  • Footage from a Hollywood Video store in California in September.
    Shots of some of the games, a customer playing "Ready 2 Rumble Boxing" at the kiosk and employees standing around the in background.
    Not much to see here, unless you're a diehard Dreamcast fan, like myself
    This video last around 8 minutes or so.

    • @Quenux-
      @Quenux- 6 місяців тому

      @breadandcircuses8127 Not at all. I remember these years clearly. Most people were much happier than they're nowadays. There was less humans on this planet and the cities weren't as overcrowded as they're now. People didn't pretend to be social by locking themselves up in rooms to be on a digital device for the whole day. Many actually went outside, met each other, and spent time with each other. The media wasn't oversaturated like it's now. Some of the best shows/movies/serieses were produced in the 90s and early 00s. There was innovation and creativity all over the place. People were much more individual, cause they weren't following influencers 24/7. People were much more relaxed and less worried. You could visit your friends at their homes while their parents were at home. Everyone and their mother tries to hide themselves behind masks nowadays and most people are super stiff. Most malls and stores are also either gone or dead nowadays. We used to have street festivals where they'd close down the road. They'd turn the road into a small amusment park. People didn't need to work as much to make a living. Nowadays most people need to work 2-3 jobs just to keep up with the cost of living. Less people on drugs unlike today where there's an epidemic of drug consumption in many cities, cause more and more people are looking for an escape from todays reality.

    I remember in early 2000 being at Best Buy and passing by a kid at a video game kiosk playing what looked like a Sonic game I hadn't seen before (It turned out to be Sonic Adventure). I was like, "Wait, there's a new Sonic game? There's a new Sega system?" As soon as the kid walked away, I started playing around with it, and I realized I had a birthday coming up and knew exactly what I wanted. I got the Dreamcast for my birthday as well as a Game Boy Color with Pokemon Yellow. It was the best birthday ever.
    I also remember Ready 2 Rumble being featured at that kiosk around the same time, and I've never gotten the song out of my head even though I never played the game.

      @arandompasserby7940 6 місяців тому +1

      Funny enough, I think controller was one of the biggest downfalls of the dreamcast, but not for the same reason you mentioned.
      Ultimately, it's fatal flaw was the lack of dual thumbsticks. It was perfect for racing games, arcade ports, jrpgs and similar games ...... But not for shooters. Those required either tank controls or movement with the ABYX buttons. And considering that free movement shooter games were on the horizon to take over, it meant the console wasn't geared to properly handle them.
      I like to think that, with a 2nd thumbstick and a little bit more 3rd party support, the console might have lived a longer and healthier life. We might have even gotten the cancelled Half-Life port, and perhaps even the rumored GTA3 release for it.

    The Sega Dreamcast deserved to last much longer than it did. I blame Sony and Microsoft for Sega leaving the console wars in 2001, especially since both those companies rely way too heavily on third-party support, whereas Sega has the decency to make their own games.

    • @Silvergun_Raven
      @Silvergun_Raven 6 місяців тому +2

      It was more SEGA than anyone why they stopped making consoles; mistakes from the Saturn, SEGA CD/32X (I love the games on them regardless) and higher-ups in Japan were to blame. Also, the upcoming launch of the PlayStation 2 didn't help things, either.

      The constant iterations of the Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, and Sega 32X, the disputes between Sega of America and Sega of Japan, and the outright biased censorship in favor of conservative organizations is what killed Sega. By the time they realized their mistake and correcting with the Dreamcast, it was too late.
      They should have listened to their customer base.

    Looking at these late 90s- early 2000s videos, is surreal. Its like modern day, just with lesser tech and a slightly outdated (but better) aesthetic. What i mean is that graphic design and colors look a lot more vibrant than nowadays.

    Back then while my friends has the Sega Dreamcast I was chilling with the Nintendo GameCube we would talk about our games and have fun.Ready 2 Rumble Boxing is a must have when It comes to the Sega Dreamcast to me It's like Super Nintendo with Street Fighter 2 Turbo a must have. Good times back then. I hope Sega revives or does a Sega Saturn and Sega Dreamcast collection edition disc compilation for modern gaming consoles. They have done great with Sonic and Yakuza series throughout the years but not with their other games. Capcom is showing everyone how it's done with their collections but the other gaming companies are sleeping or something. Retro games are expensive and having a way to play these games with online multiplayer would be amazing. Capcom has been doing it and I hope Sega starts doing it with their other beloved classics. I love these classic vintage videos they make my day. Cool video. ^_^

    brings back memories, i worked at hollywood video from 2000-2001. I dont remember our store having games probably because of the location and crime.. but i do remember keeping the store clean, the movies aligned and checked across the floor and wall. "The wall" as we called it, was a nightmare to maintain after friday and saturday nights.. people would hide movies in the cartoons and classic section. good old days. The candy and cracker jacks lol. I remember putting together the "bundle" which was movie rental+bucket of candy and drinks, then shrink wrapping it. Once employees started selling copied dvds out of their trunks in the front parking lot, i bailed out.. it had gone downhill and shut down after i left.

    Man, this brings back memories. We had a Hollywood video nearby as well. The last video of yours that I saw (mall in november '96) took me right back to the season my grandmom took us to the mall, let us wander around, and tried to secretly buy us a N64 at Electronics Boutique (maybe it was EB games then?), but you could clearly see the N64 box through the flimsy white plastic bag.
    I miss the past. I'm sure 20 years from now, I'll miss being 40. Weird.

    I think everyone has their own gaming peak experience at some point. There’s gamers who say SEGA MasterSystem, SNES, PS1 was theirs, but for me the SEGA Dreamcast was mine. I had an absolute blast playing this thing and I was floored with each game I played, never being let down. SA1&2, Shenmue 1&2, JetSetRadio,PowerStone1&2, Skies of Arcadia, Phantasy Star. I mean just hit after hit. So many great memories running home from school watching Toonami and then playing my Dreamcast.
    P.S. My friend Caleb, him and I would connect our DC memory card and the play mini games, also with our Chaos, good times 😢

    I can assure you guys that in 1999, with a New Games Console, no one was tired if listen to the same new game over and over.
    1999 wasnt as Toxic as it is now, given how we are all Bombareded by Ads and these Gaming Companies at all hours of the day.
    Back in 1999, Things were still tied to Physical Locations, so places like Video Stores, Toy Stores were places were you could indulge in all things Vixeo Games.
    Thr moment you leave the store the Fun stays there.
    Gaming wasnt Tainted back then it was still fun and For The Gamer.
    Now everything has a Corporate aspect to it, so now we see some music olaying over and over as some Corporate Poly to grt you to buy something.
    Even though that was a thing back then, thr suits were invisible. In fact, you didn't get a sense if the Business of Gaming until Microsoft came in.
    But that was more due to Perception of MS more than anything else.
