time. Richard Simmons should never have to wonder if he did any good with his time on earth, because he gave extra, better, healthier and happier lives to so many.

Richard Simmons cried on the Howard Stern show once. He was telling stories about the portly guests he brought with him, and as he is telling the stories, Howard had bags of Doritos on fishing poles to lure the portly people into eating them. Richard hysterically cried and Howard told him to adjust his short shorts. It was rough, man.

I can certainly understand Richard Simmons' need to say he did not authorize a full length bipoic movie about him. Richard was/is a very unique individual who helped millions of people. I also understand the desire to make a full lengh biopc about Richard Simmons' that would portrary him in as the uniquely uplifting and positive person he was/is.
Having just watched the short film "The Court Jester"...literally jus minutes ago...I can say it does show how Richard could reach out and make someone, anyone, feel better about themselves and his gift of lifting people up and not looking down on them.

On Facebook he is opening up a little stories of his life. Seem like silver lining but between the lines pain and unspoken things. I think Richard has had a painful & a bizarre twisted beautiful life. Many unsaid things that affected every aspect of his life & spirit... So how can anyone produce movie about his life, they don't know him at all & even the people who do, do not know everything he keeps inside, he is trying to be kind & respectfully even to those who were worst to him. He has wounds he covered in glitter & chose to dance with others who needed love & find the joy too.

From what I’ve seen it paints him in quite a good light, and I would watch the heck out of it, but I do understand him wanting to control his own life story and not have an unauthorised version of it because it’s his story to tell.
