A few months ago I bought one of these ebikes used for the frame because I thought it looked big and strong enough for my needs. It now has a 72v 100a battery with the 26 in fat tire 5k qs hub motor and a 100a sabvoton controller. This thing rips the trails like you wouldn't believe and the settings are on the conservative side for now. I topped out at 64mph the other day on a test run and was amazed with the power and how good it handles. I was inspired by you to build my own ebike that would be better than anything I could buy pre built and I did. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise.

It's a good looking bike with some nice features for the price. The front wheel is easy to fix. The other thing I'd do is go into the setup menu (press + and - buttons at turn on) and adjust the settings for top speed, max current, and how quick the throttle response is. Based on the display it looks like that controller uses the standard 'P' settings. I'll post them below ( I tend to build with the lower power controllers so I'm familiar with these).

      P01 - Screen Brightness from 001(low) to 003(brightest)
      P02 - Display units, 0=KM 1=Miles
P03 - Battery Voltage 24/36/48/60 (used to calibrate the remaining battery meter on the display)
P04 - Display sleep time 0=does not timeout, otherwise in minutes
      P05 - How many PAS levels (0=3, 1=5 levels, 3=9 levels)
P06 - Wheel Diameter (in inches)
P07 - 0 to 100 Number of speed magnets (I use 81, others say 80 works for them)
      P08 - 0 to 100 Speed limit in KM/Hr (needs external hall sensor, 100 = no limit)
P09 - Non zero start (0=Throttle works immediately, 1=need to pedal before throttle is available)
      P10 - Drive Mode (0=PAS only, 1= Throttle only, 2 = Both)
      P11 - Boost Sensitivity Delay for PAS ( 1 [quickest] - 24 [slowest])
P12 - Boost Start Strength (acceleration strength 0 = no acceleration, 5 is max)
P13 - Number of magnets in PAS (5 to 12)
P14 - Controller Current Limit in amps (1 to 20 - though 15 Amps is optimal for a single battery setup)
P15 - Controller voltage lower limit (000.0 to 200.0, controller shuts off when battery voltage is under this value)
P16 - Odometer value (used to clear odometer, press [+] for 5 seconds and it will clear.
P17 - Cruise Control (0=disabled, 1=enabled) When enabled holding down the throttle for a few seconds sets the speed. Press the throttle twice, or use the hand brakes to turn off cruise control
      P18 - Speed adjustment (from 50% to 150% - 100 = no adjustment)

Now your nephew's bike may not have all of these settings available, nor should all of them be adjusted. The ones to focus on would be P08, P12, and P14. P18 is used to tweak the spedometer should it be slightly off. Oh if there is a P19 or P20 don't touch them as they deal with communication protocols and hub types. I am going to say this - I built a bike, for my daugher down in Key West, with similar specs to this one only with a 36v battery (but still 500W - 15Amp) 21mph is the top speed with a full battery so I don't expect too much more from you nephews bike.

You can mostly true that front wheel while it is still on the bike. Feel spoke tension...if they all feel tight, loosen the spokes on the side oppoaite the disc brake rotor. If they are loose, tighten the ones on the disc side. Also...most of these controllers can have speed unlocked / unlimited but documentation isnt very easy to find. The display is usally the documentation you are looking for.

  • @sofa-kingfpv3295

It looks like an s866 display so if you wanted to change how intense the pedal assist kicked in it's setting p12 one being the least intense five being the most intense. Also setting p11 is for how sensitive the pedal assist is in terms of how many pedals it takes before it kicks in. And it's just my opinion but I think in the future when you review a bike you should remind people to not touch their brake rotors and clean them off with brake cleaner before their first ride. Save the world from a lot of squeaky brakes

As you showed with the Tommy bike you need a cellphone with GPS as actual speed. Very few displays actually show true speed. Some displays may be showing less speed than GPS and but most show higher by 1 or 2 mph some even more. The fork might have been bent sideways in shipping. If the fork is straight then file the slot the wheel is mounted to on the closest side about 3/16 to 1/4 should bring the tire over.

Mann I had just bought that heavy duty kickstand too. I ended up re bending back the kickstand end and kept cargol oad at 35.lbs with the rest of pounds in backpack. Beware of Walmart stuff.....lol, just saying? There was a time in America that we bought stuff & it lasted = good quality! That's
the way it was but now we live in a throwaway society >> if it breaks just get another. When you ask Walmart to sell your stuff
make the company lower their own standards if they want to sell at Walmart. Snapper Lawn mowers are a case/point whereas
he has a great product but Walmart wanted his to use sub-standard parts to make more profit. Snapper said, "NO". I'll keep
selling my mowers in mom-pop stores & give the quality that my name always had. He's one of the few that denied Walmart!

I have been thinking about making my own using a brake lever and the hall sensor from one of the many throttles I have, but I dont know about that. It's probably locked at 20 mph, this should go to 28 mph unlocked.

Naw if it's a 500w it's gonna do 20 max. I have a 500w bike and you just can't get more than 20 out of them.

@@E-bikeguysome of those 500s have good power, I would think 26mph unlocked, that's what my Speedrid does,it's similar.

@@bassw1758 25a controller is pretty good for a 500w hub motor , i think you’re right that thing should be able to do 25 at least. My Aventon SINCH with 500w hub and 21amp controller could do 26mph
