Nobody ever drew a more beautiful sound from the violin. This sound remained indelible nearly throughout, even though he was plagues by technical problems, especially with bow, particularly off-the-string. On this occasion, though, he was in remarkably good form, and experiencing Menuhin at his best, even long past the early years when the was a miracle like Babe Ruth and Red Grange, is still a highly gratifying experience
As a Collector and admirer of the late Yehudi Menuhin Records both on Pre war 78rpm and LP Vinyl I've got to admit that Video is almost as good as the Recording I've got in My own Record Collection Recorded on Saturday September 14th 1957 and Coupled with Lalo Symphony Espagnole on His Master's Voice ASD-290
Thank you enormously for these glimpses of Yehudi Menuhin's extraordinary artistry from a period in his journey now rarely available in its pristine purity and expressive passion! Please upload more such...
The harsh criticism is unwarranted. He could still pull off some brilliant playing, a few errors aside. Interesting, I thought he eschewed shoulder rests, though I think he is using one here.
Really interesting, he's quite a bit younger than most stuff on YT but clearly after his bowing went to pot (!!), to me comes across as totally manic, thank God he took up yoga and ascetiscism etc. Keeps eyes lowered and when he raises them it just adds to his problems, I wonder what his problem was, surely not just technical? To me, he characterises the true soul of the violin at its finest, but should he just have given up performing at this point?

Who was the concertmaster of this orchestra?

The standing podium for soloist is too small.
