Imagine competing in sport as a woman but you have to compete against men, the purpose of women's sports is that women don't compete against men. Imagine going to the toilet as a woman and a man is in the toilet, if you aren't a woman you won't understand what that means. Imagine going to prison in a women only prison and being housed with violent male prisoners, and again if you aren't a women you won't understand what that means, and it means terrible.

i wish the same thing, but the main reason the army doesn’t allow transgender soldiers is, unfortunately, due to the high healthcare costs associated with getting a gender reassignment and therapy afterwards.

hermaphrodite is an outdated term, the condition is called being intersex now. And usually the condition is more male or more female, it is rare for there to be completely ambiguous genitalia but in those cases usually they reconstruct the genitals if necessary to one gender or the other

Consider this: Trans people are the most dedicated people. They are willing to give up everything about their previous self to live authentically, under go a lifetime of hurtful societal pressures, endure years or decades of medications, surgeries, come out to their family and friends and they do it every day while no one watches, that's dedication. Yeah, I want this level of dedication in my Military. I'm a 1988-1996 US Army Military Police Veteran and I'm also transgender.

The Army forced me to buy my first pair of heels (cis female) to wear with my Dress Greens. Then, they made us walk though grass. So freaking awkward.
So I think this actually changed my opinion. I was always of the mindset that because trans people tend to go through a lot of physical changes, it would hinder their ability to serve. But...I think I don't believe that anymore. Clearly, this couple is doing everything they can to serve their country and it makes me angry that they're not allowed to go by their preferred pronouns.
@J T they do in fact have a neurological condition called gender dysphoria. in the womb they're exposed to different levels of hormones and it impacts the development of their brain. its proven now in multiple studies that, for example, a transgender male (FtM) will have a brain with a more similar structure to that of a male. the only treatment available is transition. its simply not logical to deny them the right to live as anyone else based on something that has little impact on their ability to function post transition.

Taxes shouldn't be funding for their choice to be on meds based on appearance goals. And that's been a goal.
Actually, you DO have to tell them what gender you were originally at birth. Regardless if you're for or against transgenderism, the chemical makeup within original male and female bodies are different. They need to know which gender they were originally so they can properly give the right dose of the right drug without running into complications or death.

Even if it was, there are tons of people in the military who have mental health issues and they continue to serve and are fully capable of their jobs. People with depression, anxiety disorder, PTSD, ADHD... the list goes on and on. Some of those conditions were even brought on by their military service and the sacrifices they had to make- like with PTSD, depression, self-harm and suicidal idealizations. I'm 66. The world really has changed. I served in the military. Maybe one-day, we can get rid of religion and its hate and start loving each other the way we should. I cried when I saw how these two sweet kids love each other.
I am a former combat and disabled US Marine. These individual are serving our nation in many dangerous situations and some are doctors saving lives. I thank them for their service and should be allowed to stay in the military. They are not pervs but human beings who know the rules of the military which is discipline and to preserve our Freedoms!

I think it has more to do with the toll that a sexual transition takes on the body. Military service is tough for people in their prime. Having someone transitioning from male to female/ female to male is not practical for service. It will cost more than its worth, just like someone joining who are going to go through a major surgery or medical treatment in the near future. It's just not practical. And how many will join just to cover the costly expenses of a sexual orientation change?

Livingmylife I'm planning on enlisting in the marine corps. In the marine corps you can't hide that you are transgender. They mess around with you, they'll find out and you'll definitely get hazed. The Air Force is one of the easiest to deal with. The marine corps is the hardest. This guy is one of my idols.

People who are transgender don't fit this criteria AT ALL, it's very similar to letting somebody who suffers from anorexia into the army. People suffering from asthma or eczma aren't allowed in because their medications are a burden to the army, so why does this "guy" get a pass, please name any other illness that the army would excuse... I'll wait. It's a complete joke, if the supply line got cut off from their base he would slowly turn into a woman again without his testosterone.

i served in the army and when i was in, homosexuality was illegal. i knew a guy in my battalion that got kicked out of the army for being gay. im glad this individual can serve and not have to worry about his sexual preference anymore. as far as im concerned, most people dont want to serve so if you're gay or straight and you wanna be in the military, you're my brother or sister and i got your back no matter what. u have to have a lot of balls to serve your country for minimum wage.

I'm not educated on this and this is just a guess, but I feel as though it has to do with the injections of the hormones. Or maybe it's even that people, such as myself, see it as a mental condition. And they see it as a hazard to have someone with a mental condition in such a strong mental environment. Now I dont stand anywhere as to if they should or shouldn't be in the military, the only thing I stand by is that it is a mental condition, but even though I call it a mental condition, i don't mean it as a bad thing.
