    Have you had a CUTCO experience? What happened?

    • @TheGreatestAlways

      Yeah....The small knife is not meant to cut raw chicken. I was helping my sister cook chicken sandwiches, and I tried to use the small knife to cut off any noticeable chicken fat. It wasn't the best choice...

    I received present of a full set of knives with all the accessories in 1973. In 2020 I sent to Cutco 8 steak knives, a ladle, a spatula, and a chef knife. All were in great shape but the handles were in need of polishing. The ladle also rattled. I received new replacement items for all I sent with a note saying Cutco preferred replacement instead of refinishing for everything I sent. After 40 years. Who does that. Cutco did.
    Amazing company.

    Shun has the same policy. Send in the knives, they come back sharpened. I paid like ten bucks in shipping. They reshaped one too much, and I got a new one. We have a six piece Cutco set also. They hold an edge like crazy and are tough. Great knives that are a lot more durable and just as sharp as our Shun set. The Shun's are really fragile and the tips chip very easily. Cutco gets some crap about their "cheap" steel, but the good old 440 does not chip, the edge with a simple steel can be restored in a couple swipes. My Shun's are really difficult to sharpen.

    My parents got a set for their wedding. They've been married over 50yrs and my mom used nothing else those 50 yrs. She's had them sharpened locally. I don't think she knew she could send them in. I ran into a cutco rep recently and he said send them in, they'll probably send her some new ones. Haven't tried yet. I'm not a huge fan of their ergonomics. But it's hard to argue with some that's lasted through daily use for over 50 yrs.

    • @NotNormalBehavior
      @NotNormalBehavior  6 місяців тому +2

      Wow....50 years of use out of a set of knives. Of course, that pales in comparison to your mom and dad being faithful and true to their promise, and staying together for over 50 years. Such dedication is rare these days... Congratulations to them both!

  • @Lon1001
    @Lon1001 Місяць тому +1

    Seems as much as people want to hate them, they do customer service exceptionally and the knives seem to perform better than they should. My concern about the burn marks isn't the esthetics as much as it is the effects on the heat treatment of the edge. My mother in law has owned a set for decades and her knives always stay razor sharp even without her doing anything at all to them to hone the edge, for 440A at 56 HRC this should not be possible. Every few years her rep does comes by to sharpen them.

    Love Cutco. I sold them for about a month and that was really about as long as I could sell them in my area. The only part of Cutco that I would say is a bit of a scam is the people hiring the sales people. They came and hired a bunch of people in this small town and telling us how we could make a career out of selling Cutco. Not really feasible in a small town. Pretty much the whole town was contacted by a sales person within a week after they hired all of us. I grew up in an even smaller town nearby though and did most of my sales there. I made a good amount in that month, but I wasn’t expecting much. I was just between jobs and needed some income right then.
    Sadly we recently had a house fire and lost all of our Cutco. I had my set from showing and my mom had some she bought from me. We had them a long time and while expensive, they are worth it to me. I contacted Cutco and they won’t replace knives damaged in a fire which is understandable, but they are offering half off to us which is pretty great.

    When I was a kid, about 5 or 6 years old, my parents bought a set of Cutco knives. I remember that the saleman cut a penny in half with the shears and I was impressed. They still have the knives and I'm 60 years old. They still look brand new. They've replaced only 1 knife, and my parent's knives are so old that they have a slightly different handle - non-faceted. They love those knives.

    Honestly i’m interested in the hunting knife in double d and even though its a cheap stamped 440a blade there’s just something about it that’s calling my name. If it were sold in a cheap section i don’t know if i would buy, but the sharpening and warranty on them make sense to me though for the price. I might pick one up this stampede

    Love my Cutco. Had it for 23 years. Other high end knife companies will sharpen your knives but not replace them. Cutco is the only company that will replace a 30 year old knife. I’ve done extensive research and they will only sharpen. Sometimes knives are beyond their useful life and cannot be sharpened effectively.

    I bought my knives around 2000. It was expensive but reasonable, well within my reach. The prices have skyrocketed however. I'm unsure whether the life-time guarantee is worth it, they are so expensive now. But on the other hand, they do honor the guarantee, so you'll never have to buy replacements. I got super glue on my shears (which by the way are amazing!) and sent them in for cleaning. They couldn't get the glue off so they sent me a brand new pair. They cost about $100 at the time, and they were sent to me for free. There were no questions asked about how the glue got on there, whether it was my fault, nothing like that. I was an idiot and cut a super glue tube open with my shears (in retrospect, that was ridiculously stupid). My fault, I did it, no question about it. But I still got a brand new set of shears. I'm thinking about sending in one of my serrated knives to be sharpened. The serrated knives can be sharpened, which is highly unusual. Usually a dulled serrated knife is impossible to sharpen and is a piece of junk after its normal life time. I bought them from a friend's little brother, who was in college. He sold a certain amount of them, and then the market was saturated. It wasn't promised as a permanent job, no lies there. He sold some and then was done. I never heard him complain. I think I was one of his biggest sales. I was already on the market for a good set of knives and was ready to invest a lot of money for heirloom quality knives. And that's what I got. If you ever find cutco products at a thrift store or garage sale, jump on them. You don't have to have receipts proving purchase to get them serviced or replaced. They just have to have the cutco logo on blade. I'm thinking of buying a couple of pairs of super shears for Christmas gifts. They really are out of sight! They will cut ANYTHING, and can be easily separated and put through the dishwasher. Every package of bacon I buy, I open with these, then run them through the dishwasher to get the disgusting raw pork juice off. Very convenient. I do not regret my investment.
