I bought one Cutco knife from a neighbor's teenager who was selling them. It was $80, 20+ years ago and I thought it was super expensive, but it has been the best knife ever. I have not even had to sharpen it and it still cuts wonderfully. My niece recently was a sales person for them and I bought more knives, the amazing scissors, and the party set. These are quality built knives that give you decades of use.

I bought my first Cutco knife set 20 years ago on a whim. I had no concept of what good steel was. I lost most of them in a divorce about about 15 years ago, but managed to keep the scissors, bread knife and out door hunters knife. The scissors have been endlessly used over 20 years and can still cut thru penny's today. My bread knife still looks new and cuts thru bread just as well as the day we got them. I've finally just ordered a complete new set. Cant wait to get them!

@@elliottatwell1155 Elliot, I have to disagree with you. I've had the Cutco table knives for about 35 years now. I've had other German knives, too, that were supposed to be great, and were good. But I still have my Cutco knives and they still cut like they did when I first got them. I must say, they lived up to their reputation and I would buy them again . . . but, apparently, they will outlast me! They are light, thin bladed, serrated, and well-balanced. They feel good in the hand, and simply just work. Really, I can't say enough good things about them.

John Doe the cutco table knives are serrated, they could be completely blunted at the apex and still cut because of the serrations just like the teeth of a saw. 440A is still garbage steel. Here’s an edge retention chart; www.heinnie.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Edge-retention.jpg . Nowadays VG-10 is considered the minimum standard for quality stainless kitchen cutlery steel, and the only steels that perform worse than 440A are 420 stainless which you’ll find in $8 wal mart knives, and H1 which is a non martensitic steel meant for rust free use in saltwater.

You can buy some equally nice knives, and more importantly, knives that perform as well or better than Cutco for half the price! Mercer and Victorinox make very good knives which perform for around $40. Dexter knives are decent and are not as expensive as Cutco. There is a reason culinary students and commercial kitchens are using all three brands I just mentioned.

In Canada 1998, friends of mine had a Cutco knife party. (Like a Tupperware party) Although we couldn't afford the whole set, my spouse at the time and I wanted to support our friend and bought the two cheapest knives. (Price-wise not quality)The trimmer and I believe a pairing knife that I didn't see mentioned here. If I remember correctly it was around $35 for the trimmer but don't quote me) My ex got custody of the pairing knife when we split and I got the trimmer. I cook a lot and mostly from scratch, then and now so it wasn't just a pretty ornament decorating my kitchen. I wanted both. They never used theirs and threw it away when they remarried. (I enquired hoping if it wasn't needed anymore I could get it back. Haha and darn!)
I came to this video because two months ago when I moved the knife had accidentally been left behind and I was trying to see if I could afford on my disability pention, to replace it. They are the best knives I have been able to afford to use. Over 20 years later and they looked and cut like new. Not a scratch after two decades of hard exclusive use unless I needed a large chef or larger bread knife. I haven't even had to sharpen it though not as sharp as when originally purchased it was still very sharp after all these years. After my bragging about it and her using it in my home, one of my previous PSW's ( personal support worker) even went out and bought a set and she said a couple of her relatives/friends did as well after hearing what I had said or seeing them in action.
Unfortunately, understandably, the guarantee wouldn't cover a lost knife so I am hoping I can afford another. One of the other benefits to me, because they are so sharp, is that it take less effort and strain to use and that helps much with my severe arthritis(RA) Less pain for me. It has sometimes made the difference with me being able to prepare a meal for myself and my child or not and that is important to me. It is not often you'd hear a knife would add quality to your life but in truth to mine it did.
I don't think I have ever given a product comment before but I have been nothing but pleased with my knife and felt I had to add my voice. It surpassed my original expectation and I compare all other knives against it as a result. I'll keep dreaming of the others I want as well cuz hey, dreams are free! :D. . I may not be able to afford them right now but if you can, they are definitely worth it.

I own two Cutco knives because they were given to me. The steel is not bad at all, softer compared to the popular Japanese knives but it does take a good edge. It just has to be honed & sharpened more often. What baffles me is the ergonomics, specifically the crazy handles that are on these knives. I have no idea where this design came from and how it relates to the human hand. I cook and use my knives every day, sometimes all day long. I avoid using the Cutco for the reason of its ergonomics. If you changed that handle around, even to a more traditional one, and...(this is my second beef) make the chef’s knife blade a bit wider to accommodate the chopping action better, I would consider buying your product. A chef’s knife, also called the ‘cooks’ knife or ‘French’ knife should be designed to be the general go-to knife in any kitchen and it has been developed through the years and narrowed down to a certain design . The large concave primary bevel on your knives is sort of a blow back to the 70’s and it bothers some people, but I find it ok. My favorite knife to hold & use ergonomically is the Wüstoff Ikon line, the steel is quite good too. Favorite fine steel is on the Misono.Again, I think your steel is fine and when honed to snuff cuts beautifully. I just would like to see the relationship from handle to hand improved.

I have the Wusthof Ikon and Classic. Love both and they are both quite comfortable to use all day. Cutco needs to upgrade their steel. 440A, no matter the heat treat and temper, is still a budget steel which doesn't hold an edge as long as similar priced high end knives. If you are going to charge $100+ per knife, then it better hold an edge as long as the competition. VG-10, which is used by Shun, holds an edge longer and is quite corrosion resistant. I noticed that many of the steels like 50CrMoV15 in high end knives which contain vanadium take a razor sharp micro edge cause of the smaller vanadium carbides vs just chromium carbides which are larger.
