DO NOT AREATE YOUR LAWN WHEN YOU OVER SEED - Do This Instead

- When it comes to aeration and overseeding please do this piece correctly and with knowledge. What is aeration primarily used for? Compaction and Drainage issues. How do you fix compaction and drainage issues? If you’re going to aerate, please add and organic material into your soil to actually change your composition of your soil …. Instead of just aerating and letting it just fill back in with the same EXACT SOIL…. Sigh…

The idea for aeration comes from pro golf courses where golf carts and heavy mowers are compressing the ground each day. Homeowners do not have soil compressing issues. You’re right !
Great video that’s how I do it with my Sunjoe . Haven’t aerated in 7 years have a great weekend
And might we add… his lawn looks phenomenal 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

Great Video, quick question I don’t have thatch problem, do I still need to use the Sunjoe scarifier attachment or just use the tine attachment to open of the canopy for better seed to soil contact?
If it’s below 1/4 of an inch, do not stress it. The scarifier attachment is meant to take a thick lawn, that is chocking out it’s own self as it’s very healthy and rips grass plants out at the soil level 1/8-1/4” deep. Most people don’t over seed this as it’s not an issue to fix. It just needs to be thinned out.
With better seed to soil contact, if you want that… dethatching does a far superior job, but if your not having thatch issues, nothing is needed for this step. 👍🏼 just seed, put a top dress over it in bare areas and water correctly.
@@TheGreenerLawn thank you so much Sir!!
@@caprisingh7793 any time my friend.
Okay so I have drainage issues and compaction issues should I aerate ?
Yup, and use a material over the top of the holes, to fill them in. OR ELSE, your regular soil will fill it back in and you will be at square 1 again. If you’re going to address the issue, fix it all in one. That way your seed will have a good soil bed to sit in as well as filling holes!
@@TheGreenerLawn ok great thank you very much
Just killed off whole lawn with glysophate I've got it down to bare dirt I'm on long island planting kgb mix should I aerate then push around some sand mixed in with the loose soil to fill in holes ? And to level out some ruts ?
Only have a handful of spots with compaction. Issues but would it be beneficial to the whole lawn ?
So you said two key pieces for actual aeration 💯, you do suffer from compaction and since your going to do it your going to spread a material that will change the soil structure and not just let the same soil go back in and create the same situation. That sand level at that point is awesome. You will like your results!
@TheGreenerLawn ok awesome thanks for responding so soon appreciate it love your videos !! Is there a certain sand I should be using 🤔
Sorry just saw this masonry sand with compost is awesome. gourmet scenery sandwich topsoil that's loam
