Bought the 6.6 Diesel in September. Love it! Towed my 33 foot toy hauler over Donner pass in Northern California and back to the Bay Area. I don't care what excuse GM has; they should've thrown on a front locker. That's one thing that makes a ZR2 so special. They have other trims to prioritize payload and the work side of things. Why even bother with a ZR2 trim in the HD segment if they're not gonna make it competitive..
No other diesel HD off-road truck includes a front locker. And the reason is obvious... the brands do not think they would hold up under the extreme diesel torque in customer hands. Frankly I bet that's a correct assumption. I have no clue what you think is the competition but they don't have lockers either. The Power Wagon only has the Hemi and it sacrifices so much on payload and towing I think people would be better off with a half-ton if they really think they need that level of off-road capability. Next, I'd argue that for the vast, vast majority of people the primary benefit of the ZR2 trim level is the DSSV shocks. Those shocks are the best available on an HD truck by miles. Ford and Ram do not put a high end shock on their off-road trucks be it the Tremor or Power Wagon. And then you have the increased lift and the much larger 35" tire. I think people who complain about the lack of locker quite simply wouldn't need it in the first place. And I've owned a Colorado ZR2 and a Gladiator Rubicon, both having full lockers.

Is that 10-speed (co-developed with Ford, I heard) actually reliable? Do you have remove the whole dash to fix the ac/heater core as per GM tradition? It’s not a ZR2, it’s a glorified Z71 !! Why bring the ZR2 package and not compromise a little for the lockers. That’s the whole point of the ZR2 package for more off-road capability. The only reason to buy anything over a Z71 or trail boss is to get the lockers of a ZR2. I was excited when I seen the heading “ZR2 “ HD. Very disappointing

@@phillipcotten4872 it is totally accurate, but your comment was not my point. My point is not everyone needs the maximum payload capability. You don’t need to be literate. 😍 A nice old lady there sure will help you to find a map and Canada on it.
@@fongvang935it's actually an English language thing.
Beautiful Truck! I love Chevy, however I feel more comfortable with my 3900 payload on my 2018 Ram Megacab. For now I keep my truck a little longer.
That's a Fiat mega cab bud
@@mikehd3904 I don't mind if it's a Chevette mega cab it tows my 35ft fifth wheel and all my toys just great. I may look into a chevy down in the future. What do you tow with your truck Mikie HD?
@@manuelguzmanjr6622 24' boat, flat deck car hualer, got a sled deck with 2 sleds
I'm just hard timing ya bud , I'd love if chevy came with a cummins
@@mikehd3904 And I would love an Allison transmission, built in steps, and the chevy look! I got to😄 have a chevy some day!
How come this truck isnt made in Michigan like the other HDs are?
What does the off-road mode do ?
I think with the ZR2 package it still should have gotten the front locker at a minimum. How much would that really affect payload? Personally I think the truck looks ok except for the front end which is not attractive.
Who's Zed? I tuned in late. 😂
Just 108k on my local dealer lot. Cdn dollars.
They have lost their minds
Can someone explain the point of calling a Z… “zed”?
Is that 10-speed (co-developed with Ford, I heard) actually reliable? Do you have remove the whole dash to fix the ac/heater core as per GM tradition? Does it have OTA software updates that can brick the truck due to low-voltage, like the midsizers? Is the Duramax still reliable at this power-level? What's the 5-year depreciation on a $100k truck? If you have a $100k truck and a $50k -$75k giant trailer, wouldn't it be cheaper and more comfortable to fly to your southern haunts and stay in a hotel or resort? Interesting video gents. Cheers.
Gotta take your other toys with you.
Man this 10 speed thing is so annoying. I don't know who started this misinformation, but the 10 speed they Co developed are the 10 speeds inside 1/2 tons and other light applications.
Ford and Chevrolet then developed their hd 10 speeds by themselves.
I have a 2024 Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab 4WD Z71 with stock 18" wheels. Do you know if you can fit the same 305/70/R18 Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tire that comes on the ZR2 HD on my 18" wheel, and have it clear without rubbing? Stock suspension at this time. looking to level or lift in the future but right now would like to run that with stock suspension .
We don’t know, however Chevy has most specs on-line. Some searching is required.
I have to say.. i have a 24 LTZ 2500 duramax with the midnight edition. I think the midnight looks much sharper and it came with the hancook MT2 which is a nicer more aggressive tire. My tow capacity is better also at 20K.
Its ok to say ZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
When in Rome, do as the Roman's do. ✔
Would a gas burner tow that camper ok? Looking to save 10k with a gas engine!
It should
Wonder why the 3500 does get this option?
They said the 2500 is their best selling hd truck so they're gonna start with the 2500 and will bring it to the 3500 later on if it sells well
Pronunced Z
As soon as I hear "zed-R2", I'm out. On to the next "Z"R2 video.
I don't care for this ZR2 truck package. I rather get the fully loaded Z71 Off Road.
If there isn’t a front locker of some kind then why am I buying a ZR2?!
Howard……there’s your truck. Just saying.
You lost me withj the repeated zed's.... LOL
While I agree with the front lockers part, this is an inaccurate comment regarding the rest. Clearance, shocks, interior, selectable rear locker. There’s no point in a HD truck if it can’t do HD work
@@phillipcotten4872 it is totally accurate, but your comment was not my point. My point is not everyone needs the maximum payload capability. But there is a whole market out there that would buy it for the extra added locker even if it made it sacrifice a little payload. Why else would you pay the extra $$$$ for a ZR2 if you get the same thing in a Z71 or trail boss package ? Both of which the other two packages have skids, shocks and Better suspension over a base model. Difference from them was the front locker in the differential.
@@phillipcotten4872EXACTLY. Had they done what he insisted he’d be here complaining about the lack of a HD truck being able to do HD things with a ZR2 price. *gm* cannot please EVERYBODY. That’s just the reality. Somebody’s going to be “disappointed” and complain about *something* and if there’s nothing to cry about they’ll literally find something, anything…and if that fails they’ll settle for just complaining about the price of the perfect truck. It never fails! It’s the new cool American thing to do.
@@buckeyejeeper9996 I’m not one to argue but in my opinion, the point I’m making overshadows yours. It wouldn’t be an HD truck with what you want and I’m not sure about you, but I see a heck of a lot of HD trucks on the road and very few power wagons. Go get you one of those, just make sure you don’t put anything in the bed when you have 3 passengers riding with you.
@@G-Rated amen
About time a 2500 comes from the factory with real tires, not some pizza cutters
Expensive at over 100 000, this truck has a luxury tax as well.
So with tax around 135000 out the door?
Sad isn't it?
You lost me at 90k
Y’all would complain about the price of a cruise ship 🛳️ costing $90k too. I’ll be glad when y’all stop pretending you’re just looking for these trucks to “justify” their price points when y’all really just want everything they offer for $15k-$20k less. If they don’t comply then you’re convinced they’re “overpriced” regardless of what they _do_ offer. Lol
@@G-Rated lmao what is this a Communist country now ! Pick up s should not cost 100 k pal .My opinion Go be a Ken somewhere else not my problem you probably sell these

'ZED' - but why?
I’m so sick of people saying “Zed”. C sounds NOTHING like Z. Who tf came up with that crap?
Needs a bigger grill 🤣🤣🤣
Zr2 not zide r2
Chevy didn’t want to add the weight so they didn’t add a selectable locker! That’s a big lie, I couldn’t imagine that a locker would weigh any more than 5 lbs more, even if it was 15 lbs… that’s nothing! All the trucks are too expensive, the diesel emissions defeat the point of being efficient, im blown away that diesel fuel is injected into the catalytic converter to make a complete burn, how about having propane injection into the intake side instead! It would produce a complete burn and not burn black.. the power increase would be crazy too, but I’d recommend only to add enough propane for a complete burn.
❤CHEVROLET❤
This is the first truck I’ve seen where conventional payload exceeds gooseneck payload. What gives?
They loose so much payload and towing by adding garbage options.
Garbage options that people don’t wanna live without in their trucks? 😂
@@G-Rated yaaa the downfall of men. A guy should be able to spec out a truck front to back and bottom up. Like these tailgates are getting out of control.
Chevy Not playing in the Crazy game because" They Couldnt"!!! The Isuzu Durmax reached its limit.
Chevy, the folks who just built the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated V8 engine can’t compete in numbers wars with Ford and Fiat? IS THAT YOUR FINAL ANSWER?? 😂
Nah, there's alot of untapped power. It's for maximum profitability and emissions compliance. Plus theyre just gonna squeeze the juice out so they can have something new for the sales and marketing team to aevertise about every three years.
Banks is getting 1,000 hp out of a stock Duramax block. Look it up...
This tells me that they have reached the maximum limits of this 6.6L. A GM 6.6 gas would be perfect for my needs.
Nah,limits for profitability and emission compliance. But there are still plenty of untapped power with more tuning.
Torque conversion HUGE issues with the fake Allison transmission combo from 2020 to 2024 models. SUCKY!!
