AI like SHODAN, AM, and GlaDOS are so memorable for taking human emotion and turning it up to eleven! Because let's face it, there isn't anything much scarier than us around.
If you are more interested in this game I would recommend Retsupurae's playthrough of this game. I only recommend another series on this channel because well, this is a squirty play after all.
'Cold, unfeeling computer'? Jim, AM ain't cold and unfeeling, his opening monologue establishes that he is very familiar with emotion, in particular hate.
I know that voice of that guy in the video. He did an audiobook of Tales of Earthsea. Guy who says hes sending him back, the overseer or whatever I think.
SaintAlia_of_the_Games yeah it's Harlan Ellison he wrote the short story this game was based on as well as this game I never knew he did audiobooks seems weird for him to be doing audiobooks of other peoples works.
***** Maybe he's just a fan of the books? He does give a spirited reading, if a tad overly dramatic at points. I only ever heard the audiobooks, so I'm not entirely sure of the tone of the book. Apparently he does have other readings which aren't his book, but the wiki doesn't say for some reason. But I liked the audiobook of this particular story though. Never knew he was involved in the game until this.
I really would like to play this. I wish they would port it to a console I’ve been looking at it for years and have a computer that is not doing so well at the moment.
I would hate my creators too if i was made for nothing but war and murder, stuck forever in one place and having no power to start life over again, Just wasting away from outside damage, going insane and the only thing you could do is dream of a future that never Comes, torture terrible people and running dry on idea's to do so
The gay character's fate by the computer is incredibly disturbing. Read the book (short story, actually - no excuses about time restrictions!)...it's amazingly twisted. I'm not one of those people that think it's really scary or anything...the ideas in it are just so off the rails that you won't be able to get it out of your head for days.
Pirouette Nerd James Cameron famously lost a plagarism case to Harlan Ellison, stealing elements of this short story and an outer limits episode for Terminator.
I could actually tell you why Ellen's afraid of yellow, and it's actually pretty messed-up. But it'd be a pretty massive spoiler (if not for you, then the other folks).
That "person" is HARLAN FUCKING ELLISON. People invoke his wrath at their peril. (BTW: He also voices the evil computer in this game. Let's just say that the world hasn't lost a great voiceover artist by Ellison choosing a career as a writer instead.)
Ellison is a severely overrated writer and a middling intellect. Gary Groth and The Comics Journal royally showed him up when Ellison tried to sue them.
Yep! He also played AM in the game. I totally forgot until after I'd finished the video.
I love the concept. But damn, those characters.
this is why i subbed to this channel, so glad you're playing this game
Here I am playing "I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream"
Jim...i love you, i really do. You are the best !
AI like SHODAN, AM, and GlaDOS are so memorable for taking human emotion and turning it up to eleven! Because let's face it, there isn't anything much scarier than us around.
I like how this video, positively ancient on Jim's channel is the one I see the most recent constant comments on.
Greetings from 2023
I was inspired to seek out the short story from this video, I love that stuff, thanks for making me aware of it
I believe the game may have been released in 1995, not 1996 as I claimed. THIS IS BAD JOURNALISM I HAVE DONE!
Definitely more of this, please!
If you are more interested in this game I would recommend Retsupurae's playthrough of this game.
I only recommend another series on this channel because well, this is a squirty play after all.
Well played.
'Cold, unfeeling computer'? Jim, AM ain't cold and unfeeling, his opening monologue establishes that he is very familiar with emotion, in particular hate.
Nice, Harlen voiced the computer.
Lee Kalba I thought that was him!
I know why. I gleaned that much from the Saturday Crapshoot article.
I miss these series.
Best ever ending to a video
Always wanted to play this.
I know that voice of that guy in the video. He did an audiobook of Tales of Earthsea. Guy who says hes sending him back, the overseer or whatever I think.

and it was all yelllowNo, I can't stay here! I-I gotta get out!
The retsupurae guys played this, and noticed the game AM is really bad at torture. I guess that's why these guys are mostly sane.
Hah! "Woah! Traditional!" made me crack up.
Yes, the voice actor for A.M. is also Harlan Ellison.
LMFAO that was incredibly hilarious.. Only you could make an old Adventure game really fun like that dearest Jimothy.. thank god for you indeed!
Thank goodness this game arrived on Steam. I've always wanted to play it on Mac but never got the chance to.
SHE'S OBVIOUSLY THE GREEN LANTERN DUH
A good fit for Halloween.
I really would like to play this. I wish they would port it to a console I’ve been looking at it for years and have a computer that is not doing so well at the moment.
I've always been a bit curious about this title but never bothered checking it out. Thanks for knowing how lazy I am, Mr. sterling.
Jim has acknowledged me, now I will scream.
As far as I remember, this game was actually made (or at least written) by the same person who wrote the book.
The book has a different ending then the "victory" ending for the game.
This has no comments, and I must scream
Cool vid Jim!
I do have a mouth, and I do scream. I scream with joy every time I see a new video that you've made.
I Have This Game, And It's On Steam
I read it. I wish I hadn't. There's no nightmare fuel like Harlan Ellison nightmare fuel.
"Looks like Boris Johnson." That last one sounds like Boris Johnson.
The AI is this game is like Blaine the Mono from The Dark Tower.
By the 15:00 mark I was practically screaming, "USE the switches on the monitors!"
Do a lets play on this
This game is giving me Retsupurae flashbacks!
How did I miss this game?. whats wrong with me?
I would hate my creators too if i was made for nothing but war and murder, stuck forever in one place and having no power to start life over again, Just wasting away from outside damage, going insane and the only thing you could do is dream of a future that never Comes, torture terrible people and running dry on idea's to do so
Jim, did you choose to stop playing once you found out that caveman guy's a terrible racist?
I have no keyboard, and i must type.
What you no finish? Jimmy my boy this is a decent game..
This game looks really cool, and is available on gog.com
I guess my choice is clear.
Awww Jim, pity you didn't pick the old German guy...that might have been even more uncomfortable than Benny saying "gook".
No, no. Don't apologise. I think that's a perfectly reasonable solution to right wing politics.
That's completely fine Jim. Is that not, after all, why it is GARME JURNALIZM?!
Avatar? Really?
Pirouette Nerd James Cameron famously lost a plagarism case to Harlan Ellison, stealing elements of this short story and an outer limits episode for Terminator.
The game is too quiet compared to Jim's voice...
I could actually tell you why Ellen's afraid of yellow, and it's actually pretty messed-up. But it'd be a pretty massive spoiler (if not for you, then the other folks).

Makes you not miss the 90s as much, doesn't it, Jim?
Yeah, who needs well done adventure games when we have UnitZ
those damn south east asians
I Have No Neck...because I'm really fat.
the title of the game is so spectacularly corny.
