      @@RobertJohanssonRBImGuy I feel like every single Diablo kid grew up knowing it was the best. Then we got D2, even better somehow. Then from there it was a LOT of hopes and dreams that kept falling short. D3 was a HUGE disappointment for me when it launched, then they "fixed" it and it was fun for a while. Then there was a giant gap of nothing that fulfilled it's promise of being better than POE1 or D2. The only one that came close for me was Lost Ark, but once you reached endgame you realized what the game was about. I remember freaking out when I saw those Lineage Eternal videos come out of South Korea and those promises failed as well. Once D4 came out and completely crushed my hopes for a better alternative to POE, I "caved" and went back to POE. Because I came at ARPGs as a Diablo person I saw POE as impossible to play without a guide. BUT this time was different, I had no other games to look forward to, POE was it or I was going back to FPS or fighting or arcade games. I finally sat down and took the time to learn the balance that POE tries to instill. And it all just fell into place. You don't need a guide or a build. You just need to balance and tweak and have fun.

      i feel it will be the opposite. It will be like 10 supports for your build/archetype as you usually scale something, and most supports wil be useless. So you could use the same supports for you single target and clear skills but nah. Now you will use all 10 of your archetype can use and then not even try to implement other skills because of lack of the supports. Hope i'm wrong tho. But if feels it cuts variety. In poe1 noone forced you to play something, but you picked meta because it's strong. Now you won't even have the option because of gem tags and 1 support thing.

      @@divinityai They are basically ruining the game. I wish they just kept it like PoE 1 but with better graphics and new campaign / maps / etc. They could probably fix it by giving better movement skills, reverting this only one support thing, allow 6 deaths per map, and bring back static maps too cause sometimes I want to run the same layout over and over again like Strand, not some random generated map.

    Might even be best in slot for most builds if it remains unchanged.

    The biggest flaw i see so far is build feeling, the attack speed seems like itll be rough when you're swarmed by mobs and potentially getting stunned by hits

      @@swootyx Warrior is very tanky in act 1 just by filling your gear slots but end game it will use the Untiring and Aegis setups both to basically be able to AFK when surrounded by monsters

    The start for this build looks rough, assuming that we beeline to the 2H+Shield keystone we might need a LOT of additional str to equip an on-level 2H mace, if so, it might mean taking primarily an attribute highway route from the start. Then grabbing Fire convert keystone and some fire nodes near the highway. Hopefully the full tree gets dropped before launch.

      Why not go for all the ignite scaling first and 2 hand without shield until you can get the Giant's Blood? The consequences of dying a little more will be lesser at the beginning anyways.

      HotG is a lvl 52 skill and we don’t yet know how to get the remaining 25% of conversion to fire. Safe to say it will have to be a respec late in Cruel or in maps.

      I'm assuming you don't rush 2H+shield keystone at first. All the active skills including hammer of the gods do work with one hand maces which should do totally fine. I assume you would switch more late game when you have started to slowly stack strength on your character to sustain the keystone and when you have crafted a busted 2h mace. No need to go for that keystone early. Maybe Conner will give his take on a next video.

    you know whats even better about curses? +decaying hex (hexes deal chaos dmg over time) +hinder (chaos damage over time inflicts hinder), if that works, youre literally untouchable at melee unless you go afk in the middle of the fight (and wait like 10 minutes for enemies to close distance)

      20%cdr would only drop it to 19.2 seconds, thats a big investment for 5 second, so not really worth it, unless they will be really close to path already taken

    I think the "balance" to this better ignite is much weaker ignite proliferation and possibly an inability to push targets into negative resists (not sure if flammability and exposure will be able to, we know penetration won't go below 0). In poe 1 we routinely triggered exposure, elemental EQ + flammability on targets AND we had decently wide AOE ignite prolif as well. Edit: ignite scaling however powerful does miss out on some of the hitscaling though. There are plenty of supportgems to scale the hit itself while simply relying on the exertion from infernal cry to provide a strong "default" ignite. Examples that require "setup" and/or "consume" ailments: Combo finisher, Exploit weakness, Biting frost, Bloodlust (doesn't consume but requires bleeding target), Frostfire is probably the strongest on though with +100% ignite on frozen targes (but won't pair with biting frost since they both consume the freeze). Hourglass is also another 50% one if you don't mind adding even more cooldown to the skill. As a comparison the +75%/-25% supports that buff the ailment but reduce the hit is effectively only a 31.25% increase to the ignite because of the smaller hit it is based (probably still good enough to make the 5-gem lineup in most cases). Getting freeze into the setup might be tricky unless you don't mind weaponswapping to a crossbow with permafrost bolts so I would probably stick to a setup skill that procced heavy stun on the boss and also had the "devastate" support to fully break the armor at the same time which would set up for the "exploit weakness" support on the hammer. I do have a question about "enraged" and "enraging" cry: will those work with only 1 warcry use if you don't already have rage?

    Hey Conner, do you think Frostbreath unique could be an option for 1hander or sorc? There are a bunch of nodes/supports that increase ignite or hit on chilled/frozen enemies. I wanted to do something similar but with spells before I saw your video.

    Is Blasphemy intended to by-pass the curse limit? I mean i know you CAN socket multiple curses in it, but wouldn't you just be restricted by the curse aplication limit and be obligated to take +1 curse to fit in both Temp Chains and Enfeeble?

    Would going witchhunter instead of titan make sense for smoother map clear? (go straight down on tree, get cdr, 2-hand, +10% attri)
    Surprising Strength give 40% more dmg to ignites after hammer drop may be overkill since the numbers are already nuts.
    Same with Ancestral Empowerment giving hammer 1 more link. Both need 4 points, with their first notable not helping hammer ignite.
    4 points into Socery Ward give -50% armor/eva, but scale 45% of the remaining 50% armor (22.5% of original armor) into ele ES. 45k pre-nerf armor = 22k armor +10k ele ES. Would this be comparable to Titan's +20% max life + double armor from chest? I think you mentioned in one of your delve video that ele max hit is more favorable than phys/chaos max hit.

      Sorcery ward requires a base amount of scaling and items to make you feel tankier.
      Titan stuff is just free from the get go, and you aren’t suffering penalties that may make gearing harder.
      Penalties are easier to manage on your 2nd or 3rd character when you can use unique effects to outweigh them, but trying to do that on a budget on your first character is a lot more annoying.
      Also, we don’t really know what monsters hit types are going to be, or how important phys vs ele max hit are yet. It’s hard to know how widely applicable that ward is going to be, while bonuses from other ascendancies would be safer bets.

    check out conc effect and also combo finisher for your HOtG links. Combo finisher could be good if you can reliably build combo points during your hammer cd.

      yea I'm curious about combo finisher personally. The only mention of "combo" I've seen are the skills that "finish" it so I assume you can build combo with other attacks just by having a "finisher" slotted. Another interesting interaction would be if you can have a source of freeze in your preparation for the hammer and then use "biting frost" support on HotG to force a crit though without critscaling investment on the tree it is probably more trouble than it's worth.

      iirc combo finisher specifies "strikes" which is different from "slams" (hotg is a slam) so combos would be something you use with strike skills.
      You could probably make something kind of similar to this setup (without the ignite shenanigans) with flicker strike where you build up multiple power charges, debuff the boss, warcry, build up combo and then flicker the boss for giga damage

      @@Nuancexd I do wonder about the context of that quote... if I read that correctly then the monks "tempest bell" would be unusable because it "uses" combo to summon yet if you can't generate combo without "using" it how can it activate??? I think there is some confusion there between "combo finisher" and "extended combo"

      @@Flakzor123 I’m going to assume that the dev isn’t wrong, and that we just might not have proper gem information for tempest bell, or the combo mentioned by the dev and the combo mentioned on the bell are actually 2 different things. The assumption is that the dev was referring to combo in the use case of building combo on a useless skill to spend on a giga skill.

    Think I'm going to try this on blood mage actually. Overflowing life from the first ascendancy point, ES from body armour gained as life, whatever the node leading to that one is, and crit damage based on life. Then when this inevitably get's nerfed I'm not stuck with a titan I don't know what to do with, and can reroll into minions or smth lol. Since you have to path all the way over to the curse node anyways shouldn't be too many points wasted on alternative pathing, just path up from the witch start, maybe pick up a couple of those ES as stun threshold nodes in witch starting area, since I'll be using the ES body armour anyways for the Bloodmage ascendancy. Really just comes down to how easy it is to get crit with the 2h melee, since I'll be banking on the crit damage per 20 life node.

    That seems like a long way to go from start to giants blood, to Aegis and up to the ignite cluster and Whispers. Have you pathed this out?

      A full path 180 degrees from 6 o clock to 12 o clock on the tree is 30 travel points for 7 jewel sockets. Not too worried

    I thought DOTs had an initial hit of 25% in POE2? or was that just poison? I mean its probably still strong even at 1/4th the damage. (I'm sure I heard something on the videos/podcasts or read somewhere that DOT's when applied deal 25% of the hit damage eg. 1000 fire damage - 250 poison damage) If I'm wrong please let me know, thus far I wasn't too sure about a DOT build

      It’s 25% of the base damage per second. That’s your BASE before any more/increased multipliers, etc.
      So with all the multipliers you end up with like 200%+ base damage per second over the entire ignite duration so the total ignite does many times the damage of the initial hit.

    POE2 we have a weapon swap with a whole new passive tree. Just build one tree for HOG and the other for a proper clear skill like Jagged Edge Earthquake, something that can actually clear through a breach/ritual etc.

      ​@@AdskyDimon ah my bad, I thought it was full swap. But I think it's only like 20 points or something after reading now, but you can do whatever you want with those extra points. I'm thinking just use sunder or perfect strike for dual wielding 2h on the swap and alter the tree for clear on those while HOG is down (dual wieldig those skills gives about 40% extra damage as it hits with both weapons). Supercharged and Stampede sound pretty bad, even Conner thinks so 😄

    Just curious how u plan on leveling with this setup, but we have respec with gold so prob just doing normal melee until maps ?

      Leveling is only a small part of your overall play experience and is much harder to plan at the moment. We have a reasonable amount of info to create the bones of an endgame build, but we relatively know very little about the details on leveling rewards or damage/defense requirements throughout the campaign so it’s not worth planning much for it. Just do your best as you level to find stuff that’s reasonably strong and grind through it.

      @ If it was 25% less ignite damage then I would agree. But this is hit damage which can result in not igniting a boss with a high ailment threshold at all. It slows clear speed too.

      if im not mistaken, in poe2 fire hits have inherent chance to ignite based on their hit damage in relation to enemy's ailment threshold. Hammer of the gods scales a huge initial hit, and can probably grab a bunch of %increased chance to ignite on the tree

    I would assume the game design we were presented so far, is pretty heavily against oneshotting bosses. We've seen hammer gameplay on bosses, and it wasnt doing all that much. We dont know exact links, but Im assuming those were definitely not supportless skills. I feel like with how much different many aspects of the game are from poe1, its not unreasonable to expect bosses to outive the basic math of "bonk stronk many%"

      @ obviously not your setup, Im just saying that theory on an unreleased early access game is to be taken with a grain lf salt. We know fractions of what we are told about, and theres much more of what we dont know about. Maybe bosses have a hidden mech to not tale more than 30% life in one hit for all we know.

There is no reason at all not to be planning something based on the information we have, because the alternative is to bumble around on your first character with no synergies. Sure, you can still have fun, but a lot of people won’t have fun playing a super weak character.

      If I recall correctly, Jonathon said he doesn't remember the dot cap in Poe2 in his latest interview in South Korea. This implies that the dot cap is still there. It might be a different number depending on the variable size used to record the dot damage, and it's probably also intertwined with server ticks, etc.

    As far as I understood the chance to ignite issn't easy, how exactly will you have a 100% chance to ignite? Imagine you hammer a boss and it did not ignite. And again and again. Or did I miss a crucial part of information here?

      He explains in the vid but the basics are the bigger the hit the higher the chance to inflict ignite. Since the hits are stupid OP it will be 100% ignite.

    Really want to see if i can do a hammer on a chronurgy sorc, lots of int+mana scaling damage with lighting, herald of thunder converting the physical into the scaled lightning + time snap to do it twice in quick succession and can utilise hourglass support effectively and maybe even second wind for 3 (sexond wind on time snap maybe?). Unsure if possible to scale the damage enough, but might be an incredible allrounder and frees up the powerful spell support gems for clearing
    Edit: think I read herald of thunder wrong, but with potentially 3 hammers in quick succession I think this can get scaled pretty effectively
    Edit2: seen avatar of fire (75% of damage as fire, deal no non-fire damage), maybe something similar for lightning? or use avatar of fire on weapon swap passive + other fire scaling passives? feels like sorc can scale its fire damage better

      weapon swap passives cannot allocate keystones so if you take avatar of fire you'll have it all the time
      heralds only convert herald damage and not your own attacks
      also i think it's important to remember that conversion also works differently in poe2 where if you convert 100% phys into fire, only fire damage will scale the damage and any % physical damage will not work

      Resetting the cooldown of the hammer isn’t increasing ignite damage, it would be only a minor damage increase and you would lose all the defensive ascendancy nodes from something like titan.

    Hey POE vets and @ConnerConverse - I'm really interested in the shield skills, but im Very new to POE and im really excited about this game. I really like skills like D4's barb kick, stomp, charge, and leap. I do have practice with character/stat building from other games (Darktide/Vermintide/Diablo3/4 etc.) im not blind, but I don't do math at your level.
    My question is - Would a strong shield (shield skill focused) build be possible? I really like the shield counter, charge and the like; Later I want to focus on shield skills with other weapons like the Flail, Axe and Sword.
    I understand i would probably need a skill like HOTG to back it up though. I appreciate the help anyone can give.

      In poe1 there are builds focusing on "shield crush", I'd assume poe2 will bring back some similar skills but it's hard to tell if they have it in the beginning of EA. For now, you can go to poedb 2 to check the leaked skills and search "shield" to see if there's anything you like.

    Wouldn’t this build be somewhat useless on Maven like fights when you have short alternating phases with a “new” enemy on every phase. Seems like you will be able to quickly go through phase one and wait for the cd on the start of every other phase

      immune phases are a result of players being able to 1 shot every boss, the fights weve seen on poe2 release have no immune phases

      Resetting the cd and scaling hit damage would be a really underwhelming strategy when compared to just scaling the ignite. You can get a lot more bang for your buck scaling a huge ailment rather than scaling a hit on a huge cooldown, even if you’re able to reset that cooldown every ~10s.

      30 spirit for 2 curses is 60 base reservation. It’s just a flat amount per curse, then whatever supports are on it may have cost multipliers to that total base.

      Lack of mana nodes on the tree mostly. There are only a few nodes with increased mana so far and there isn’t a lot of mana recovery available that we know about besides what’s on Chayula monk or doing the gimmicky minion death thing.

      the idea in poe2 is to use multiple skills in combo
      this is a boss build and if it works, you can do massive dmg in one swing.
      and maybe have to wait to do it again but ignite last 12s or so...

      You use a skill that does a lot less damage to kill small things. The long cooldown isn’t much of an issue when one use of the skill kills anything you come across. You just save it for when you find something super tanky and move on with your day.

      you just choose server location by lowest latency, theres no restriction swapping between them like there would be in a game like WoW. there are different game modes like hardcore and softcore, and later on in the game leagues. just pic the regular Softcore league

    i had similiar ideas, HOTG - but i wasnt sure if dot is the right thing, since poe1 treats it so badly. for that reason i was thinking about a crit version.

      You will get a lot more mileage out of scaling a dot than hit damage, considering that a dot can total 10-20x the damage of the hit. The cooldown on the skill makes scaling hit damage really inefficient.

      The idea is that ignite chance scales with the size of your initial hit. 1300% damage effectiveness would probably be one of the highest single hits you can get in the game, so the odds that it’s not 100% chance to ignite are really low.

    how would hammer of the gods work with ancestral totem, will placing the totem and after it casts hammer of the gods, then resummon and replacing the totem bypass the cooldown? I know it works for flamewood totem but I'm not sure if it would work for cooldown skills. if it does its probably broken

    It looks like a cool build but I am concerned if it's enough to rely on hammer being up for every or even most rare packs. I know supercharged slam is there as backup, but you make it sound like those situations are somewhat rare and anomalous. Seems more likely to me that you'll see a second rare pack before the 24 sec CD is up (minus whatever CDR from tree). Especially since regular maps don't have a boss, it makes me suspect that there's gonna be slightly more rares on average to compensate.
    Maybe for non-bossing setups, you move one damage link from hammer to supercharged, and replace the empty slot on hammer with reduced CDR.

      It will probably be really rare to encounter a mob regularly in maps that requires doing even 1/4th of a boss’ hp.
      You’d have to be mega juicing to scale rares up that big or bigger, and at that point in the game you probably are on your 2nd or 3rd build which will have more damage than this.

      No shock is a flat 30% in poe2 and harder hits increase this chance. There are both skills and supports that seem to give flat shock chance however so I used both to be safe

      You would be getting a fraction of the damage than you would just playing it as a dot. You can’t get the cooldown resets short enough to compete with a dot, unless you’re hitting at the very least once per 1-2 seconds.

      It’s not really necessary. You’d prefer an ascendancy that gives you more proper defenses, not to mention that chronometer is on the wrong side of the tree for an attack build like this.

    I think all these build makers are assuming they can solve stat requirements for all their gear and lvl 20 gems in every attribute, which seems unlikely. Maybe some combos are strong enough to support partially leveled gems if the gems are that good at low levels, but it's still too early to tell I think.
