We use soft hand additive when we are going for a tonal look and love the way it turns out! Definitely does reduce the color and you need to be aware of that going into a design but it can provide a really cool effect on garments

I will probably move towards more water-based stuff in the near future. But, just starting out, I figured it would be best to go with Plastisol first to get the hang of printing.
And, I'm doing alright. One color stuff is easy and I've even set up and printed my first 3-color logo (for my painting biz). Looking to play with CMYK soon, but I want to get the registration part down a little better right now. My old eyes have a tough time seeing those little marks through the screens.

I have been using Chino to give a softer feel. This does the same thing to the darker shirts where it let's the shirt color show thru.

Thanks man. Would it be wise to cross ink brands? For instance, mixing this wilflex soft base (or wilfex curable reducer) with a rutland black ink?

Is this also an alternative to reach soft feel plastisol ink? I mean, I'll go with high mesh count but without using the reducer. Will reducer decrease the solidity of white ink if I add it to much? I want solid result but keep the sharpness and the thin/soft feel result. A bit confused here lol

Do you mean the mesh count? If so I'm using 230 in this design.

Will give that stuff a try for sure. I just switched to plastisols having started with water based inks not knowing any better. Thanks for the vid and keep 'em coming.

So there's no white underbase on that plastisol black shirt? I'm just getting into screen printing, all I bought is waterbased, since I didn't want to deal with the clean up of plastisol. I just assumed you had to do a white underbase on dark shirts.

There's no white underbase in this print. Having an underbase would be the best way to get the brightest print, but that would have defeated the purpose of this test I think. Adding more ink would lessen the soft hand feel.

u can discharge on the black tee and then do the soft hand plastisol and it will come out way better! @@joshisterrific

great video, just to make sure, you recommend using a white under base using water based ink and well, the rest of colors on top of it, right? So, i guess that a 5 layer print on water based ink is way softer than plastisol and the feel is more natural although it may look less vibrant.

I dont have a ton of experience with waterbased, to be honest, but I'd say the goal with wb ink is to have as little underbase as possible to keep that soft hand feel.

You can get the soft base from most screen print suppliers, here's where I got mine: www.screenprinting.com/products/wilflex-epic-fashion-soft-base
