Hey everyone!! Hope you enjoy this list of travel tips for Austria :) As usual, feel free to add more tips in the comments if you have them, and check out the written version for more detail: happytowander.com/austria-travel-tips/
I wish I found your video sooner, we visited Austria and stayed in Graz it was an eye opener and we've learned so much in 3 days. We would definite go back to Austria, and you have given solid tips for next time we visit the country. Thank you .
Austrian here - excellent content! I actually saw The Sound of Music for the first time at 61 on Christmas Eve with my South Korean daughter-in-law because she felt a little home-sick and it's a Korean Christmas tradition
Your content is so useful! I'm surprised it's not promoted by UA-cam more. I like your blog too, a lot of good practical advice how to travel for less money
Well done! My husband is Austrian, but I am American, and I have been there with him several times. Your tips are so accurate. And kasespatzle is yummy!
I’ve been to Europe several times including Austria but I’m still learning new things on these travel tips. Hope you’ll cover more countries and cities.
Lovely share, I lived across the border (20 minute drive) so I visited Austria like I`d visit my neighbourhood. It`s lovely to see things from your lenses. Thanks so much for sharing.
Your travel guide/tip video is a gem in a sea of information. Your friendly demeanor and practical advice make it a joy to watch. Oh, and quick question - have you had the chance to explore the v4 Bento Bag from NomadLane? It seems like a perfect fit for your travel style.
Thank You very much . As you rightly said these are practical videos and one must know this. I am planning next year to Austria and this is very helpful to me. Thank you once again
I spent 4 days in Vienna the first week of December 2012 and it was magical with all the holiday decorations and Christmas markets. I was also lucky enough to score a ticket to the Vienna Boys Choir Adventkonzert in the Goldener Hall of the Musikverein. On another trip, I toured the Salzkammergut region. Beautiful.
Wow! That’s a sound summery! As an Austrian, I feel heard :) you should see Carinthia though. Less traveled, while offering stunning mountains and lakes.
You re so charming . I just came back from Australia last week . Will be in Austria in March . Thanks for the beautiful video ! LOL with the magnet you mentioned 😂😂😂
I had a limited time to travel with a friend by train from Paris to Bucharest in just 10 days. We had stops first in Paris, then Salzburg, Vienna, Budapest, and Bucharest. My favorite stops were both Salzburg and Vienna. Even compared to Paris, it was cleaner and much more affordable. The transportation was amazing, with both elevators and escalators in all the stations to make it easier to travel with luggage. The food and hotels were great and much more affordable, even in Vienna. My next European trip will hopefully be only to Austria so that I can take my time to see a lot more of the country as well as Vienna- the most beautiful city I have ever seen.
It´s very exiting to see your discription about my own country😀👍 And yes we feel very annoyed if a waiter comes more often to ask if we want something. Btw the Wiener Schnitzel comes from Milan :D
So I live in Vienna and I can say that it’s one of the most beautiful cities in Austria. Well you HAVE to visit Vienna in Winter, because that’s when the Christmas markets are “active” and they are soooooo magical. Oh and don’t forget to dress as warm as you can in Winter, because Vienna can be veeeeeeeeeryyyyyyyyyyy cold.
Super good tips. everything hit spot on especially for the first timer. I would just add for public transit it is on the honor system but check. And no ticket NO EXCUSE the fine last time I saw on the posters was $125 dollars US. But I am a tourist and did not know does not work. Just do not get scammed the checkers always have a badge on their coat with the shield of Vienna.
Austria looks beautiful I wish I had the opportunity or finances to live abroad for awhile and travel and explore all the beautiful countries you've been to and lived great information and tips.
As an Austrian, I appreciate the appreciation for our culture. The only thing I really don't agree with is the point about jaywalking. I'm not even sure whether it is actually illegal, but what I can definitely tell you is that it absolutely is common here and you'll see and probably also do it all the time. About sauce on Schnitzel. It's not 'apparently' sacrilegious, it's horrible - don't do it. Why would anyone ruin the nice and crispy Schitzel with some lame sauce. It's just wrong - Germans are like cavemen to us for doing this. Don't do it and if you want to stay safe in Austria, do not ask anyone for it. Apart from that, Austrians are welcoming and hospitable people and we love to share our culture with you. :)
In Asia,Thailand 🇹🇭 is my favorite but in Europe, Austria 🇦🇹 is now my favorite. Used to like Malaysia and Singapore too in Asia. And Poland and Scotland in Europe.
After living in the Munich area for three years, in the Spring of '79, I spent six weeks at a farm house near Spittal an der Drau... until the house caught fire. A Kachelofen ignited the insulation (shredded wood and clay) inside a wall. I got an axe and opened up the wall. Flames came out... and we spent a few hours pouring buckets of water inside the wall. After we thought it was out, since we didn't have a telephone, I ran down to the next farmhouse. I wanted the Bäuerin to tell the (freiwillige) fire department to come to make sure the fire was out. I was thinking a few people. She called the fire department and exclaimed "Feuer! Aneterhof!" A siren went off in the valley... and I could see several cars starting to make their way up along with a firetruck or two. The fire department poured a lot more water into the walls... and told us we did the right thing. One of the Feuerwehrmänner (he must have been at least 18) pointed his nozzle at me and joked "Hands Up!" We had a good laugh. The last I heard... the owner was actually happy about the house (built in the 1920s) because he would be able to build a new house. Most of what you said about Austrians applied also to Germans... at least Bavarians... except for staring. People always looked away. I think it had to do with shame about WWII.
Hi. We’re going to stay in Vienna and do day trips to Salzburg and Hallstatt. Do you reckon we get a train pass instead of buying individual train tickets?
At the end of September I will go to Vienna .on the first day I 'll arrive late afternoon. I think I can visit 2 ,3 places a day. To buy or not is the problem 😂. So confusing .
9:03 wrong! Although you may find many delicious different kinds of wine in the eastern parts austria is definitely more of a beer country (augustiner is the best beer)

Depends a lot on where you go! Up in the mountains for instance it may still be a little cool. I would bring mostly summer clothes but maybe 1 long sleeve, 1 long pair of trousers and a waterproof jacket with a hood in case you need to layers up. Weather in Central Europe can be unpredictable sometimes haha
@@HappytoWander thank you so much for replying! I do live in Europe and I can confirm that the weather is really unpredictable but I really needed some recommendations from people who traveled there before so again thank you!!💗
Do you by chance offer any site-seeing devices? I am looking to come back to Europe in possible Oct/Nov but will be traveling alone this time so would be cool to have someone who knows their way around.
finally somebody who mentions Vorarlberg and if you wanna eat real Kässpätzle you've to eat it in Vorarlberg because in the rest of austria you'll not get good cheese 😅
I’m thinking about going to Vienna in beginning of September, but when I looked up, Vienna looks pretty much Iike a city like Frankfurt; and I’m starting to worry I’d get bored if I’d stay a whole week there. Can you advise me where to go in Vienna or another place near by using the metro or train? I want to see city but I want to see more of nature, a bit of country side would be pretty much appreciated. I’m kinda lost and I’d like an advice from you. Thanks!
I am an Austrian and live in Linz. If you like the mountains or more coutryside go to Hallstatt, Bad Goisern, Bad Ischl or Salzburg (Mozart was born there)….the Wolfgangsee or Salzkammergut is beautiful! From most of the places you can go by train or rent a car. Vienna is not boring at all! Culture, shopping or music…nature also…boat trip on the Donau…so many things to do. Enjoy the coffeehouse culture. ☺️
Vienna is the only capital in the World with its own vineyards, you can go for a hike in the beautiful hills around vienna (all accessable by Tram or bus). There is also a lot of nature in the City, "Donauinsel" for example is a big Island in the danube river there is also a lot of nature in the "Prater" area, its an amusement park surrounded by a wood. There is also a national park which beginns AT the City border its called "Nationalpark Donauauen". There are hundreds of Museums and castles in Vienna and you can make a day Trip to Bratislava, the capital of slovakia, by boat, its called Twin City Liner. If you visit Vienna, you have to go to "Zentralfriedhof" its the biggest cemetery in Austria and one of the biggest in Europe, parts of it are left alone for many decades and nature is coming back, you can see deer, fox and rabbits. Zentralfriedhof is one of my favorite places in Vienna, not many tourists know about it, beside the wild parts of the cemetery there is some really beautiful architecture there. There are a lot of things to do and to see in Vienna. Frankfurt, Germany is really boring, there are no old houses and its the bank of europe, its a business town, not a tourist town. Come to Vienna and enjoy it.

I am planning to go to Vienna this summer to study, so have some questions mainly about nudity. Since I want to feel safe and wonder if there are places to avoid the nudity. Its not something I want to see and dont want to risk walking somewhere by accident and accidentally seeing something. I get that it`s not everywhere but i do want to be able to go to a beach without seeing any nudity. For a lot of reasons but mainly safety and boundries. I hope that someone can help me with this, or if the person who made the video could explain the topic a bit more.
the part about jay walking is simply not true. You are allowed to cross every street wherever and whenever you want. You simply have to do it in a manor to not force anyone
As an austrian, I must say your informations are very on point. On a lot of Austrian travel tips I heard that we stare a people - it is not that common as youtube wants you to think. We too find it rude and don't like it. So please don't do it.
Yes as someone who stayed in Vienna for a week, I didn't experienced being stared at and I didn't observe Viennese stare at people that much. And I was out everyday during my stay there going from place to place. I don't get where it's coming from haha.
Thank you for mentioning the kangaroos. Not many people know that they are not just in Australia. My understanding is that Vienna has been overrun by roving packs of delinquent kangaroo in recent years.
is jaywalking rly illegal here, or enforced? if so then no one cares lol also I was taught that no matter where a pedestrian crosses a car has to stop and wait for them

Great Video, I can tell as partly Austrian. But why that Speed talking? You speak in a speed that is hard to follow even for a fluent speaking in British English. Slow down, keep calm and have a Beer. Cheers!
As a non-native speaker of English, I think it's a good way to practice one's listening skills, plus it is super gratifying to be able to understand without any effort 99% of what she saying.

Great Video, I can tell as partly Austrian. But why that Speed talking? You speak in a speed that is hard to follow even for a fluent speaking in British English. Slow down, keep calm and have a Beer. Cheers!
Agree! I wanted to know what she said the name of the dumpling cheese and onion dish was. Going in June!
😂😂😂 thats what exactly the first thing i have noticed and it felts me annoying!! She's in a hurry😅😅
As a non-native speaker of English, I think it's a good way to practice one's listening skills, plus it is super gratifying to be able to understand without any effort 99% of what she saying.
I love her talking speed! But I am 100% fluent in English so I guess this is why
You can decrease the speed
