It’s Nanaimo, not Nainmo haha 😂 my mom lives one town over from Nanaimo (which is a small city on Vancouver Island) so I’ve been there lots of times to catch the ferry to Vancouver. And yes, Nanaimo bars are amazing (because they are mostly butter).

The beaver tail looks like what I would call bannock. From indigenous peoples, often a fried bread but you can also wrap the dough around a fresh cut stick and cook it over a camp fire. Yum

I know "beaver tails" as "elephant ears" in the USA. A regular elephant ear is cinnamon sugar, and popular toppings are strawberries, apples, and cherries. :)

We in America are pretty similar to our Northern Counterparts 1. We call disco fries popular in Wisconsin 2. We have funnel cakes served generally at fairs it’s a thin pancake batter deep fat fried into a circular shape made of tunnels topped with powdered sugar 3. Is a chess pie popularized by families who couldn’t afford nuts or were very short on ingredients but needed a dessert (similar to pecan pie except no nuts or in the UK treacle tarts) 4. We now have ketchup chips too but BBQ is the go to here 5. We have Tim’s here too 🎉 Tim bits are doughnut holes American humor just kills the sales of them 😅

oh we have the second one in Argentina and it's a national dish... 😅 we have it with sugar. my mom used to bake them when I was a kid and she would let me go crazy with quince jam. That was our mediatarde/snack. she had them with mate, and I would have it with mate cocido or tea❤ it brings fond memories from my childhood

Hey uh, I’m originally from Vancouver Island Canada where Nanaimo bars were invented.
True story, they were actually made in a small town to the South of Nanaimo called Ladysmith. But then again, Ladysmith Bars don’t quite have the same ring to it, now do they? 😂❤

As a Canadian- if you get ketchup chips (or any chips) get Old Dutch brand. Also, you can and should miss anything Tim Hortons. Large cities have amazing 3rd wave coffee and pastries. Timbits just come from a freezer bag.

I love poutine! Only thing I swap my cheese curbs with tonsil stones or garlic cloves because of the flavour. People need to try tonsil stones with fries because of the sour flavour that adds to it. Gonna dig for some stones now!

I have been in Canada so many times when I lived in Alaska. Went up and down the Cassiar and Al-Can probably 100 times from the Lower 48 back to AK. I NEVER found but one restaurant that my family could stand the food in. It was a Russian cafe in a little out if the way town that I cannot remember now. Canadian food is the most bland tasteless food I ever ate. My husband said that only English food was more tasteless! He was stationed there for 2 years. Don't believe any of this! The only thing that would be enticing would be the Native Fry Bread if fresh fried.

The beaver tail looks like a Mexican treat we called buñuelos. It's also a fried dough topped with cinnamon and sugar. If you live outside of Canada and you have a Mexican bakery around they should have them. I mean it's basically a churro just flat.
