If you want to save a bit of money, you could opt to make more than one change. It likely wouldn't take much longer than the journey shown in the video the only difference being you'd spend a lot less longer on any given train.
Just a little bit of info to correct. Top speed for the portion of the trip between Frankfurt and Paris is actually 320km/h (199mph) as opposed to the 300km/h (186mph) stated in the video.

Dylan, I just realised that the first portion of the trip from Vienna to Frankfurt on the DB ICE train is literally the same video from 4 weeks ago.
Edit: 5:10 Never mind, you already mentioned it in the end card. Apologies, because I originally got a bit confused when I first watched this.
Are you able to travel again?
I like the 'how to' version and that you still manage to include the bike spaces for us cyclists, always appreciated. Cheers Tim.
Thanks!
That blinking light (17:25) would drive me crazy.
It gives a creepy ambiance lol.
I love how train travel is so prevalent in Europe. It has truly dropped off here in the States and is getting even less with the newest CEO of Amtrak.
It is still not that prevalent. More people fly or drive.
@@jb0609 Compered to the US it is. The US had about 27 Billion passenger kilometer, where Europe had about 418 billion passenger kilometers. That's over 15 times the amount.
Wish We Had Something Like This In The United States
Jason Young in 2021 Aveila Liberty is going to be 210 mph
@@dr.rajarshiraha6627 No it won't. Yes the train is capable of going 210 mph but your (i am sorry) shitty infrastructure will only make about 150mph possible and that is only on a few sections of the north east corridor.
Upstairs seats on the train...... how cool is that!! We can only dream of something like that here in Blighty.
Love ur content so much I watch almost every train vid keep it up
Thanks! Will do!
vienna to paris. youre good in giving us infos about travelling in Europe by train. thanks again
Out of all the travel content out there, I really appreciate your style. Thank you so much. ❤
Thanks 😁
The video in tis trip report is some of the best I have seen. The camera is steady, the comments are just long enough, and the are on screen long enough for you to get the information and not miss the things happening around you.
Thanks 😁
Would be cool to see a trip between London to Barcelona in this style. It's a journey I'm hoping to make next year myself. Will be Glasgow to Barcelona, but I'm used the journey between Glasgow and London. Just need to decide if it'll be a 8h sleeper, or 4h Avanti plus cheap hotel in London. Thinking it'll be Eurostar to Paris or Lyon, then TGC/AVE from either of them BCN.
The sleeper is cheaper because you don’t have to pay for a hotel room which may be expensive
@@dr.rajarshiraha6627 As of February Sleeper prices had skyrocketed, me and my dad could no longer get value for our money from London to Dundee, so we ended up flying to Edinburgh, and getting a train from Haymarket. If this is still the case, which I would not be surprised if it was, considering the pandemic, then Sleeper travel will probably not be a viable option, it may be cheaper to spend 1 night in a Travelodge in London.
Hi Dylan! Wow, I'm really enjoying your, how to travel long distance by train series. It's so informative...it is making me excited at the prospect of travelling again! The train stations in Europe are so elegant! I like the look and feel of the cafe car on the inOui train. Throw in a disco ball, some strobe lights....instant party place 😆. Your vids are fantastic and this one is no different. Thanks for sharing Dylan and I can't wait for next Friday's episode! See you then!
Thanks! See you next Friday 😁
Well hello----I'm sitting here watching some of your videos, having a cup of Twinings Lemon Ginger tea in my new mug that just arrived in the mail today. Makes the journey so much more enjoyable ! Love the picture too !
Thanks! Enjoy!
I found your Amtrak New York to Los Angeles in a Roomette video in the middle of the night during quarantine (thank you, all mysterious UA-cam recommendations), and it was so relaxing and strangely engrossing despite the fact that I have no real interest in trains, hehe. I've watched more of your videos here and there but I only decided to subscribe now. Looking forward to more, and please stay safe out there!
Thanks! I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed 😁
Nice video, I especially like how you did a step by step guide on how to purchase tickets. I'm definitely going to bing all of your videos today haha
Thanks! Enjoy!
I've recently done this journey and agree entirely with your review. If you have the time, it's a comfortable and relaxed way to travel from Vienna to Paris as well as being ecologically friendy.
Hi Dylan, what a amazing video. That ride is an adventure, isn't it. We have been in Vienna in February 2020. We took the night jet from Hamburg to Vienna.
The flashing light would have done my head in...
A few years ago (Before TGV East of France in 2007), it was 2 daily non stop trains per day between Vienna and Paris: Eurocity Mozart for the day travel (with OBB coches) and the Orient Express for night trip (continuation to Budapest if I remember correctly). A rumor say that Nightjet will operate to Paris in the future... hope they will do !!
I hope Nightjet do start operating to Paris. I think they are also starting operating to Brussels as well.
@@DylansTravelReports OEBB Nightjet started Vienna-Brussels. After suspending the service during lockdown it has now restarted. Nightjet was planning to go to Amsterdam but that route will doubtless be delayed because of Covid. The boss of OEBB wants to have a Vienna-Paris service. It may happen but, like Flixtrain, OEBB is unhappy with the infrastructure costs within France which are costly.
Better to extend one TGV/ICE service from Munich to Vienna just like the EC Mozart.
@@rdrogel Can the TGV cope with Austria's rail infrastructure ? That's something to bear in mind.
@@alexmcwhirter6611 Maybe ICE can do the trip from Paris to Vienna.
Your video is a medicine for me who longing to travel across countries. Thank you, it was a great video and journey! I think everything seems almost normal there, unlike here in Asia. Can't wait to see another overland train trip of yours.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed 😁
Another great video. Can't wait to be travelling again!
Thanks!
Good job, Dylan. Please stay safe.
Thanks. Stay safe.
Hi Dylan Thank you for the video!!! I really enjoyed it!!! See you next Friday!!! Have a safe trip!!! 👍
Thanks! See you next Friday!
Thanks man. Again a very good video. It will really help those who are on their europe tour.
Thanks!
Nice one, Dylan.
Thanks!
Great channel. Really liking your films.
Thanks!
Mega video again, Dylan! brilliant! cheers.
Thanks!
Wonderful Compilation
Thanks!
Woohoo oh boy do I like watching dylan travel
Thanks!
Thank you for the video.
GREAT VIDEO! What a shame Amtrak can't copy what is done in Europe. It is about 50 years between. Again, great video
Love ur videos
Thanks!
The common areas and transitions between cars seem very pleasant on the DB train. Super nice club car. I also like to keep my things nearby, if possible, not in the vestibule, and the DB trained seemed to have more near-to-seat storage (yes, I'm paranoid about someone stealing my bag, even though it gas *never, ever* happened!)
The lighting on the SNCF seemed super harsh and that just got worse as the day grew darker! Their club car doesn't look like a place I'd want to spend too much time.
Great post! 👍
Thanks! Yes I always like to keep an eye on my bags as well.
I didn't see a problem with the club car's lighting, Marcel.
Your a good looking dude, love your videos.
It's a ten from Len for this one Dylan. The ICE train looks a lot more comfortable than the TGV. That flickering light would have fried my little brain. Keep safe and take care.
Thanks! Personally, I think the TGV was more comfortable but the ICE had a much better "ambience". Take care!
@@DylansTravelReports you only liked the TGV more because of all the mirrors to wave at lol
@@andrewdales8136 lol
Another great video !!
Thanks!
You can also make a separate seat reservation with OBB if you travel from Vienna to Frankfurt, cost is 3 euro. You don't have to buy a ticket to do that.
That's true, I didn't think of that.
I like you video very nice
Thanks!
Just subscribed to your channel! I find this video format really cool. It portrays the genuine experience of travel and keeps it super interesting. It would be nice to see a journey ending or starting in Lisbon (western tip of Europe)! Thanks!
Thanks! I would like to do more trips down Portugal and Spain way once restrictions allow for it.
Once did Euston to Barcelona 80quid and no ticket checks, Ticket was valid for 3 months! So could have done it again. Enjoying your films..
Bargin!

Very nice concept showing how to go from Vienna to Paris via frankfurt as you say might be alot longer by plane but at least its civilised and you get comfort aswell
Also one other thing is frankfurt main called that name because there's another frankfurt in Eastern Germany on the border with Poland as to not confuse the names with passangers and everyone else
Thanks! Yes they Main part comes from the river on which it is situated.
German speaking Europe uses the same linguistic building blocks to name their cities a lot. Look up how many towns are named "Neustadt" (New City). The additions on the end are extremely necessary to know which one is which. Technically its Frankfurt am Main (Frankfurt on the Main). the other Frankfurt used to be called Frankfurt an der Oder, but the East Germans dropped the "an der" and its official name is now just Frankfurt (Oder). One of the strangest name shortenings is the the town of Hann. Münden, where the dot is an official part of the name. It was originally called just "Münden", which along with variations like Minden, Gmünd, Gemunden, etc, means mouths of a river, like the Welsh "Aber". It was consistently confused with other towns, so they added "Hannoversch" to the name as it was part of the kingdom of Hannover. That didn't fit on railway tickets so just "Hann. Münden" was printed. Finally in 2006, the town council said "what the heck" and officially changed the name to "Hann. Münden" since it isn't really near Hannover at all and the Kingdom of Hannover ceased to exist in 1866.
wow, what a nice trip! thanks for sharing us.
Weird to see the Frankfurt train station after 40 years! I used to work there when I was in the American military!
Hey! I love yours videos, so fantastic! 👍🏻
Thank you so much 😀
Kudo's Dylan! Always love your videos!! It just blows my mind that we can’t get our act together as the richest Country on earth and have high speed rail going from Coast to Coast in America. Honestly, the U.S. has lost it's shine to me. I wish I had stayed in Central Europe in Bratislava. I was literally only a 40 min train ride to Vienna! I miss it...a LOT! If someone gave me the chance to get out of the U.S. right now, I would! In a heartbeat. Europe is where it's at. I know that, have for a long time. Thanks again for these awesome videos Sir! 👍😛😊
"It just blows my mind that we can get our act together as the Richest Country on earth and have high speed rail going from Coast to Coast in America."
I like trains as well, but it infuriates me that railfans consistently lack the ability to have any critical thought when it comes to HSR.
This journey for example makes no sense to take the train. A flight takes 2 hours and costs less. And that is the issue with HSR, in America, the line between short enough to drive or long enough to fly is so close that HSR has very limited options to exist.
And HSR across the continent is simply ridiculous.
And railfans never seem to consider the immense cost of HSR.
Thanks 😁
Owen Major I agree with your very valid points. But IF we had started years ago, we could have had networks going from smaller metro areas such as Sacramento to Reno, then Reno to Boise, Boise to Denver. These would have been far smarter than the Carbon footprint of flying from Boise to Denver. Unless you’re flying from a major hub to major hub or Metro, flying is NOT cheaper than rail. When I was in Bratislava, I could buy a Train ticket from Vienna to Rome for 15 Euros! To fly that same route was 120 Euros. So don’t be too infuriated my friend, because the Petroleum industry clearly has you drinking their Kool-Aid 😃😛
@@TheStoneWhisperer What are the passenger numbers for the routes you are suggesting and what percentage would take the train? Then what is a rough cost estimate for building and maintaining HSR for said routes?
Rough numbers are fine. I want to see your math on how to justify the expense to provide a redundant mode of transport.
Vienna to Rome is 20 Euro on our favorite Irish airline. It is less than a 2 hour flight. Taking the train takes how long?
Europe isn't N. America. Different demographics, different geography.
Owen Major my point exactly. IF years ago we took a different route to solve commuting & transportation concerns we could be where Europe is. But we chose a different route. Too bad....
Well done on 30.5k subs
I like your channel, because no useless chat with appropriate subtitle.
Thanks!
Great video, thanks.
Thanks!
Thanks for showing the accessible toilet. If I can find an affordable way to get from the states to Europe without flying, my fiancé who's in a wheelchair would love to travel Europe via train. Hopefully, not too many routes have tunnels, he's cluster phobic.
Homage to Euston - the green stone on the floor of Wein HBF
Wien Hbf is very similar to Berlin, used it many times to Hamburg. I like the way they are designed, more like an airport. Cool how the ICE tilts 8
degrees to allow higher speed`s on a bend. The UK had a tilting train, that would s
If you look at them from above there are little differences. In Vienna the platforms are very windy and cold during wintertime, but it looks stylish
Firstttt! Loving the videos!
That was a great trip.! I wish you would sit down in the cafe cars and have a proper meal to show us what the food is like?
Impressive! I'm very impressed how clean and modern the trains are, including the stations. By the way......who does your nails? They look very manicured =)
Double High-speed train trip. ICE between Vienna to Frankfurt and then TGV from Frankfurt to Paris. For me, previous blue TGV livery is my favourite rather than InOui livery. Next, how about making a trip using sleeper train in Europe again, especially Basel - Berlin - Hamburg route or Koln - Vienna route? Or taking rail-ferry Rome - Sicilly route.
Yes more sleeper trains coming. As I am writing this response, I'm on the Milan to Palermo sleeper 😁
Dylan's night trains only please !🤩😄😬🙁
Please also make a video on Swiss trains. Specially on Bernina Express. 😊
This route would be a good candidate for an overnight sleeping car train. a 12 hour trip is just about perfect for a full-night's sleep and breakfast before arrival. Say 2100 to 0900.
I agree! Maybe a future Nightjet? 🤞
Agree with that. Especially Nightjet using Doubledeck Sleeper.
It's 12hrs with dedicated high speed trains. A sleeper train would be a lot slower.
@@ninasiddle8569 At least an hour could be saved if it was a single-train trip, without having to change trains. A typical overnight train in the U. S. is usually 14 to 16 hours, leaves around dinner time and gets to it's destination mid-morning, allowing for passengers to enjoy dinner and breakfast on-board, if the food service is good enough. I still think it would be a good candidate for an overnight train, I mean it would connect two major European capitals, there certainly would be ridership for a service like that.
Train from Vienna to Frankfurt and vice versa is pretty great thanks to the ICE
now there is a sleeper train between each
Enjoyed the ride Dylan. I preferred the ICE myself it just seemed more inviting. The TGV also had a few obvious problems, restroom door not locking, flourescent
light flashing on/off. Don't know if anyone ever suggested, but would it be possible to see what food offerings the restaurant cars have on these trains ? I'm interested because the U.S. trains are cutting back on food service and serving pre-packaged horrible stuff instead of the real diner service we used to get. I notice the younger passengers bringing their own food in backpacks. Just a suggestion, your videos are great.
Thanks! I personally prefer to avoid forking out on expensive food from café/restaurant cars; my advice is usually to bring your own food (unless there's food included in the price of your ticket of course.)
I try to avoid the SNCF website in favour of DB (just do a search for 'diebahn') or OeBB (just search 'OeBBscotty'). Have found fares on OeBB can be cheaper and there are sometimes discounts for older people.
Thanks, Dylan! Still well filmed. Just, I just watched the video when it came out! Very good guide I think you have traveled well, it shows despite the delay !! So you prefer to travel above or below an Inoui?
Thanks! I personally prefer to travel on the upper deck of inOui
très Bon! Merci
De rien!
Hmm, a few steps down into the SNCF train, I hope there are ways to make that more disabled friendly.
Edit: we have a few commuter trains with the lower level of seats below platform level but, at the ends of the carriages the platform doors lead into a small area with seats and wheelchair spaces. Then there are steps down, or up to the top level. Some of these vestibule levels have bathrooms as well (all bathrooms are accessible).
Tbh, I'm not really sure how accessibility works on these trains.
Oh, I so want to visit Vienna! Hopefully one day soon once the pandemic is over or has settled down. Have you visited any cities in Germany, besides the train transfers?
Thanks for another great, video, Dylan. Have a fantastic weekend!
I've not yet but will be soon 😁

ICE-T & Railjet max speed 145 mph 230 km/h saw that in an American Magazine trains 2012 edition. 200 mph 320 km/h TGV 2N2 & DB Classes 406MF & 407 United Kingdom version Class 374.
No Regensburg or Nürnberg ?? The camera guy is a kill joy!
Love you need an International bike licence...... dont need to check your passport but do need to have that bike licence 😆. Trains seemd clean and fast and quite and the extra legroom is always a nice plus over air travel
I love this video are you going to do another one?
Yes more to come.
Dylan, with great pleasure I watch your videos and the quality is very, very good. Which camera do you use as I may ask?
Thanks! I use a GoPro Hero 7 Black.
great video! i am planning to relocate to austria from Paris, do you have any idea if there is any restriction in terms of luggage we can carry ? Also, since there will be 2 connecting trains, is it easy for the transit at Mannhiem and Munich stations. I will have only 15 minutes to catch the train to Munich from Mannhiem.
Thanks! There probably are restrictions but it's seldom enforced.
Very good info. Thanks! What do you do when you get to your destination? Are you a sightseer?
Thanks! I sometimes go sightseeing and sometimes just catch a train elsewhere.
Boa viagem de tren ai Dylans gostei do tren Viena paris bala
Unfortunately Germany is not willing to speed up the German
part of the line via Saarbruecken. 200 will be maximum in future. ICE train looks very comfortable and modern. TGV is really fast but mostly the interior is shabby and rude. SNCF s trains are often in bad condition.
Are there any off train options for food?
Yaaaaay, you’ve been to my city, that is Mannheim! That’s where a lot of different ICE lines come together, and because of that I travel to most of Germany without changing trains :)
So, what would you say, are the ICE seats better or the TGV ones? For me the answer is pretty obvious, just curious what your opinion is :)
Personally, in 2nd class at least, the TGV seats as you just sink into them. The ICE seats aren't bad, just prefer the TGV ones.
@@DylansTravelReports At 1m90 i really dislike the TGV altogether when compared with any German long distance stock. It just feels too small and cramped. Not sure if it's the actual seat pitch or the way everyone puts their luggage (especially in the double decker TGV) but when a TGV is crowded it's borderline claustrophobic.
How long does it take from austria to Paris?
Would this trip be faster if you took the Regiojet to Zurich, and then the TGV to Paris? those parts from Salzburg to Frankfurt and through the mountains west of Mannheim are quite slow as well and it feels like a big detour.. Maybe going via Munich is faster as well after the new high speed line from Ulm to Stuttgart finishes?
I think both routes take roughly the same amount of time give or take an hour.
Nightjet to Brüssel Mindi
Thalys to Paris Nord
Nicer 😎🤩
just a question, would you recommend this or a flight ? I'm only saying this if we consider first class train vs. flying as the costs are very similar
Depends if you're in a rush. If you have the time, take the train.
9:20 - Russian tourists everywhere)
Question about the reroute. Does that mean the stations in the original route will be skipped?
Yes
And how did you receive your tickets? Did you have to print them or they was in your smartphone? Thanks, have a nice day.
You recieve an e-ticket via email. You can either show it on your phone or print it.
@@DylansTravelReports Thank you for the answer.
Wonder why European High Speed trains are not as punctual as Asian High speed trains?
Kein Speisekarte?☹
The continent just knows how to do trains, unlike in the UK where it is awful.
I don't think the UK's as bad as some people like to make out but we sure lag behind in terms of high speed rail that's for sure.
@@DylansTravelReports more in value for money. Its awful in the UK, the cost of your 12hr train journey only £83?! Amazing value for money. Granted you could fly for that amout to each of these destinations from the UK but travelling within those countries for £83 is very good value for money.
Hello people looking in the comments! Have a nice day!

Dave Baker I think it’s pre-COVID-19 outbreak. He mentions in the beginning while explaining how to buy tickets that ticket prices went up since he traveled due to COVID. So that would suggest the video was taken prior.
