Norway's Northern LIE!

- From Winter Vanlife to a Snowshoe trek in the Arctic winter to the true northernmost point of Norway and Continental Europe, Knivskjelodden. While Nordkapp is often wrongly advertised as the northernmost point, it's fake. it is actually the most accessible by road. Knivskjelodden lies 1,450 meters further north and can be reached via a relatively easy 17 km round-trip hike, even in winter. Enjoying a trek on my winter van life trip on the Nordics.

All the way there I was thinking "I bet he goes in for a swim"... I didn't predict THAT though :D
The northern Atlantic, I’d rather not!!!!
😂
Coach load of people at Nordcap, looking out towards you with binoculars. I’m sure there’s a naked man wearing snow shoes over there. So there is, no doubt he’ll be British, they’re all mad you know 😂😂 great episode Alex 😀
Definitely multiple coach loads of tourists there that’s for sure!
So glad the Pixel machine was working! Although they were very small pixels! Hahaha, well done!
I had too specifically learn how to use that feature 😂😂
@@MispronouncedAdventures No matter were all girls, men, unidentified snowflakes etc.....
For about 30 years ago I did drive to the Northcape. This summer I hope to walk to the real most northern point of Europe like you, Cant wait! Great videoes dude! Happy summer :D
It’s a great trek in summer or winter! Definitely a great experience to walk to the most northern point
Finally got to watch this one. Guessing you're somewhere else in the world now.
Looking forward to next season.
Also I so need to get my solar ,inverter and DC to DC charger with mppt set up in my van . Only want it in case of a power cut.
Thanks again
Currently in the Indian Himalaya leading an expedition for work. Significantly warmer.
Enjoy the next season!
It’s a bit like Cape Cornwall and Lands End, just the other way around.
In someways yes
I was just there. Looks so different in the summer
I bet it does! No snow & rice and 24 hours sunlight?
@@MispronouncedAdventures Yep, Next sunset is 25.7.
Superb
Thank you
As if people would leave rubbish in that box. Disgusting.
I think it’s more perishable items which have been left sometime ago
Awesome vid cheers young man
Thanks for watching
Brilliant video, what a brave man. In that cold it might have dropped off!!!😂 x
Lucky for me, it was quite a mild day!
Great video. We are going to the same place from Finland in August. I'm excited to see if there are naked people there then too.😆
I think the probability of naked people increased in the summer than it is in the winter
I'm just imagining a cruise ship coming in to view as you're at the most northerly point, starkers... That said there'd probably be someone on their balcony in the same situation. Haha, I hadn't got to that part yet!
If only!
Would like to see you doing some winter mountaineering over there. Bet it's amazing views on days like that .
Would definitely like to do some winter mountaineering there myself.
Great stuff Alex, I was very curious to know what the coastline is like at the most northerly point.
The real most northern point rocks a gentle slope into the sea. Nordkapp the next peninsula along often called the most northern point is huge spectacular cliffs.
I was thinking sking, but thats norwegian me.
Us brits , do you like walking everywhere 😂
Yeah but true north point is hard to build great looking cliff stand and tons of parking lot. Cliff is much cooler than slope to the sea.
Whilst Nordkapp is definitely visually more interesting and having parking that doesn’t subtract from the fact it’s not the real most northern point whilst often claimed to be
Good video!
Much appreciated
Absolutely brilliant Alex. I walk mountains in the UK and love seeing your little excursions out into the wilderness. Not sure anything can top the Three Country Cairn winter hike (especially the frozen snot!) but love this sort of content. What temp was it when you were out filming that?
My background is trekking over the van stuff. And you are right, nothing contends with the Russia winter trip.
Being so coastal whether there was actually quite warm three or 4° I was pretty naked for about 15 minutes 😂
@@MispronouncedAdventuresMy wife says she would like more of this type of content except without the pixelation! 😱🤣
You're a hardy soul thats for sure; awesome (the video that is).😅
Glad you enjoyed! It was a fun walk
Good stuff
Cheers
And that's all you could think about at the most northern point of Europe? Getting completely naked? Must be very liberating. Ahum... 😅😅
It'll probably turn into some tradition now...
I did actually want to camp, but it was pretty miserable and starting to rain so I thought getting naked would be way better idea
You've got some balls.
A bit more after they warmed up!
Hats off to you and everything else!lol 😂
I like these remote exploring videos! be interesting to see a video of how you fully plan them, mapping, what you take general kit, wild camping kit and emergency bits.. even your edc kit👍🏼
Side note.. I’m almost ready to buy my big battery.. are Roamer genuinely worth the extra over Fogstar?
I’m looking at a 12v 460.. with a multi-plus 2 3kva 120 230v.. 750w solar with 100/50 mppt and new xs50 dcdc
Cerbo too.. how you finding the new black and blue gui? I really don’t like the old multi coloured box version looks like windows 98!lol
Enjoyed this one mate 👍🏼
I did actually record that entire section About all the kit I use and it didn’t make it into the video although it might make it into the week.
Roamer is definitely worth the extra over Fogstar, but for many people it comes down to just a budget. Roamer are heavily engineered and design product in the UK by us, superior and custom designed internally construction and components, and a lot more but it gets difficult for many people to see the difference when they only see battery boxes and prices
Book in a Roamer design consultation and ask for me. All work through your system path and electrical system designs and draw your entire schematic and then we supply all the components.
Why are his videos like hit or miss... some videos with 500k viwes, some with barely 2000. Its a shame for this hgh quality production and effort
Nature of UA-cam I’m afraid. I certainly wouldn’t mind every video hitting half 1 million!
Oof, on a "not stepped on before" sheet of snow/ice. I would at least have a stick or something for probing. Unless it's a known route I guess. Cool to have done though! edit: Oh scratch that, I need a coffee. haha I'm currently sick and being treated, but if I get through this, I definitely gonna do some storm-camping, always wanted to do that. Great episode!
In the case of Snow bridges, the fact that has been stepped on before isn’t necessarily a good indicator. following footsteps and thinking it’s okay is a classic great holistic trap. Snow is a very dynamic thing. The fact that it was stable a few days ago doesn’t even it is now.
Having worked the outdoors guiding people in winter environment for a long time it was a calculator view that it would be fine. I could see cross-section of the thickness.
@@MispronouncedAdventures That makes a looot of sense, thanks!
"Where's that tourist helicopter? I'll..." What was that? "I'll show him another helicopter"?
😂😂😂😂
Great video! I have once been to Nordkapp, but not Knivskjelodden. If I understand it right, the name means "knife's blade cape". Some Norwegian please correct me if I am wrong. Not very many people have been naked in that location, I guess :D
It’s geographically I could agree with that translation. It’s a very pointed peninsula.
I’m sure not very many people have been naked at that location, especially wearing snowshoes
@@MispronouncedAdventures I was thinking that are you crazy enough to swim there :D
You probably know that Swedish is the second official language here in Finland, so we Finnish speakers must study it at school at least several years. And because Swedish and Norwegian are so similar, I usually understand all the signs, ads etc. there, but not their speech.
In a way, yes. But "knivskjell" is a kind of clam, razor shell, so the naming has nothing to do with an actual knife 🙂
no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knivskjell
Chill-out 😂
😊
Us peasants are often deceived by Authorities 😢
I mean, in this case Nordkapp is differently close and visually more interesting and easier to get to than the real most northern point
Are there many Old, Bold Expedition Leaders? 😂
Mostly cold expedition leaders
@@MispronouncedAdventures For a moment I thought you were going to take a dip...❄🥶
hahaha brilliant
Glad you enjoyed!
Alex, what type of front engine cover do you use? Thanks
Home-made one, it’s using the normal quoted insulated material motorhomes often use for their windscreen covers. I bought a raw strip of the fabric and cut it in shape of the grill.
You, sir, are a very silly gentleman.
I aim to be
Lol brilliant 🎉
@@intransit2822 glad you enjoyed!
Are North Cape and Knivskjelodden really a part of mainland Europe? They are on the island of Magerøya not on the mainland. Kinnarodden, Cape Nordkinn in English, is on the mainland and is the most northern part of Norway that is not on a island, it is around 6km south of Knivskjelodden.
If islands are allowed to be included why is Svalbard excluded? Franz Josef Land is even further north but then the question is where does Europe ended and Asia begin.
Cape Nordkinn is a 24 km hike one one, perhaps a goal for next winter?
I get the point you are saying. I do you Continental and mainland interchangeably during the video, which could be seen as different things as you quite rightly point out they are on an island.
Although I do include Svalbard Archipelago as further north In “Europe”, which is why I specifically mentioned that knivskjelodden is the most northern part of continental/mainland and not in general Europe as it’s not.
From my technical point of view, I am unsure when a island is no longer classes “mainland” unsure if the channel has to be a certain depth or width or a different geological structure
Although I do use “Continental” more in the video, as the island of Magerøya is still considered continental Europe, whilst the Svalbard a archipelago is not
Nice hoofing it..
As a Brit, I like to walk 😊
Little expedition! How did you turn on your diesel heater? The text message thing autoterm has?
Third party “Afterburner controller” for a 5 kW Chinese diesel heater. I can log in to a webpage and access my diesel heaters controls.
@@MispronouncedAdventures ahhh not an autoterm one then! They really need a better controller to turn it on and off remotely
@robww5921 i’ve tested the Autoterm’s, they are the best quality unit with probably the nicest display controller. They do lack the remote access stuff the better format than just texting
God Alex your getting like Jon of off @truebluetravellers😂😂😂😂😂😂
Jon and I get along rather well!
