I feel so bad for this poor cow because it looks like it has been infected for a long time. The cow can't tell anyone what hurts so it can get taken care of sooner. I've known meat cows (and this looks like one) who would stay so far from their owners and show so little signs that they could get pretty bad off before they'd allow someone to approach them. Could be something like that. But honestly if you connect with your animals, no matter what their purpose, it is so much easier on both you and the animal to take care of them properly. At least she's cared for now.
This is just something that happens. When you have thousands of head of cattle, that do a whole lot of standing around, things like this can go unnoticed. I wouldn't automatically assume neglect. Perhaps they need better ranch hands, but not sure it's intentional neglect.
Neglecting close care is the same as any other neglect , unless its from an enormous herd that only gets a through check once a year , then there is no reason for this. But thank you for helping her , at least someone cared .
Hoof grows at about 2 inches per year. If he cut off 6 inches of hoof, that cow had been suffering for about 3 years. For a dairy cow, that is about half it's life.
I used to work on a dairy when i was young and honestly i never saw any good care for the bovine’s, i vowed never to work with animals again unless they were mine. Love to see those beautiful creatures being cared for❤
You certainly get to handle some severe cases. Glad you will be helping reverse the infection,improve balance, and the cow will have a better chance. One hoof trimmer said cows can be in places were they are not noticed, sometimes deliberately hide out, certainly more so if they feel vulnerable, as from poor feet. Have also personally noted that sometimes a really severe condition can settle in in a very short time. Good this cow was noticed and you were called.

The negativity is for those who clearly neglected this animal for it to get to this point. If you watch other hoof workers you know animals are seen to way before the poor creature has to endure what this animal did.
I worked with cattle when I was younger and mainly dairy cows. I became close to alit of the animals and would never allow their hooves to get that bad. Dairy cows give us approx. 16,000 12oz. Glasses of milk in their lifetime and when they were done milking they put them out to pasture to live out their in comfort and grace I hate when they sell them for slaughter. I pampered them kept them clean and got them fresh fruit all the time. I loved these cows for what they gave and I believe giving back. No way would any cow be in that kind of pain. You need to watch the "Hoof GP" Graeme Parker from Scotland. He can show you exactly how to maintain cows hooves. He's also very meticulous " clean"the way he keeps all his equipment and takes excellent care on a regular basis of all the farmers cows 🐄

Was thinking the same. Cows are totally different to othr animals. Looks like digital dermatitis and other issues,it takes a lot to make cows hurt and you need to be careful with how you trim them
I would like to have a chat with the owners that allowed this to let this get so far along. Cattle have far different feet/hooves than horses. This old girl isn't complaining a bit as this is going on.

Salt is a natural antibiotic and so I would imagine that even the most stubborn cow would stand for a few minutes in a bath of warm salt water in order to eliminate bacteria. I suggest that a salt bath be done inside a barn and away from any grassland because salt does kill grass. The health of the cow would be much better if it is shepherded through a warm salt bath, covering to ankle deep, at least every week.
Please wear a respirator for this work, or at the very least a mask when using the grinder. Save yourself from major health issues later on... good job helping this girl!

This girl was in desperate need of help; she was in danger of dying!! I’ve watched the Scottish gentleman many times, and this man’s treatment was very similar, I thought. The hoof was trimmed, cleaned, medicated and bandaged, and no matter how or why it happened, it was a “wait and see” situation regardless of who did the hoof care. This is a case of cruelty to animals, and the owner should be charged criminally and banned from owning animals that are so neglected. Their hooves should be checked on a regular basis. Don't tell not to blame the owners. If you want animals, make sure you can care for them. The better their feet are, the cheaper routine care should be. I also think it's disgusting when some one gets a dog or a cat and never takes them to a vet.

What did they do wrong ? HGP uses nippers at times, even did a video just with nippers. He also started with a crush like this and it's widely used all over the world. He himself has addressed this very thing. Maybe watch more of his videos not just shorts
This is a very old style and model of crush. I believe these were the first styles because original you held the cow on the ground to trim. So, the crush was designed off of that. Which i agee with what a few of ya'll said that this one is primative looking. But everything starts somewhere. I am so glad they have newer designs like the KVK.
To check up on this cow after 30-40 days is negligent. If you guys really have such hot & humid weather there you are supposed to check it more frequently (like after 2 weeks) - if you would care about the wellbeing of the cattle ...

You said it wasn't the owners fault but if he had his cows boots checked on regularly it would have been caught sooner and she would not have had to suffer aslong. So YES it is the owners fault. If you going to have an animal of any kind you should be willing to treat them as well as you treat yourself because they are part of you family.

Their hooves should be checked on a regular basis. Don't tell not to blame the owners. If you want animals, make sure you can care for them. The better their feet are, the cheaper routine care should be.
I also think it's disgusting when some one gets a dog or a cat and never takes them to a vet.

What did they do wrong ? HGP uses nippers at times, even did a video just with nippers. He also started with a crush like this and it's widely used all over the world. He himself has addressed this very thing. Maybe watch more of his videos not just shorts

This is a very old style and model of crush. I believe these were the first styles because original you held the cow on the ground to trim. So, the crush was designed off of that. Which i agee with what a few of ya'll said that this one is primative looking. But everything starts somewhere. I am so glad they have newer designs like the KVK.
To check up on this cow after 30-40 days is negligent. If you guys really have such hot & humid weather there you are supposed to check it more frequently (like after 2 weeks) - if you would care about the wellbeing of the cattle ...
