Made a bot from something banned in the US - KINDER BOT

- A buddy brought me a capsule from a Kinder Joy eggs he had in Mexico. I have had Kinder Joy eggs here in the US but never realized the original Kinder Joy eggs were banned in the US. He said the capsules are inside of a chocolate egg and I guess in the US kids were also attempting to eat the capsule?
That aside, the Kinder Joy egg capsules themselves are great shapes for a bot, so with a few Final Faction bits and some LEGO parts I made this Kinder Bot.

as for the kinder eggs with capsules, i find them often, then there is a new one (not kinder) that has endangered animal toys in them within an actual egg in them. the starfish gave me ideas for tentacle legs on something.

I lived in Germany as a young teen from 93-97 and had sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many kinder eggs and now I really wish I saved those yellow capsules!!!
The reason Kinder eggs were banned was not because of the capsule. It was because of the toys that come inside it. Most of them have small parts that can be inhaled or ingested by small children. Many Kinder toys require assembly.
I guess some accidents must have happened in the U.S. that generated lawsuits. Kinder eggs are everywhere here in Portugal and around Europe.

@@Matt-md5yt more like the U.S. has more of a litigious culture. If the kid swallows the toy is it really the toy manufacturer's fault when the toy obeys regulations?

Ah, the Kinder capsule dilemma... they really want to be minions or [if they get legs] R2D2. Sir, you bravely travelled through that valley and out the other side. You get the, "better than the toy inside" Kinder Award. So often their 'banana-ness' gets the better of us Brits and we end up throwing the little devils out when we sort our scratch-building materials. Great Job!

The little robot reminds me of the aesthetics of the Japanese Machinen Krieger plastic models.

In the us there is anlaw against having non edible objects in food, simple reason to why they are banned
I loved the 90ies version of those eggs, as you were able to chain them because they head almost lego like bits on the ends. They also had versions where you could attach stuff that was in the capsule sometimes.

YAY! Now I know how to make movieable legs for my bots! Thanks Dave! This little guy is really cute. Do you sell them? I would like to have this guy. Also, thank you for such clear and detailed explainations without a lot of side talk. You are one of the best at that. I watch your videos and I feel like I can also do what you did because I can see clearly what you are doing as you explain. My mom has been carrying Tic-Tac's in her purse as long as I can remember and I am now in my 50's, now the Tic-Tac's come in a similar shape as what you used here, the bigger package does anyways and she has started bringing me stuff like that so I am going to follow your video and make this guy.

I have been making my builds over the course of a year then taking them to Designer Con in CA at the end of the year to show off and sell. I am thinking about getting them on a webpage to sell as well still not 100% sure how to do that yet.

Awesome little bot you created here Doc. Strong hints of an R2 unit with this one, though the head isn't a seperate unit.
I really like that you kept this one minimalistic, you have a much stronger will than mine. I would have covered that bot with greeblies before I stopped. That being said, I do think that the backside is calling for a couple little square pieces. Either as part of the earbud backpack or a utilility belt. 😁

cool, I have collected those prison wallets and been trying to figure out what to do with them. I got those for my kids and they always give me the plastic containers. I turned one into a Minion once.

The plastic part is not banned you can still get then at some import stores without the chocolate outer layer

Idk I'm pretty sure I seen hundreds of these in Walmart yesterday. Though I'm in Montana where we raise our kids with common sense and respect.
So we have them here in the states they just don’t put the toys in a capsule. Outside of the states the capsule is literally inside of the chocolate egg. 😀

I was being processed for a work Permit to the U.S. and tge officer told me never to bring one of these into the U.S.
I thought he was pulling my leg but I kept a straight face as he never explained why

You can buy a gun at walmart but the capsules are highly illegal and you gotta go to mexico to get them xD so weird.

Sometimes... I didn't on this one but i may go back and do that. When I do I just use a matte of gloss Rustoleum clear coat.

Quick historical trivia: The reasons Kinder Eggs are not allowed in America is actually because the F.D.A. has deemed that if it does not hold nutritional value, it is illegal to put in food. This was made a federal law, because there were cases of parents making complaints and pressing lawsuits against companies like Kinder due to the hazard this presented children. The most notable nail in the coffin being when back in the 1920s, a child had eaten the chocolate egg, opened the capsule inside, built the toy, and swallowed a part of the toy. Choking and unfortunately passing due to asphyxiation. The mother of the child sued Kinder over the incident and that's been the law ever since.
I knew it was something along those lines but didn’t know all those details. Thanks for sharing. 🙏

The toys inside the capsule are amazingly well designed. If a kid is stupid enough to mistake them for food then maybe they shouldn't be in the gene pool anyway. Just joking.
Yeah, I was surprised at how nice the toys are. I remember when Cracker Jacks actually had cool toys now they do a lame activity sheet or sticker...😅
That came out as a pretty cool banned build. I like it very cool. But I just kinda realized that a lot of your robot builds really remind me of HEAVY METAL influenced am I right or wrong?

It's not the capsules that are banned in the US but the toys inside them as they are choking hazards. I think it's total BS as there are more choking hazards in a single Lego set vs 100 kinder eggs.

So you can get Kinder Morgan eggs in the states they just don’t do the capsule inside of the chocolate. In Mexico and Europe the plastic capsule is literally inside of the chocolate egg.😃
