Snowboarding Helmet and Goggle Integration - From Dad to Rad! | SportRx

  • There’s two ways to set up your helmet and googles. Watch SnowboardProCamp’s Kevin Piece teach Sunglass Rob how to ditch the old school and wear his gear like he was born to shred.
While neither way is wrong, Kevin’s setup offers extra advantages that Rob’s doesn’t. Kevin’s goggles and strap are inside the helmet which can be better for getting that perfect seal around the face. This seal is what keeps the elements out for better fog prevention and ultimately better visibility.
Okay, so maybe the dad way isn’t wrong, but Kevin’s setup is better. His hood will keep his goggles dry even with outside precipitation. And bonus, Kevin’s goggles don’t sit on his helmet when he tilts them up, so anything that might be on his helmet never touches the inner foam lining of his goggles.
If you’re sold on configuring your helmet and goggles like a pro, here’s the step-by-step for Kevin’s setup:
    1. Put on your beanie nice and snug
    2. Fit goggles over beanie (beanie acts as part of the seal)
    3. (If you have a hood like Kevin, now is the time to put it on)
    4. Put on your helmet
    5. Do a check for any gaps
If the fit is comfortable then it's time to hit the slopes!

Just wanted to throw it in here but most Smiths with BOA allow you to take the earpeaces off without removing the BOA. So you can keep all the safety aspects of the helmet intact. Personally the ability to customize the layers on my head/face is huge especially with variable conditions. I also think I can hear a bit better without the ear peaces and think that outweighs the little added protection. Also like being able to lift my goggles onto a dry mask and prevent the moisture from my helmet making its way onto my skin. But its all preference whatever works and is comfortable.

@@xxx_epic_sniper_xxx2.021 Definitely not the most comfortable. The main reason to remove the stock padding and wear your goggles underneath are 1. Being able to customize your layers. Personally, I like to wear a thin poly beanie that is water-wicking and doesn't trap moisture with a thin fleece or wool neck warmer over the beanie and over my ears, but on colder days Ill throw on some thicker layers. 2. Keeping your goggles dry. Being able to lift your goggles and place them on your dry beanie will make it a lot less likely for them to get foggy beyond no return. Ideally, if you have mag lenses just pop them off and keep them in your chest pocket. 3. Better mobility, less weight, and better hearing.

When you need to lift your goggles off quickly on the mountain it's the biggest pain undoing your straps first..plus your helmet could fall off on a lift. He still looks like a dad cause that helmet makes him look like he should be riding a bicycle...just take the ear pads off.

To me it’s the opposite: the googles outside the helmet looks professional, clean and manifests less preoccupation for trends. The googles inside are not practical and it’s less safe (pads removed!). In my eyes it looks very teenager, even childish, and so cluttered (pads are removed but instead you put a beanie plus a baklava), it’s complicating things for just a different look (I think a lot has to do with making a difference with skiers). Those ‘rad’ guys are using the baklava even in spring when it’s so warm that they only wear a t-shirt… it’s all non-sense for the sake of appearance. I think you should have your own personality and wear it ‘your’ way. That’s the ultimate radness :)

    • @boom1481

    • @sportrxeyewear

Some people are able to remove the liner in their helmet to better fit with a beanie, but we're pretty sure Kevin had to size up to also be able to also fit his hood balaclava under it comfortably. Keep in mind that many helmets use velcro to hold the helmet liner, and that velcro may stick to your beanie!

    • @Snanemal

Hello samoahbay! The 'dad' style we refer to in the video means wearing your goggle strap around the outside of your helmet. The 'rad' goggle fit means wearing your goggle strap underneath your helmet which many people consider the cooler way of styling your helmet and goggle. Hope this helps!

@@sportrxeyewear thank you! Apparently I grasped this from the clip which is lovely done. I mean, does 'rad' stand for 'radical' or something and 'dad' is for say 'founding fathers did this that way' ? Cheers

You're halfway there. Rad=Radical, Dad=Dads out on the slopes getting their shred on. The main point is to show you two different ways to style your goggle and show you what is hot on the streets!

@@samoahbay it's because dads do things the "right" way and usually not the cool way. Dads (the stereotypical kind) tuck their t-shirt in, wear white tennis shoes/ fanny packs, use a cell phone pouch....that kind of stuff. It basically means "uncool but practical".
