Paint it up dude, you’ve convinced me into doing this on my next build, probably would of saved me an esc purchase🤙
talk about PERFECT timing... thanks so much for the video!
Awesome, Dave. 👍👍
Great video
Using a prop to pry is brilliant how come I never thought of that! Gotta try that on my mamba F50 which has a EMI shield attached. Hopefully it will be easy
An EMI shield should be welded in a few spots to conduct the ground through it, break/desolder those spots and reconnect them when done. There will be a large trace under the edge of the can
Interesting. What are the heat transferring properties of the conformal coating? I'd think you'd want to use an actual heat sink compound to reattach the heat sink, but I'm not a chemical engineer in real life, or on-line. I do see it is silicone based, so it may be good enough. I'm guessing this isn't your first rodeo either, so glad to know it can work that way. Thanks for sharing! I would love to see more hints and tips videos.
Been doing em this way for about 5 years, never had a heat issue with conformal coating. It's very thin. Using a thicker coating like kotking, worryfree, or epoxy would worsen the thermal characteristics, but esc's shouldnt be hot in any case, not with 4 fans blowing
Awesome!!!! Is it totally waterproof or just moistureproof with MG chemicals??
MG will keep your board from frying when they get wet, it will not be completely reliable if fully submerged, but great for flying in the rain. Stay tuned if you want ultimate protection, i'm doing a shootout with MG Chemicals, KotKing, WorryFreeFPV and E6000 Epoxy testing more serious protection, but also considering the compromises needed to go to that next level
@@Fly_High_FPV really interesting!! Already subscriber ;)
What does mean 50A ? Is this the max current per motor or the total current for all motors?
I didn't find any specification about that.
Thanks for helping.
Just saw this, sorry it"s so late. 50Amps is the continuous current the esc can handle across each motor.
@@Fly_High_FPV 😀 Thank you for helping.
Hi.
Did you put the heatsink back on it? Did you replace the thermal paste to stick it back on?
Press the plate right back down into the wet coating. No need for thermal paste, the coating will bridge the gap
Do you clean the pads before soldering ? And I guess you apply another layer on the pads after the soldering? Thanks
The pads are brand new, already clean. On the first pass I paint everything, but the pads. After she's soldered up, I do a 2nd pass to seal in the joints 👌
@@Fly_High_FPV perfect thanks!!
I have a mamba esc with emi shield, is it the same process? Or is it attached differently?
Sorry i missed this, but emi shields are basically a big can attached to ground, so it's usually soldered down to a trace on the board, sometimes only in the corners
Part 2?
Doh! Shortly after this, i switched to Worry Free Conformal Coating, because it's more reliable under water and didnt take multiple coatings. Check my waterproofing playlist for more 💦💦
JB in one of his live streams mentioned not to conformal coat the barometer. Any thoughts on that? Thank you for your video.
If you use the barometer to monitor your altitude, dont cover it up. Same with onboard microphones. Betaflight can display the sensor data, but iNav can use a barometer for loiter mode and more accurate elevation control 👍
@@Fly_High_FPV Good to know...thank you! Just subbed.
I use Beta flight. Now to find where the barometer is so I don't conformal coat it! :)
does it can run 128k khz in blheli32?..i heard it is F4 MCU?
I believe so. But the v50 is no longer in production, we're using v45a for 5" quads now. The newer v45 is also 128khz, but also has the 10v regulator for digital vtx's 👍

How is this esc so far?
Loving it, i'm using it in a marmotte with a caddx vista, beating the shit out of it, broke another arm last week, but it's covered 😁
@@Fly_High_FPV what the max pwm frequency, websit have nt mentioned anywhere

Perfect, you're my last entry in UA-camz just closed the drawing...gotta tally up all the entries and we'll do a drawing live on instagram, hopefully tonight
There's no reason to remove that plate... BY FAR the best water barrier is a physical one and the best waterproofing, again by far, is hot glue. You should take advantage of any physical barriers that already exist and hot glue around them.
I super highly recommend watching videos comparing different forms of waterproofing... I know MG Chemicals is widely used and recommend in FPV but it actually is one of the least effective ways to waterproof an ESC or any other board that is not flat.
Do not use hotglue on an esc. When the board gets hot it will thin and get on everything. MG is a light duty coating, which is particularly easy to rework through, for simple maintenance. If you want better protection, I recommend a heavy-duty coating like WorryFreeFPV. It's difficult to get an esc properly coated if you dont remove the heatsink first. If you leave the plate on, you're trying to seal a bunch of holes, a proper coating seals the board from edge to edge
