    Modern Japanese mindset shown here: 1. We entered the war too early. 2. We joined the wrong team. 3. That’s all; those catastrophic things done by us during the process is irrelevant.

      @@jawedz I partially agree with you. It's reasonable for the Japanese people to shun away from the unpleasing history (so do many other nations.) However, this could not be used as a means to justify such phenomena. Chinese governments hide unpleasing history away from the mass. Yet, people still try their own ways to seek for cruel truths. I say people who are strong at heart are not afraid of the gruesome past so that they could hold the future steadfast.

      In this Alternate WW2 the Japanese defeat the Allies in the Pacific. Hitler defeats the Soviet Union and then proceeds to pick of the British Empires colonies, but then goes ahead and declares war on Japan, so Japan decides to back Britain and the U.S rejoins the war to fight Germany too. Its basically like Wolfenstein only the main difference is the Pacific timeline is totally different (in Wolfenstein the Germans arrive in time to defeat the Americans invading Japan in 1945, with events in the Pacific preceding as they were IRL). The whole pretense of Japan doing better is Yamamoto goes back in time and corrects some mistakes, mostly military, but also political so the IJ aren't truly Empire building anymore but instead liberating countries from Western rule.

    • @mosesracal6758
      @mosesracal6758 4 роки тому +9

      Its not really a modern mindset, even before "danzig or war" the Japanese were never fond of the Nazis as they have been helping China ever since (they just viewed them as a convenient ally). Japan also knew that the war has been lost ever since they were not able to cripple the Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor, moreso in the battle of Midway. Even Yamamoto knew that and after Midway they knew they were just figthing for survival.
      However I do agree at that 3rd point where warcrimes are considerably still ignored and not even widely taught (NowYouKnowBetter have an awesome insight to why this is).
      All that I am saying is that this is not representative of the modern Japanese mindset, the culture of being apologetic to World War 2 still runs to this day. However the rise of the militaristic nationalists could very well change things.

    Love this series. Sure a lot of is implausible. But being a millitary buff it’s just the coolest thing to see experimental aircraft and more modern technologies used in World War II. Like missiles, and attack helicopters, radar chaff, a modern day style cruise, and the giant submarine fortress with scuba soldiers and lasers. You can’t deny as kinda dumb as they are it’s pretty awesome to see if you turn your brain off Some really interesting scenarios too. Like a German panzer front in India fighting the British. The Oriental Republic of Jerusalem, a Japanese bombing of Germany in reccomend it if you just want more battleship anime which after Zipang and space battleship Yamato I needed!

      +nerfmega51 6 The I 400 is actually a hell of a lot better known than most Japanese subs, just because it's so unique. I bet that's the only kind of Japanese sub you could recognize off the top of your head, am I right? So much for "unknown"! Although this is kind of ridiculous; all the I 400 could carry is like 4 single-engine Aichi Seiran floatplanes; the idea of them somehow carrying and launching all these planes is ridiculous. They were kind of ridiculous anyway; they were supposed to attack targets in the US along the West Coast...what are a few small planes carrying 500lb bombs going to do do effect the US? The Allies pummeled Germany and Japan with huge fleet of heavy bombers, and it didn't stop them from fighting, so a handful of single-engine planes making raids would only be annoying to the US. Although, knowing the way people from the US are, they'd insist on being made 100% safe, and the politicians would pull an entire Air Force and 200,000 men to man AA guns just to try to make sure that not a singe bomb landed on the US again. The US has never learned to take losses proportionately. So, I guess in some ways, the I 400 made sense, in that the US would dedicate far more power protecting from them then they really called for. Some things never change!

      @@justforever96 the attack would probably succeeded but with more submarines so they can carry more planes, and meaning it’s an Panama Canal attack it would take a lot of time repairing it, and because most of us military factories are located near the Atlantic Ocean they would need to use the Panama Canal and because it’s it damaged and flooded it it’s technically imposible to mount anti air guns

    Sept. 3, 2020----I know this series is totally unreal, but I still like it. Why? It's the Japanese version of Luftwaffe '46. Right now I'm into 1/35 scale zombie/ apocalypse dioramas, but if I got back to aircraft, going for Japanese/Luftwaffe '46 aircraft/dioramas. How about a natural metal Me-262 with multiple kill markings on it while being displayed at some German airfield while everyone is celebrating Victory in Europe, meaning England fell. Germany doesn't invade Russia since it discovered all those oil deposits in the Middle East for example. Or Japanese versions of the Me-262's duking it out against Corsairs or Hellcats?

    • @greggv8
      @greggv8 2 роки тому +2

      Have a look on UA-cam for secret ww2 aircraft. Germany, Japan, the USSR, USA, and UK all had projects in the works for advanced aircraft. Germany got pretty far, building several designs in decent numbers but lacked good materials to build them and hardly had enough pilots left by 1945 for the planes they could build. Japan built a large number of jet and rocket planes, copies of the ME262 (Kikka) and ME163 (J8M1) but also some of their own designs. They also had advanced propeller aircraft like the J7W Shinden but material shortages prevented construction of very many. Japan had at least 6 different single engine fighter planes being built from before the war through its end. That spread resources thin when they should have concentrated on one for use on aircraft carrier and one for land based operation. Even worse was they made so many of the A6M Zero that started before the war as a fast and agile fighter but soon outclassed by new American fighters, especially with the Zero's lack of self sealing fuel tanks and cockpit armor.
      Japan's other finite resource was its painstakingly trained pilots. Their pre-war training process was long and produced very good pilots, but as they got killed off, Japan didn't adapt well to faster training like the Allied countries. Germany didn't either. By the end of the war they were both putting "pilots" into planes with barely enough training to be able to take off and land without crashing, and a lot of them never got to land after a combat mission. The best of Japan's best pilots survived, but their numbers were few, and several of those spent their lives fruitlessly as Kamikaze. Saburo Sakai would have been among them but the Kamikaze flight he was sent out with couldn't find their American targets in due to heavy clouds and managed to fly back to their airbase - with their well used and beaten up Zeros falling apart. As described in Sakai's biography, one had an engine vibration so bad it tore its cowling off.

      Matthew Pham see like what he said you did not even watch the hole series to understand what is going on. Yes it is possible for Japan to build Something similar to F-4s during WW2 because the technicians and other scientists have their memories from the future. So it is 100% possible. And the Americans literally built B-30(basically b-29 with more defense)4 months after Pearl Harbor as well, I feel like that is more stupid. In 4 months, they design and tested and all those things in 4 months.

      Samurai COWBOY they lost 10,000 planes(just from the navy), 7 aircraft carriers, 15 battleships, 29 heavy cruisers, 36 light cruisers, 186 destroyers, 218 transports, 17 submarines(4 of which are I-400 type) within the whole series. That seems like a fair result. And by the way the German navy lost 10 aircraft carriers, 28 battleships, 15 heavy cruisers, 34 light cruisers, 207 destroyers, 538 transport and 83 submarines. And remember that Germany was in war with basically the whole world.

Remember he was not all that happy with his country going to war.

    • @randomv3iwer
      @randomv3iwer 9 років тому +24

      sh ha "so maybe he could change a little of the way they looked at the world as well." You remind me of myself years ago of how naive I was and saying emphatically everything Japanese is nice and changed to the better. Now I've been living in Japan for 3 years and I can confidently say: "We've been punked" Nationalistic attitude towards anything foreign is an everyday struggle. Romanticizing about a second chance to fight the enemy is deep hidden guilty pleasure that Japanese folks won't tell you unless you get them really drunk.
      And for this anime, You are wrong! Yamamoto did not change a thing. he still went on and attacked pearl harbor but this time the made sure war declaration was received so no one can call them cowards.

    • @MrTnstaafl1
      @MrTnstaafl1 9 років тому +1

      +randomv3iwer LOL well making sure you got the declaration of war there on time is a pretty big change if you ask me. But he changed other things as well, such as guiding the development in weapons and strategy, so why not a little in the political system as well, moving more power away from the army to the navy for example. Do remember that he was not that excited about going to war anyway. He even had his enemies consider him a "running dog" with death threats from other officers. Tried to stop the being allies with Germany in the late 30's. So why not try to turn the government a bit to the other side, especially when they see what he has to offer 30 years ahead of its time.
      But I understand the nationalistic zeal you are talking about, I am not certain when you were there but the 70's were just as active of the little black trucks with their bullhorns. Not to mention several family members happy married with some members of that nation. But I do not think I romanticize that much, just the histories I have researched and the people I have interviewed, not to mention the military education I received here in the states. But the argument is non-existent, this is alternative history, with very little of reality, the world of what if. What if Lee's order 191 did not fall into enemy hands, what if Hitler had let his generals fight the war, what if Lincoln had ducked to pick up his hat at the show, etc. Neither one of us can be right, because it would not happen. Better yet, what would you do, knowing past history and with the abilities you have. In this case the gentleman has all his knowledge intact including the mistakes to be made in the future. Besides alternative histories are there to think and enjoy. I remember going over many battles where the instructor would say "If" LOL.

    • @justforever96
      @justforever96 8 років тому +11

      +randomv3iwer Does that surprise you? Japanese are humans. They fought a very brave and bitter war, and took enormous losses, only to loose. That puts a real blot on the national psyche. Look what happened to Germany after WWI. If that Japanese didn't unconsciously resent having made those sacrifices for nothing, they wouldn't be human. Why do you think all though history, humans have constantly gone to war again and again? There is human pride, and there is national pride; if I get drunk at the bar, act like fool, pick a fight, and get clobbered, I might apologize the next day, and feel embarrassed for acting like fool...but I'll also both resent the fact that the other guy beat me, and I'll deep down resent the fact that I have to feel embarrassed for acting like a fool. Japan knows the US still judges them for their actions during the war; I'd be pissed too, if I was Japanese. The US didn't behave like saints, but they point the finger at the Japanese and act like they did nothing wrong, and that everything that happened was 100% Japans fault. People in the US have no problem with wanting to fight. In the US, when you say "we can kick anyone's ass, and we WILL if they try to order us around", it's just fine. But when another nation says "we don't have to listen to you! We'll fight you any time, anywhere! No-one tells us what to do!", the US calls it "nationalism" and treats it as a problem. The US would be furious of someone tried to order them around, and many US citizens would be more than happy to go to war over a perceived insult, but when another country refuses to do what the US says, and insinuates they'd rather fight than submit to being ordered around, the US calls it "provocation", and "nationalism". Why is all right for people in the US to act on their pride, and not other nations. In the US, people like to say they'd rather die than admit defeat for the US but when another country actually does it, it's some kind of evil act? Why should Japanese not be proud? They are a strong and proud people, with a long heritage. Was attacking the US the wisest course of action? No, but neither was it the most abhorant act in the history of mankind, like the US makes it out. For all the bad things that happened during the war, there are many more that the Japanese ought to be able to take pride in; they fought the most powerful nation in the world, against impossible odds, and they lasted a lot longer than any rational predication would suggest. The US likes to blame Japan for not giving up sooner, because it "caused unnecessary death", but at the same time they constantly spout homilies about "not giving up hope, no matter how bad things get", and "death before surrender!" It's hypocrisy.
      In any case, if you really expect Japanese to really just forget the whole thing, then you're wrong. I'm not saying they are going to start another war, or that they should. I'm just saying that the whole thing is a scar on the national psyche, and it's going to have it's effects, especially among youngsters. The older generation surrendered and had had enough of the death and suffering. The next generation grew up in their shadow, many grew up with the effect of the war still around them, and no one wanted to talk about it. But there is another generation of youngsters now, and it's the way of young men to want to prove themselves. That's how we keep ending up at war, the politicians keep exploiting the willingness of young men to go and fight...the way of the warrior, etc; having lost WWII just makes it worse. There is both a national humiliation there that they want to expunge, and a pride that they want to confirm, pride in that the Japanese once faced the US and managed to bloody them. So they are at once both aware that the Japanese are good warriors, and that there are still those who look down on them for having lost. It's a dangerous but natural combination.
      There is a similar problem in France; I can't tell you how much it annoys me to hear people telling jokes about France surrendering. It's bullshit; if it pisses me off, it must piss off young Frenchmen even more. France fought with appalling bravery during WWI, sending massed charges into the attack. They lost 3.5 MILLION men, but never gave up. Hitler managed to outmaneuver them, and they were forced to give up, and just because of THAT, they are now the butt of jokes in the other Allied nations? If Britain hadn't been protected by the Channel, she would have fallen just as fast; in the end they managed to barely hold out against the Luftwaffe alone, and somehow that gives them the right to laugh at the French. Where was Frances channel to hide behind when Germany attacked? But more important, what chance does France have of ever changing that reputation short of fighting another war and doing it in a way that no-one can call them cowards because of it. It's s different problem, but the same in some ways. We put these nations in situations by making jokes about them and pointing fingers, and wonder why some of them get defensive, and would rather fight than be peaceful about it?
      What bothers me most of all though, is still the US hypocrisy at being a proud, nationalistic and warlike nation who acts as if others were breaking the rules when they act the exact same way. Apparently Americans see no contradiction in being proud of their nation and ready to fight over any perceived insult, while insulting other nations freely and acting shocked when respond aggressively.

      Captain Picard alternate history, Japan won in the east out of slightly altered decisions/circumstances, US lost the Manhattan project in an air raid, US surrendered. tech advances scared Hitler who also happened to have apparently won in Europe (except for invading Britain), so he betrays japan and finally invades Britain, along with southeast Asia. (how Germany got the manpower is anyone's ridiculous guess) at this point, Britain and US are allied with Japan, so.... yeah. in short, the Fuhrer would not have shared power. I mean look what he did with the Soviets, though everyone knows Stalin was gonna stab the Germans in the back anyway otherwise.
