I have been using Chronomancer (its why I picked sorceress first) and have mainly just been doing temporal rift. I spam fusillade, lightning warp in, then lightning warp around, and shift back. It is a lot of fun. Your points are all fair, however.
The chronomancer may not be that defensive on paper, but that slow and time spell save you from one shots much better than mitigation with how bosses track you during skills
The only thing I can think of right now that is interesting for Chronomancer is a Hexblast build. Utilize the 20% slow + temporal rift + chill see just how slow you can make everything. Which also just makes me wish it had any form of DoT manipulation support as that is a perfect area for time based shenanigans.
I'll continue to sleep on Darkness aspect, No reservations for 600 (at lvl100) Ward, and up to 30% Damage as extra chaos (at lvl100) whereas waking dream is 7-14% DaE chaos PER purple flame up to 70-140%
@@whydidyoutubeaddthis its hard to say if darkness is actually bad because we don't really know how auras are going to be or what life totals are going to look like in poe2. We know for example that damage numbers players do are going to be smaller. On a relatively low numbers scale darkness could actually be a decent chunk of ehp and there may be mechanics to avoid reserving darkness on getting hits to make the successive nodes more valuable
Thanks a lot for the analysis and please keep the long format it's great! It was very helpful, Chronomancer is still looking interesting to me, but I will probably start with Blood Mage for a first character to learn the game and then go to Chronomancer. The ascendancy still looks strong but needing more knowledge of the mechanics to really build around.
There will likely be some mana stack chonk build with mind over matter and chaos inoculation that makes Embrace the Darkness and Grasp of the Void work. It will also need instant mana leech though so you won't be able to take into the breach and double effect
Hopefully they can fix the Infernalist Demon Form bug soon. Will play demon lady anyway, but having some more damage would be nice for surviving Endgame.
Personally hyped for Chrono, I think all of the nodes are pretty cool and have uses. The only awkward one for me is 7, I kinda wish it was Bloodmage’s 7 instead. So you lose life over 4 seconds rather than regen. I think it would be cool to get hit with enough damage to kill you, but you have 4 seconds to jump back and reset your health. I feel like recouping health is meaningless if you have the ability to go back to when it was full. But other than that it looks super interesting, sparks that creative mindset.
I'm glad to see someone else see the insane life stacking possible with Blood Mage. Depending on how the EA talent tree looks, I might roll her into a strength stacking melee, but otherwise I still have a failsafe starter with spells. I really want high defensives so I can see as much as the endgame as possible.
chonk note. Most people say flames give damage as extra chaos, but it does not read extra. It may just convert to chaos, but gives extra only when over 100%
Chronomancer looks like the kind of class that very few people can make the most out of. But the few who do would dominate the game. The complexity and skill ceiling looks so high
Yeah that could happen, but in endgame every class will be doing bonkers stuff whether it be single target dmg, aoe, not dying, etc. but this class is just the hardest to work around for in that aspect. Why waste your time making it harder on yourself when all the other classes get similar or same results with a lot less headaches, yk.
gemmling legionare has the strongest node in my oppinion you can use every support gem 2 times will bring more multiplyer to the table and combined with duration abitilys you can greatly benefit.
Got a little nervous when I saw how short the Gemling legionaire synopsis was, haha. Just ascended and chose that today. Just seemed unique and different than going with the obvious withhunter. I'll figure it out as I go. Playing mercenary and doing more of a bow / ranger build.
chonk note. Node 4 may be op with poison. If you can hit many x a second with all hits applying poison it will only come from the bigger hits, giving more chance to get big poisons with this node and removing the downside of unlucky rolls
i think a thing you missed with stormweaver is that it says "Triggers Elemental Storm **on Critical Hit** with Spells", so it WOULD be for crit builds specifically
I think nearly everybody is underrating the 30% less move speed penalty node. I would not be surprised if it is one of the strongest nodes in the game. PoE2 is much more positional than the first game and that node will give you additional uptime on your DPS while making it easier to dodge and avoid getting trapped at the same time. I'll be starting a shotgun MS Pathfinder and I bet it's going to feel amazing. (Plus since projectiles can individually crit I might go into on-crit as well because the shotguns have 10 projectiles AKA 10 chances to crit per attack.)
I love these lists. We don't know what the real passive tree even looks like at this point, we don't know about any of the uniques and we don't know how strong the rares are gonna get. So who knows what's gonna be strong lol
I'm level 17 and already have 70% evasion on my Monk xD its awesome to play too once you get Tempest flurry(I think is the name) and pair it with the Storm Bell.
Curse duration on Blood Mage definitely feels weird, maybe like a blasphemy setup where you just allow yourself to forever-auto-curse and forget? I dunno
You are really undervaluing chronomancer. Now we know about the small nodes and most of them they are 10% reduced debuff duration. Temp rift is like a 100% refill of mana if used aggresively. The AoE slow + recoup is pretty good if you dont want to mess with temp rift and time stop. And the skill reset requires some math. For skills that have naturally 2 cooldowns supported with second wind you get 4 cooldown uses, combining with time snap and the 33% chance to reset ANY SKILL, the possible skill uses follow a Poisson distribution. The most likely outcome is 10 damage skill uses (scenario where you use time snap doesnt proc a reset, and the damage skill procs twice). The 2nd most likely is 11 skill uses. The 8-12 skill uses interval has a 62 ish % chance to happen, a 32 ish % chance to land a "mid roll" of 12 to 24 skill uses and 5% chance to highroll in a stupid way (more than 24 times). The chance of additional skill uses exponentially decreases from there, you would get a 1 in a 7million chance to hit 100 skill uses (aka winning the lottery). I've run some numerical simulations to calculate this. If you played WoW fire mage post wotlk, there is a talent called hot streak that makes a very hard hitting pyroblast to be instant if you crit twice in a row, accounting for a 35% crit chance you have about a 13% chance to highroll and this is solid enough (further expansions gives you guaranteed crits that help this mechanic). If you dump all the fat damage supports with second wind on a skill with 2 natural cooldowns, Chronomancer is mathematically on par with the fire mage with some guaranteed crits. TLDR This is going to feel like a wow fire mage and it's going to be crazy.
Hyped to play Invoker. I don't know if Wild Strike is in the game, but this sort of trinity melee thing is my jam. Sadly I won't be able to join you on stream, but I hope you have a good launch.
That and the only chronomancy reference is the ascendancy itself.. there’s no chronomancy skills or attacks which was what disappointed me. I don’t want to have to use lightning or something to visually stay thematic. I want actual time and space based attacks and teleports etc. that or time bombs or something.
They need to give free ascendacy change when they release more of them. I can't make an infored decision on what to play before something is even released...
everyone shitting on chronomancer but I guarantee someone out there will be posting a build video within a week or two showing it's actually an insane class. i want to play it for theme alone i just don't think I'm smart enough to figure it out so it'll have to be a second or third character once people better than me fine tune it.
I'd like to add what I heard on the dozens of podcast Jonathan did with the community : - Hulking form will not scale travel nodes as they are not small passives, they are travel nodes. - 10% of leech on spells is incredibly powerful, it's very rare to get spell leech in POE2, Dreamcore explained how leech is done in POE2 and it's suggested in Dreamcore's video to be in only 1 second so really fast and with 10% you'll get enough of it to not worry about monster leech resistance (scaled by monster level). - Demon form is only level 7 on the referenced image, +4 to spell levels, 16% cast speed and "10% increased spell damage per stack of demon flame", it's easy to assume it's going to be way stronger than that at higher levels. Of course all of this may change as EA starts.
Are the attribute passives what you mean by travel nodes? I was really thinking about doing some very stupid hulking form stat stacker build and that keystone not increasing the attributes gained would be a huge bummer
@@CoffeeisBeanSoup i disagree with the op, i dont think its clear whether the travel nodes will be affected or not. travel nodes is just generic terminology in poe 1 for "not cluster" nodes. they ARE small nodes with everything that exists in poe 1 that affects small nodes. i dont believe johnathan ever specifically mentioned hulking form because it was only just shown. by all means, link me proof. i just dont think thats the case.

@@Attention80 Yeah, I think it is strange to assume that Hulking Form won't affect them. As others have mentioned, they are considered small passives by anything that affects small passives in PoE.
I feel the same about Chronomancer. Time manipulation is my favorite power fantasy but they did not implement it well, though tbf idk how any game could really do it justice
34:50 Regarding the spread of one Poison, stacking Number og Posions and Rares: Doesn't this mean that the time of Stacking on Rares is much faster. Let's assume the Rare is grouped by x Enemies, which are killed with one Poison and die. Now the Rare got instantly x+1 Posions on him up to maximum of Stacks. If x is equal maximum possible Stacks -1 or more, you can hit maximum Posion Stacks on Rare with one Poison on Group.
On warcaller, you said you can 4x the % life that is done with the explosion to make it 100% of life as damage. How would you do that?! I don’t think you can support passive ascendancy points
There are war-cry scaling nodes for every time you use a war-cry it increases dmg done from all sources. Witch mean after a couple war-crys it will be 25% - x - what ever you %gain dmg is. So it will take that 25% to 40% 60% 100% so with in 4 war-crys you are att 100% and there is no top end to it so they may fix that node or leave it as a crazy ramp dmg.
Chronomancer going to feel like black mage in FFXIV. Sometimes you get chain thunder/firaga procs and the dps is absolutely nutters. Sometimes you don't get the procs and you really could be doing something else to get the damage and not be working so hard.
I feel the chronomancer could easily be made more enjoyable and keep the same idea behind its nodes. The cast speed buff every 12 seconds could boost X next casts and stay active until you cast them so even if it's cyclical you can still use the timing to your advantage more easily and it would be a cute way to always be super fast as your opener as well. Likewise, the 33% chance not to trigger a CD could simply be every third CD isn't used or something alonge these lines. In average you still have the same effect but you have a lot more agency over the bonus. (This iteration would be too op as you could cast 2 super short CD first and then you super long one and do that infinitely, but I'm sure GGG could find a way, or simply make it every 3 times you cast the same skill it doesn't trigger its CD phase or something like that). As hyped as I am for the game I really wished they had improved the HUD and the loot filter situation over PoE1. Having your resources and CDs stuck very small in the corner of the screen is just objectively bad no human can keep track of it and the action at the same time and feel comfortable, even experts. There are good reasons why everybody and their mother are trying to get rid of all mana issues and the like, if the HUD was feedbacking mana and CDs more comfortably it would feel a lot less frustrating.
This is in early access for a year, thinks are going to change a bunch. What is broken they will fix, what is weak will get buffs, some too strong for there design will be weakened. Ontop of this you can mix class skills or weapons, and passive. I think it's better you play your character you want to roleplay, versus worry if it's strong enough. Then play with all the systems to make her strong.
Several people have said that the 50% small passive buff wouldn't affect attribute highway stuff. If that is true, would you change your rating of that passive?
Is anyone else having an issue with POE2 crashing to desktop with no error? It happens on loading screens the most. I had the same issue in POE and I've tried various fixes I found on the internet, but I still cannot play without having these crashes.
I havent done a ton of research, but i was planning on going 2h/shield because i like not dying, plus the bonks seem real bigly in 2. My roommate is starting gunnerman and we plan to coop the whole way through
Assuming you’re no better at dodging their hits, yes. But them being slower probably does mean that you’ll be able to exceed a 20% reduction in damage taken from them if you play well :)
What if recoup on the skilltree is very powerful, like it is one of the better ways to get sustain, and making it over 4 seconds instead of 10 is busted?
With all these nodes and interactions all the skills will have I hope they make multiplayer much more accessible or easy to participate in. I have like 15K hours in PoE and like 13K of it is 100% solo. I would like both to be somethign you can just jump into.
Bruh the chronomancer abilities are infinitely cooler time manupulation than the gimmick you describe "snatching their souls in time to dral damage over time" thats just a bleed with extra steps
Before I watched this I was gonna go witch hunter, or maybe switch to bloodmage last minute. I still feel the same way now, it seems like your going to need newr perfect gear to sustain the blood mage during boss fights just like I suspected.
I have been agonizing over whether I want to start Blood Mage or Storm Weaver for days and now I kind of want to start Evoker if the Evasion to Phys DR works as it reads

You could do a video about your previous expectations vs yout actual knowledge about the ascendancys, i’d love to know!
Just wanted to say that i have been having a blast playing acolyte of chayula monk, damage feels amazing, and the chaos res, and energy shield leech is top tier QoL(Currently tier 8 maps). Also great vid sub!
Are you going tempest bell? or purely chaos spells?
Thanks pal, really like how you present the content. Appreciate it!
I’m a simple woman. I see pathfinder, I play pathfinder.
I’ve been thinking this so hard. Maybe blood magic + your preferred concoction so we never need our mana flask?
Probably playing stormweaver soceress though.
You don't want to try one of the totally new classes? I'm simple too but I gotta try merc lol
Im between stormbringer, invoker and hammer bonker titan,my plan is to play a more accessible class to learn the game first and then try to deviate and see what i can do.
based. I'll find how well I can sustain a handful of strong poisons. curious to see numbers on the concoctions, explosive concoction and gas arrow maybe?
@ I’m trying nodes 2+4 first. Might pivot to a concoction of some sort but they do seem quite point hungry to play. Will soon see!
I'm playing blood mage because it honestly just sounds really badass. I've always love the theme of sacrificing life for power. Like Warlocks in WoW or the Blood Mages in Dragon Age.
I have been using Chronomancer (its why I picked sorceress first) and have mainly just been doing temporal rift. I spam fusillade, lightning warp in, then lightning warp around, and shift back. It is a lot of fun.
Your points are all fair, however.
Lol damn I was just looking up your channel to see if you had anything. Nice vid!
The chronomancer may not be that defensive on paper, but that slow and time spell save you from one shots much better than mitigation with how bosses track you during skills
Ignite Hammer of Gods Chomomancer may be neat.
Some tool to make DoT tick fasters on ennemies would be very fitting.
“Very quick” hour fifteen min vid 👍 I’m in
I'm not sure yet if I'm going to be able to play this game but if I did, blood mage sounds right up my alley
im really hoping they add a witch ascendancy thats based around curses and chaos damage
You're the first person I've seen explain Darkness on the CHONK.
Yeah cause it is probably bad lol
Great video!
Looking forward to your analysis. I love hearing your thoughts on things.
Reallly Hyped to jump in. Took the day off hopefully server issue's are minimal. Hope everyone has a blast
Good to see such a range of opinions from content creators. Watched 6 different ones and everyone's opinion different. Thats really good.
Just means none of them actually know what they are talking about
@@justin9744 how should they? It's just opinions and no one knows any numbers.
Agree at titan and bloodmage. Both looks amazing and easy to build almost all sort of stuff with them.
Hopefully they can fix the Infernalist Demon Form bug soon. Will play demon lady anyway, but having some more damage would be nice for surviving Endgame.
I was so excited for Chronomancer until the details dropped. Now I’m on the blood mage train.
It may just convert to chaos, but gives extra only when over 100%
No, PoE 2 has different wording, "gain % damage as" is the same as the old "gain as extra". Avatar of fire says "75% of damage converted to fire"
MoM + instant leech+ the unreserved darkness nodes on CHONK will be ridiculous, that's my prediction.
this is objectively correct and very similar to my tierlist, hence I approve!
If you can hit many x a second with all hits applying poison it will only come from the bigger hits, giving more chance to get big poisons with this node and removing the downside of unlucky rolls
good stuff mate! I still undecided lol. As usual for every league.
Great video (if a little long haha)! I believe Jonathan has confirmed that "Overflow" in poe2 means double in all contexts that it appears
I don't think Deadeye needed any changes really. It was a solid class, and a good reccomendation for beginners.
@ Bloodmage. Did you just ASSUME... Amazing Vid. Thank you. I'm looking forward to future Videos.
i think a thing you missed with stormweaver is that it says "Triggers Elemental Storm **on Critical Hit** with Spells", so it WOULD be for crit builds specifically
So who knows what's gonna be strong lol
read the pinned comment
I'm level 17 and already have 70% evasion on my Monk xD its awesome to play too once you get Tempest flurry(I think is the name) and pair it with the Storm Bell.
BLOODMAGE AT S TIER IS COMICAL LMAO
This man was soooo wrong lol.
Jonathan has just said GGG have passed 1million keys issued. Expect long queues and server issues.
I’m going stormweaver first toon then blood mage. Thanks for your content sub!
Hyped to play Invoker. I don't know if Wild Strike is in the game, but this sort of trinity melee thing is my jam. Sadly I won't be able to join you on stream, but I hope you have a good launch.
Enduring elixer is worse because flasks are inherantly worse that it doesnt need the 50% penalty ... but in terms of poe2 world it has value
Blood Mage stacking max life and reserve it to get Pain Attunement then gain huge ES buffer from Crimson Power seems kinda OP.
its crit damage scale with existing life not max life so we cant utilize pain attunement
I like your theories on time manipulation
Great content! Thanks!
So what I'm hearing is that chronomancer is for gamblers (winners)
I see literally NO ONE talking about playing witchhunter to naturally I am going to start there. Screen wide explodey grenades= dopamine
Thank you for this it was super helpful! However I still can’t decide between invoker and witch hunter 😂
That and the only chronomancy reference is the ascendancy itself.. there’s no chronomancy skills or attacks which was what disappointed me. I don’t want to have to use lightning or something to visually stay thematic. I want actual time and space based attacks and teleports etc. that or time bombs or something.
Chonk seems really interesting but darkness might need some tweaks
What do u think about Deadeye playin with crossbow as pseudo marcenary? Feels like better merc? Will it not outperform witchhunter?
They need to give free ascendacy change when they release more of them. I can't make an infored decision on what to play before something is even released...
everyone shitting on chronomancer but I guarantee someone out there will be posting a build video within a week or two showing it's actually an insane class. i want to play it for theme alone i just don't think I'm smart enough to figure it out so it'll have to be a second or third character once people better than me fine tune it.
I'd like to add what I heard on the dozens of podcast Jonathan did with the community :
- Hulking form will not scale travel nodes as they are not small passives, they are travel nodes.
@@Tehblood Streamers disagree on this, Jungroan thinks they won't, Palsteron thinks they will. We just don't know until we try, but I wouln't count on it.
ua-cam.com/video/_A44firEy_g/v-deo.html 12:05
@@Tehblood Probably just gonna go through with it to test anyways, if it bricks my build, oh well, lesson learned, move on to the next
If x is equal maximum possible Stacks -1 or more, you can hit maximum Posion Stacks on Rare with one Poison on Group.
my goal is just make a character that is so tanky it doesn't have to move or dodge anything
I want to try doing that with blood mage!🩸💉
a thorns titan enjoyer.
Great point…I’m the same.
@@chrisditomasso5624so original.
When you figure it out let us know
On warcaller, you said you can 4x the % life that is done with the explosion to make it 100% of life as damage.
Overflow of the blood witch is 200% :) definitely my pick
54:55 Should it not be 15 Seconds instead of 20 in your exmaple? 10 seconds, then less 50 %, so plus 5 is 15. Or do I understand the skill wrong?
Before watching: Let's see how wrong Subtractum is going to be about Infernalist
My roommate is starting gunnerman and we plan to coop the whole way through
Does 20% perma slow from chrono basically mean enemies deal 20% less damage cause they move and attack slower?
Over time yes but it doesn't change the size of their hits.
Is hellhound's 20% of hits taken before or after your mitigation? Do we know?
You better be ready, Sub! It's almost tiiiiime! 😁
i think chronomancer is going to be one of my favorite ones actually, but i played a void knight in last epoch a lot so maybe i am biased.
Bruh the chronomancer abilities are infinitely cooler time manupulation than the gimmick you describe "snatching their souls in time to dral damage over time" thats just a bleed with extra steps
Ill only have 18 more hours to wait after this video 😊
Isn't the darkness mechanic from CHONK just shitty ES?
Before I watched this I was gonna go witch hunter, or maybe switch to bloodmage last minute. I still feel the same way now, it seems like your going to need newr perfect gear to sustain the blood mage during boss fights just like I suspected.
I have been agonizing over whether I want to start Blood Mage or Storm Weaver for days and now I kind of want to start Evoker if the Evasion to Phys DR works as it reads
Chronomancer COULD end up being good, i dont think it will BUT imagine the uniques they could have for it! " 50% crit chance during time freeze" or anything creative and awesome like that
