As a Southern Baptist, I thank you for presenting a non-biased and educational explanation. I would slightly amend the video by clarifying that not all Southern Baptists are memorialists. There's a minority (myself included) who affirm real presence in the bread and wine/grape juice. That being said, thanks a lot!

Is Christ present for all or only those who believe? At what point does Christ become really present?

Grew up in the SBC, but it always struck me that I could go two blocks to another SBC down the road and hear something completely different preached. The fact that the Pastors essentially had no authority, could be voted out due to Church politics always struck me as odd. Also never bought into once saved always saved despite it being pummeled into my mind growing up. Nevertheless I'm grateful to have been baptized, despite them believing Baptism doesn't do anything. The focus of my Pastor growing up on a lot of the old testament being fulfilled in the new was a great help for understanding and gives me a great appreciation and interest in typology today. I'll never return to my Baptist roots, but I value many of the things I was taught growing up within the Church I did.

I am a Calvinist, so I do believe in OSAS. But just saying that OSAS is true without further clarification or elaboration is irresponsible and potentially dangerous, because it has the great potential to give people a false sense of security. I prefer the term IF saved, always saved.

I love the Baptist Church (although I'm not SBC). What I like is that each church is in control of their own destiny and can do what they want within reason. If you want to see a church that will kick people out at will because of church politics go to a Reformed Church. I was a member of the Reformed Church in the US and the Classis would dictate everything and would block ministers from being ordained or even serving for any reason, and it didn't have to be a valid reason either. I'll take a Baptist Church any day.

I grew up mostly in Pentecostal churches, and now attend a Baptist Church in a large city. What's incredible to me is how they structure theology compared to the little Baptist Church my family would go to once in awhile when family friends were singing, or some other special event was taking place.
In the little local Baptist Church they were very much 5-point Calvinists, very minimal instrumentation and worship, and singing from a red back hymnal, and die hard cessionists.
Fast forward to the Baptist Church my family attends attend now, they are essentially opposite on those previous views. It's very interesting to me the variety inside the Southern Baptist convention. Very much love where I'm at now.

Your fake KJV version translation of your blasphemous ‘Babble’ is notoriously the worst translation of ancient scriptures ever scribbled. You are an IDIOT and your ‘beliefs’ are a pathetic LIE.

It's nice knowing we can have slight differences and disagreements with one another without totally disavowing eachother. There's a reason why non-denominational churches are essentially Baptist with a drop of charismatic, Baptists are already used to people having secondary and tertiary disagreements.

Baptist churches are definitely the prevalent denomination here in the south, and my wife and I were in the heart of Atlanta at "Country Inn & Suites" visiting the Atlanta Aquarium a few weekends ago, and, for fun, I typed in "Baptist churches near me."
Within a 2 mile radius google had more than 100 results, I just stopped counting at 100.

@@robertshipley6990 Before you jump onto the Catholic ship, I recommend that you investigate churches that teach good doctrine while avoiding the trendy aspects you mentioned (e.g., light shows, rock band worship, songs that are all about "my feelings" instead of praising God). Those churches do exist. Some congregations have even split over the music style, if you can believe that. In any case, correct theology is far more important than the music style; and the Catholic church has a lot of problems in that department.

@@theknight8524 Dr. Ortlund is such a sincere and humble man, but even after watching his videos fairly consistently, I still find peace in my decision to leave Protestantism. I feel like the majority of his arguments boil down to "Why be Orthodox or Catholic, when you can find their same traditions in Protestantism?" It would not surprise me if he chose to convert to a different Christian tradition sometime later in his life, and I, along with most others, would welcome him.

I think these days, while theistic evolution is frowned upon, as long as you maintain Biblical Innerancy you can hold whatever view of Creation you want. Young-Earth is certainly predominant, but Old-Earth views are accepted as long as you can square it with Genesis 1-2.

NO ONE at the convention would talk to me. Everyone was soooo busy being in their own little worlds and their own conversations. I went outside and talked to people who were outside the annual conference.

I am saddened by the fact that the full SBC is no longer Pre-Tribulation and Premillennial. I do believe that this view is the Biblical view.

      Free Will
If He wanted to save everyone (Universalism), or if He just wanted to save certain people (Calvinism), there would have been no need for Jesus Christ to lay aside His Divinity, be born of a virgin, live a sinless life, Willingly die on the Cross, and be raised on the 3rd day. He could have easily created only those to be Saved (Calvinism), or everyone, as automatons (Universalism). Then everyone would automatically, without question, do His Will. Adam and Eve would have never fallen.
But we must understand His desire. His desire is that we all come to Him of our own Free Will.
      Therefore,
      1. There had to be a perfect sacrifice to atone for sin and disobedience. God is Holy, God is Just, and we must understand these attributes of God as well as His Love, His Mercy and His Grace.
      2. Free Will, as there was in the Garden, as was given to ALL of God’s creation had to remain intact, as that was God’s Will from the beginning. Because of His Love, His Mercy and His Grace.
      3. We must believe, we must repent, we must confess OF OUR OWN FREE WILL. We must, to the best of our sinful nature love and DESIRE His Holiness and His Justice in our life.
True Faith produces Fruit, as slowly as it may grow.
It’s not that God can’t save the whole world in one fell swoop but He WANTS the choice to be ours.
God created mankind and has always been and will always be Sovereign. Adam and Eve, through their God given Free Will, chose to try to “Be like God and know good and evil”.
Abel chose to follow God. Cain chose to rebel. Seth chose to follow God.
But the world quickly fell into rebellion. God chose Abraham that through his seed He would build a nation, a chosen people and through His supernatural blessings upon Israel the world would recognize the One True God, believe and repent.
Instead Israel rebelled and CHOSE to follow the gods of the world.
Yet, through Israel, Through the Jewish people God sent His Son to bring the light into the world that the Jewish nation had been charged with doing.
I see Free Will everywhere. I see God’s Grace everywhere. And, sporadically, I see Faith in God’s Grace. Exactly as I find it in the NT.
Think about it. Do you believe God knows everything? Then He knew Adam would fall.
Therefore, He predestined from before the founding of the world His Redemptive Plan.
Neither predestination nor adoption have anything to do with preselection and everything to do with the fact that Salvation for ALL who would choose was SECURED before we were ever created.
Genesis 1:26 (KJV) And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
“In our image.” Doesn’t mean we look like Him. It means we have His attributes. Free Will. Intelligence. Ability to think and discern.
John 1:12 (KJV) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:
“As many as RECEIVED Him.” “To them that BELIEVED.”
Isaiah 46:10 (KJV) Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times [the things] that are not [yet] done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:
Predestination = He KNOWS the end from the beginning. He has ALWAYS known, before the foundation of the world, that you would BELIEVE.
HE PRE-KNEW YOUR DESTINATION. It was predestined before the foundation of the world BECAUSE you would BELIEVE.

As true believing Christians 1 Thessalonians tells us:
For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 1 Thessalonians 5:9 - KJV
And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. 1 Thessalonians 1:10 - KJV
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 - KJV
This was written by Paul to the Thessalonians who fully understood the Rapture and who were looking and waiting for the Rapture. Many of them were worried that their loved ones, who had died, missed the Rapture and Paul was reassuring them that the dead would be caught up first and then those who are alive will follow.
The Pre-tribulation Rapture is to be a source of comfort for those hearing these words, the Pre-Tribulation Rapture is a promise for believers. As we read in 1 Thessalonians 1:10 and 5:9, as believers, we are not destined to wrath. Jesus Christ died on the Cross taking on Himself the wrath we were due without His Willing Sacrifice. Instead of wrath we are now blessed with Salvation and eternal life with Him. There is no more wrath, no more condemnation, our punishment was paid-in-full by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
      1 Corinthians 15:50 - 54 says:
Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 1 Corinthians 15:50-54 - KJV
I believe 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and 1 Corinthians 15:50-54 show there will be a rapture. A catching away, an instant change from our corruptible bodies to our glorified bodies.
In Revelation Jesus writes to seven churches. The local churches that Jesus wrote to were along the area’s postal route.
These churches represent four different aspects within these churches and all churches throughout history.
      Aspect 1 - Ecclesiastical, the church’s hierarchy.
Aspect 2 - The current issues within the local church.
Aspect 3 - A personal, individual application, places in our hearts and lives that may need reflection and repentance.
      Aspect 4 - Lastly, a prophetic application.
These letters actually cover all the churches in the history of the Church Age, from the first to the last.
Historically and prophetically the first three churches mentioned are gone but the last four are still here today. You will notice Jesus telling the last four churches that they will be here for the End Times. Please see Revelation 2:22 (Thyatira), 3:3 (Sardis), 3:10 (Philadelphia), and 3:16 (Laodicea).
The church in Philadelphia, the sixth church letter, prophetically represents the missionary churches starting in the late 1600’s and exploding with William Carey’s “Inquiry into the Obligations of Christians to Evangelize to the Heathen”. There are many missionary churches today and there are some that are not. Jesus Christ is not speaking to a denomination but to all those with a missionary spirit. My church is a missionary church. Please, are you in a missionary church? Do you evangelize?
Revelation 3:10 says to the church of Philadelphia (missionary church):
Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Revelation 3:10 - KJV
This is the only church with the promise of escaping the Tribulation.
I believe 1 Thessalonians 5:9 and Revelation 3:10 tell us as true believers we will not see God’s wrath. We will not be here when God pours out His wrath on an unbelieving, Christ rejecting world.
Those left to go through the tribulation, this is their last opportunity to believe, repent and accept Jesus Christ as the true Messiah, Our Lord and Savior.
The Tribulation is known as the Time of Jacob’s Trouble as found in Jeremiah 30:7. Father God is turning His full attention back to the Jewish people and nation in order to bring them to the realization that Jesus Christ is the True Messiah, the King they have been waiting for.
Unbelievers will not be raptured and will experience the Tribulation but they can still be saved. The Church Age is finished, there’s no more need for the Church. The Two Witnesses, the 144,000, and the angels will now spread the Gospel. The True Church is gone.
Also, another reason that the Rapture is Pre-tribulation is we are to be watching and waiting for the Lord Jesus. The Tribulation is the ONLY End Times prophecy without a timeline for us. The 10 virgins / wedding parable speaks directly to this. Please see Matthew 25:1-13.
Throughout the Old Testament, Father God gave Israel everything they needed in order to recognize the Messiah. They didn’t pay attention and they missed their Day of Visitation. In exactly the same way the Church has been given everything we need to know about the End Times except the Rapture timeline. We too must pay attention so we are not caught unaware.
For those not raptured, as soon as the peace treaty is signed you will know the Tribulation is starting. 7 years later, exactly, Jesus will come in His Second Coming. This part of the timeline is given.
We know midway through the Tribulation, the Abomination of Desolation will occur, the Two Witnesses will be killed and the Great Tribulation will begin.
What we don’t know and why we must stay alert and watch is because we don’t know the hour of the Rapture. Everything else in the timeline is given. This is a comfort to those waiting and watching AND listening for the sound of the Trump and the voice of the Archangel. We will not experience the Wrath of God.
      Also;
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:1-3 - KJV
Another promise is that Jesus went home to prepare a place for us. His Father will send Him for us as His Bride before the Tribulation and we will spend the seven years of the Tribulation with our Husband, in seclusion, exactly as in the seven day Jewish Marriage Feast.
Lord, in trouble have they visited thee, they poured out a prayer when thy chastening was upon them.
Like as a woman with child, that draweth near the time of her delivery, is in pain, and crieth out in her pangs; so have we been in thy sight, O Lord.
We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought forth wind; we have not wrought any deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen.
Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.
Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.
For, behold, the Lord cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.
In that day the Lord with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea. Isaiah 26:16-27:1 - KJV
      I definitely believe in a Pre-Tribulation Rapture.
For those who believe the Pre Tribulation Rapture is an invention of modern day, please see:

I am not Orthodox so I don’t hold much stock in their Saints but, nonetheless, Saint Ephrem of Syria, wrote before his death in 373 AD, the following:
“For all the Saints and elect of God are gathered, prior to the tribulation that is to come, and are TAKEN TO THE LORD, lest they see the confusion that is to overwhelm the world because of sin.”

God imposed his wrath due unto, and Christ underwent the pains of hell for
      1) either all the sins of all men,
      or
      2) all the sins of some men,
      or
      3) some sins of all men.
If the last (3), some sins of all men, then all men have some sins to answer for, and so shall no man be saved; for if God enter into judgment with us, though it were with all mankind for one sin, no flesh should be justified in his sight: “If the LORD should mark iniquities, who should stand?” Ps. 130:3. We might all go to cast all that we have “to the moles and to the bats, to go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty,” Isa. 2:20, 21.
If the second (2), that is it which we affirm, that Christ in their stead and room suffered for all the sins of all the elect in the world.
If the first (1), (all the sins of all men) why, then, are not all freed from the punishment of all their sins? You will say, “Because of their unbelief; they will not believe.” But this unbelief, is it a sin, or not? If it is not sin, why should they be punished for it? If it is sin, then either Christ underwent the punishment due to it or he did not. If he did, then why must that hinder them from partaking of the fruit of his death more than their other sins for which he died? If he did not undergo the punishment do to the sin of unbelief, then did he not die for all their sins.

Brother Oz, I am not Omnipotent I cannot read someone’s heart or mind.
I will say I am a born and raised Southern Baptist and I have seen and met a lot of people who attend church for a myriad of reasons besides Jesus Christ.
Before I retired I was the community outreach administrator for the 15th largest automotive dealership in the world. We offered a vast array of training programs for our sales team. One of the suggested ways to build a client’s list was to join and become involved in a local church.
These types of questions in reality are the type of judgments Jesus Christ told us to stay away from.
In the proper time Jesus Christ will take care of purifying His Kingdom.

2.41x as many SBC churches as towns, and they're almost all in the South. And that doesn't even include a lot of stuff, like Northern Virginia, West Virginia, the Cincinnati, St. Louis, and El Paso areas, most of Florida and Southern Louisiana. That astounds me. Look at the intensity of the church's distribution in places like North Mississippi, North Texas, or North Louisiana.
Also, as somebody from Colorado, if anybody's wondering why that one county in Colorado is so intensely SBC, it's because this map is based on %, and that county has legitimately less than 1,000 people in it. Compare that to the city of Denver, which has 711,000 people in it. The SBC may very well be the only church in that entire county.

One correction (from a SBC Pastor): Southern Baptists, historically, do not believe in the Pre-Tribulation Rapture. This belief came in in the early 1900s and gained popularity about 50 years ago. Today there is no set rule as to what one must believe about the timing of the rapture, just the belief in the Second Coming in God's time.

SBC churches tend to have a wide variety of "inessential" doctrines. I was raised in an urban SBC church (50s and 60s) where the level of education was relatively high. Many wives worked as teachers, nurses, secretaries and in family businesses. Never did I hear a preacher preach on female submission, or try to tell a husband and wife how to run their family. We moved to a city about 25 miles away in 1960s-70s. More rural influence and way more conservative. One preacher preached that going to the movies was a sin. I'm sure that with the SBC of today, both of those churches would be considered way too liberal. Back then there were virtually zero Calvinist leanings. Now it's a different story.

Too charitable. Everything the video says is true, however, leaving out the church's stanch on absolutely no women in leadership positions in the church, and the insistence on wives being submissive to their husbands makes the SBC seem more innocuous than it is. Especially when you consider that many in leadership teach a female submission doctrine that all women must submit to all men, not just their husbands. I was raised SBC in the 50s-70s, and the swing to the right has transformed the denomination into something I no longer recognize. It was a great denomination to be raised in with its emphasis on beautiful music and reading and memorizing scripture. Back then, no preacher would have told a married couple how to run their relationship or their family, and many women worked at regular jobs outside the home. Now it's an unsafe place for women and children.

    • @juliachildress2943
      @juliachildress2943 9 місяців тому +1

@Nitsua2828 Believe whatever you will. Here is the deadly combination: a church where men hold every position of leadership. Not only do women have no power in the church, but they are taught that they must submit to men, it's a sin for them to be leaders at home, if their husband is violent or otherwise abusive, they need to submit harder, under no circumstances can they divorce their husbands, and if there are problems in the marriage, then the church elders, again, all men, must get involved. This gives men absolute power. Not only do I have direct experience living in this kind of religious environment, but I'm an expert on Christian cults and high-demand religions. There are literally thousands of men, and a few women, who have been charged with all kinds of abuse in these churches, including the Catholic church (again, an all-male hierarchy) and the Southern Baptist Convention churches, as well as many independent churches. Surprise! the Baptists and independent churches also have all male leadership. How many continue to perpetrate abuse is not known. To add insult to injury, there are writers who are very popular among these churches who openly advocate and perpetuate this religious dogma. When you add homeschooling to this toxic stew, you get an environment where women and children are not safe. I'm a Bible-believing Christian and over the past 40 years I have seen these unbiblical doctrines proliferate, resulting in untold suffering of the victims. None of this is a secret. A little internet research confirms all of this and more.

Women are also not allowed to speak and have salvation through childbirth. Gold and pearls are not to be worn by women. Widows in need of charity are to be given help to those women over sixty because women under sixty may still be sexually active. Most biblical experts these days believe that Timothy was written after Paul's death for many reasons you might want to look into. The earliest records of gospels do not include Timothy and some church fathers had serious doubts about the letters. The writer of Timothy did give some rational for preventing women from being pastors first God created Adam first and second Eve was fooled by the serpent and then Adam was deceived by her. So women are basically easy to fool will make men do bad things and Adam came first not sure why being second is bad. Not sure what part of the religious belief women are saved by childbearing means for baptists or how exactly letting women speak in church got past the convention but there you have it.

Faith Alone - Not Works - Not Baptism
Faith Alone is what differentiates Christianity from every other religion on earth. Not works, not Baptism
Galatians 2:16 (KJV) Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV) 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Paul warns us of believing in anything else.
Galatians 1:9 (KJV) As we said before, so say I now again, If any [man] preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
That’s never to say that Good Works should not be a part of the Christian’s life. They most certainly should as that is the Fruit of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. Leading us through a life of Sanctification. That’s exactly what James is about, the Bible NEVER contradicts itself, James and Paul don’t disagree.
Our Faith in Jesus Christ brings Salvation, He sends us the Holy Spirit and He leads and guides us in obedience, in love, in patience, in charity AND in chastisement, when needed.
Does 1Peter 3:21 Say Baptism Saves
1 Peter 3:21 (KJV) The like figure whereunto [even] baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
“Not putting away of the filth of the flesh.”
Sin is not removed by the water. There is no Saving Grace in Baptism.
“But the answer of a good conscience toward God.”
When we rise from Baptism we are making public our private repentance (made only unto God) and our decision to put our Faith in Jesus Christ. We now stand before God clean “by the Resurrection of Jesus Christ”. Not by the water. When we go down into the water, we die with Him. While we are under the water, we are buried with Him. When we come up out of the water, we are raised with Him…. Symbolically.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV) 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Acts 10:1-48 (the whole chapter) tells of the conversion of Cornelius and his family, friends and servants. I am going to post only part.
Acts 10:43-48 (KJV) 43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
1st they heard the Word. Then they Believed the Word BECAUSE we see them receive the Holy Spirit which is confirmation of their conversion. Then they are Baptized.
Acts:8:26-40 - Philip and the eunuch. I am only posting part.
Acts 8:34-39 (KJV) 34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
36 And as they went on [their] way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, [here is] water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.
Verse 37 - “If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest.”
      The eunuch Believed first.
There is absolutely no mention of Baptism in Romans 10:9-13. Believe, Repent (confess), Salvation is a Gift from God.
There are NO WORKS that can save, if there were we would still be under the Law.
Romans 10:9-13 (KJV) 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

John is talking to those who are baptised by the Father into the church of his Son, who say they are believers but still sin even against their promise not to sin which gained them the Holy Spirit as their witness.
If the true believer does mot sin then he is in fellowship, and by the witness of the Holy Spirit Jesus will cover past sins before baptism, but if a sinner confesses his sins after baptism he can be forgiven with true repentance as with guidance of the Holy Spirit they can be regenerated. If Southern Baptists truly believed that the Bible is without error they would believe that Baptism is one of the forms of grace that offers forgiveness of sins - they would also believe that when Jesus says to eat my body and drink my blood for the forgiveness of sins that they would believe that too instead of calling it a lie. That's pretty much the biggest reason I don't have a lot of respect for the denomination.

      Refuting Transubstantiation:
John 6:53-57 (KJV) 53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
Just six verses later we get the meaning of His teaching.
John 6:63 (KJV) It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life.
      Matthew 26:27-29 (KJV) 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave [it] to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
Jesus is specifically talking about His death, His shedding His Blood for the “New Testament/Covenant”. It is creating a new covenant.
He continues to refer to the drink as the “fruit of the vine”. He doesn’t again refer to it as His Blood.
Paul does exactly the same thing in 1 Corinthians 11:26-28 with the Wine and Bread. It’s not referred to as His Blood and/or Body.
1 Corinthians 11:26-28 (KJV) 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink [this] cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of [that] bread, and drink of [that] cup.
The Bible was written by the Holy Spirit, through men. He would never leave such a doctrine this ambiguous. The Holy Spirit came to guide us and teach us everything we need to know.
1 John 2:27 (KJV) But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
Passover dinner was before Christ’s Crucifixion, His Blood had not yet been shed. But once it was shed it was Once for All and for All Times
Hebrews 7:27 (KJV) Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
Hebrews 10:10 (KJV) By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once [for all].
1 Peter 3:18 (KJV) For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
There is no need to do anything more than Break the Bread and Drink the Cup in Remembrance of His One Time Sacrifice for all who will Believe.
There are too many to count other passages that show Jesus’ use of symbolism. These are a few.
Matthew 5:13-14 (KJV) 13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
John 6:35 (KJV) And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
John 10:7-12 (KJV) 7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly.
11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
Southern Baptists always interpret the Bible literally as long as it remains within context. That in no way implies that we don’t/can’t recognize when Scripture is symbolic. To insinuate otherwise is strictly for pride on one’s part.
We don’t believe it because it’s not Biblical.

    • @lanesmyname
      @lanesmyname Рік тому +6

Southern Baptists do affirm the inerrancy of scripture, but also hold a strong aversion to Tradition where they see it in conflict with the text. Jesus taught with a lot of parabolic language, so it feels unnatural to read a more literal view like transubstantiation into the text. It's also worth noting early church fathers disagreed over the exact interpretation or extent of the Lord's Supper/Eucharist, so there is a range within Christian orthodoxy, and in general I think there should be more grace given to those of differing views.
With baptism, the main focus throughout scripture is faith, and salvation through faith. So the understanding is that baptism is representative of faith. You are not saved by baptism itself, but rather the faith that leads to baptism. Same with the view of works in the book of James. It is not the root of your salvation, but the fruit. I hope this explanation is helpful to you.
