Travelling The Aether Back To You To A Land So Far Away I Feel The Distance In-Between A Fragment Of The World That Used To Be Speaking Through The River Stream
haha i cracked at the big guy's flat face upon hearing that 'mate'. for a sec, he prob tho kevin was being playful with him, as in 'checkmate of chess' lols
luki210299 Popularity doesn't matter much. I mean, look at what it happening to OPM. It will be good, but not as incredible. However, I believe that it will retain the quality it had in the first season in season 2.
I got to meet Kevin Penkin at a convention and I felt like such a huge musical weeb telling him his music was so beautiful and he reminded me of yoko kanno. He said he was so flattered that I compared him to her. Such a lovely OST.
brooo you're so luckyy!!!! I also thought so too, I think Kevin got some inspiration from Yoko Kanno's "Strangers", gives off a similar vibe and he used the same singer that Yoko worked with
It's amazing that they don't record to picture. I feel like anime music tends to be significantly more musical and expressive because composers are allowed to write music they want to write as opposed to music that matches perfectly with on-screen action. This soundtrack is excellent and I hope to hear more from Penkin and other non-native composers.
I just came from Every Frame A Painting video about Marvel soundtrack.. I'm only aware by now of how the majority of these movie composers have less liberty and creative freedom in their works. It's more like, what you said, recording to picture. And the director would go as far to tell them to recreate a music/remix based on the already existing ones and used by previous movies. I'm glad that the equivalent of these composers with freedom still exist, especially in anime and game soundtrack making.
While it can be more freeing creatively, in my opinion it comes with a sacrifice in the ability to tell the story through the music. When scoring to picture, you can write a theme and transform it to tell whatever is going on in the story at that time. Think in Star Wars, the first time we hear the force theme, it's somber and wistful to reflect Luke's longing, and to suggest that the force is guiding him on this adventure. Later when they attack the death star, it's played much more heroically, telling us that Luke is using the force to save the day. Or the usage of the Imperial March in the prequels, hinting at Anakin's future. This can get very complicated and specific to scenes, which you just can't do when you write things away from the picture, and you can't really count on the director and producers to honor your musical intention. If you try to write pieces based on story moments, it's likely that they will put them in a scene completely out of context.
I actually lived probably really close to that place. Can't say I was there when they recorded the soundtrack for Made in Abyss, since I've long since moved out, but I can say I lived right there near Schonbrunn. The shots with the fountain and the horses? I've walked by there several times.
muser0111 My grandma is from vienna, but has moved to Vorarlberg in the early 60s. I believe a relative of mine works at this place. I don't have much contact with him, but I'm fairly certain.
This was in 2017. I went to Vienna in 2018 without even knowing what Made in Abyss was. Watching this and realizing I went to the city where one of my favourite anime's OST was recorded is mindblowing. Wow...
Yeah I mean the soundtrack is fantastic throughout but it was difficult to notice how marvelous it is because of the grand visuals and the hooking plot and it was just too much goodnes to registrate separately but Tomorrow just threw me outside of myself, that's when it hit me like a bus and I had to research everything about this brilliant man. He really did an outstanding job on Tomorrow. There are about three points in the song about 1 - 2 seconds long I sometimes listen 15 times in a row to, just not able to stop replaying them because god they are miraculous.
Didn't see your lie un April. Kimi no na wa ost was indeed very good, but I think Penkin made something a bit more inventive and unexpected for an anime
Thank you for making such a treat of a video! So many talented people involved in the TV show...one of the most exciting aspects is wondering how they would tackle the story from where season 1 left off. One of the most gripping anime I've seen in the past couple years and happy to support by buying the Japanese Blu-Rays. In any case, I wish Mr. Penkin a successful career in music production, we need more anime shows with his kind of great music.
One of the best movie / TV soundtracks in recent years period. Just a completely different take on orchestral music, even when we ignore the fact that there are a bunch of instruments in there that you wouldn't find in a traditional orchestra. (OSTs need more E-pianos.)
I'm so glad they recorded this for us to watch! It was a treat to get a peek into the soundtrack recording process, and Kevin Penkin seems like a really cool dude.
If only they had shown Tomorrow... really interesting to see how the music for Made in Abyss was recorded, nonetheless! Would of been cool to see the vocals being performed, as well :P
This is one of my new top favorite anime of all time... I just found it a couple days ago, and it's virtually ALL I can think about. "Hanezeve Caradhina" is my favorite track.
OMG I'm so glad I found this video XD Made in Abyss has absolutely fantastic and breath-taking music. After I got the albums (yes, for Dawn of the Deep Soul as well), I started listening to them on almost a daily basis just because they're all so amazing. Thank you all so much for working on this show and putting so much effort into them!!!
Oufff Clannad for real though. Especially that super moody remix of phases of the moon. I mean it is a great track to begin with but that remix gets me every time
Actually went back to listen to it. Haven’t heard it in a while and realised I confused the remix and the original. Both amazing still. But not only these even. All of the songs are great and unique since you barely hear anything similar in an anime. Just like MiA
This is so amazing thank you so much for the upload ♡♡♡ I'm such a fan of the talent and soul that Kevin Penkin hosts so this was extremely satisfieing to see. I know it's stupid but somehow it was also extremely lovely to see that all these humen just looked... human. Nothing flashy, you could meet them in the bus, meanwhile creating such insane magic.
I am addicted to the music. I’ve listened the entirety of all 3 soundtracks. Beyond the story, the music was the thing that I looked forward to most in S2.
👑This is what I was looking for!! Made in abyss soundtrack is the most liked in my books of anime music, why? Because all of the music in Made in abyss I like all of the music in this fantasy world. Everything is just spot on played perfectly and just the music itself tells a story. Beautiful work👑
"I checked with a mate."
"a what"
"a friend."
gets me every time.
was looking for this comment🤣
i cant believe that one moment eventually led to him wanting to pursue more anime music

😂
You know what? He's the perfect composer for this anime, being Australian and all. Pretty much anything is trying to kill you there.
shit, true
As a Australia I can say a lot of crap try’s to kill you
He is not the only one. Violet's composer also not a japanese man
Allelieder it is great and matches well no matter what you say
Allelieder Ok, but we still enjoy it. Sorry that you don’t :p
Music for a japanese animation, composed by an australian guy and recorded in Vienna, Austria.
Probably they mixed up Australia and Austria when they picked studios
caricaturea oh my god, and it seems that saying them in Japanese makes it even harder to distinguish
The language of music is universal.
I love diversity
Masterpiece
kevin penkin, if you ever read this, you sold me on this show with that opening piece, absolutely amazing
could not agree more.
Underground River is one of the most amazing tracks in any anime and I will die on this hill.
We need more anime with production value like this! I really hope that this much effort is put into Season 2!
Nue Obviously they will put as much efcort into this
The anime is so popular
luki210299 Popularity doesn't matter much. I mean, look at what it happening to OPM. It will be good, but not as incredible. However, I believe that it will retain the quality it had in the first season in season 2.
luki210299 yeah nah look at how dragon ball super turned out lmao
Thats mad eby Toei and Toei are a shitty studio
We would if 90% of the people watching anime aren't illegally streaming it.

Amazon Japan store is "in Japan" they ship to any country in the world. You can buy it anywhere.
There is project where you can buy a limited vinyl of Made in Abyss OST. You can foud the link on Kevin Penkin's twitter page ;)

@@NabilahSafira Its actually a lucky byproduct of the quite exhausting anime creating procidure

i live in austria near vienna and had no idea they recordet the soundtrack a few kilometers away from me...

Great Anime with a Great Ost.
the best ost*
*best anime 2017 with best ost 2017
Absolutely true
This is maybe the most awesome anime ost I've heard since Madoka Magica. I'd be more than glad to listen to an entire music chamber album from Penkin.
What about Your lie in April or kimi no Na wa ost?
Didn't see your lie un April. Kimi no na wa ost was indeed very good, but I think Penkin made something a bit more inventive and unexpected for an anime
For me it was AoT's and Dragon Dentist's OST's that killed it.
Thank you for making such a treat of a video!
