I absolutely love hard candy ....the spirit and sound of her debut pop/disco/r&b but modernised. I don't get the hate some fans have for it all....Great, cohesive album...and her personal struggles with her failing marriage are as apparent as they are in this interview. Best artist ever 🙌
Id say at the time, it was the first album madonna had made where she didn’t showcase her own sound or push a new sound forward. It was very Timbaland/Pharrell/JT dominant. So for fans, especially coming off a stellar era like Confessions, it just didn’t seem progressive. Not to mention she was super late to that sound. Every artist had already made timbaland albums by that point and Pharrell was seen as sort of passé as well. The album sounded of its time but also so were the criticisms for it. Because now that we’re so far removed from that era and 2008 in general. And shes had a worse album since this one (MDNA), hard candy can be looked back upon from a more forgiving viewpoint. Its always been at least enjoyable and now it has nostalgia on its side as well.
Madonna here reminds me of the Madonna that was interviewed when she arrived on MTV in 1983 up to 1985. She was so intelligent in the early years and then she got mega bitchy as time went on. This interview is very of the younger Madonna, she is very pleasant here and happy to talk music.

Her first facelift was already back in 2003, here she has used botox since 99/00 regurarly and the first filler in 2007, you can see the cheeks, but nothing is overdone yet, things went downhill after 2009

She deserves to be loved as wel as her family 👪 ❤. Express yourself is the outcome that works for her. Here she is an adult. Somehow she regressed to being a young twenty something ... but, I mean,... it is not a bad thing per sé of course... but it seems so... different personalities coming out. Almost like it is a psychological change... it is fascinating though. It is like a change happening to adolescents ... one day they are the cute regular kid and then all of a sudden they dress like Marilyn Manson or like a hip-hopper.... She changed after her divorce... Here she seemed like sophisticated .... now she is like... I wonder if she's mentally healthy right now.... since like when she was biking around on stage on the kid's bike dressed like a clown.... I mean.... if she was my sister or mother or close friend..... the worrying thing is also that she is disrespecting herself, disrespecting her body.... she let's (probable men, male surgeons) cut into her body. Perhaps he was a dominant force in her life, partly also deciding what she looked like, because that is what he loved? And now to fully get away from him and perhaps to hurt him, but also perhaps to not recognise herself anymore as the image that Guy Ritchie loves, she totally modifies herself into a totally unrecognisable form.... I'd be worried if I was close to her. But people with this much power and money.... like Elvis, the man looked ill in the last stages of his life.... he should have retired, and go somewhere peaceful ... in stead he was performing.... audiences applauded him while he clearly did not look well and the people around him also didn't stop him. Not better than Confessions but a good album. A lot of songs left out that should’ve been put in.
We might yet get a Hard Candy special edition with Across The Sky etc. Would be a much better album for it. Here’s hoping, I guess
