It shows how much the bar has fallen when thirty years ago people were appalled by the idea of artists not performing with a live band behind them and nowadays rappers will go onstage and just shout random lines of their songs while the full, unedited track plays through speakers.

In my opinion concerts should be what the fans and genre accept.
I've literally been to concerts where the main performers weren't even real people (but there was a live band) and the vibe of the concert was still great

The funny part about Nirvana barreling in & wiping out pretty much every artist of the time was that Kurt Cobain was actually a very quiet pop fan. He drew inspiration from several different pop acts & in a way, became something of a pop act himself. Between having to maintain the anti-bubblegum persona he was boxed into & the shame of “selling out” in the punk community, he rarely discussed it publicly but several people close to him have confirmed it. And I like that! It humanizes him in a way I don’t think a lot of people get a chance to see.

The accusation about "Grunge" wiping out the standard of commercial music back in the early 90's is a sort of myth. It was actually radio and music video station programmers along with record companies that did it... by force. There were many Alternative/grunge songs that saturated top 40 radio and especially MTV and only a handful of them charted well no matter how many times they were spun. Adult Contemporary/ Pop music actually dominated the early 90's. Hip Hop & R&B took over in the mid 90's. Then teen pop came back BIG in the late 90's into the early 00's

More people need to realize the pop aspect of Nevermind. Kurt was eyeing catchy melodies, instantly recognizable intros, and world domination. Nirvana was a boy-band with a grunge front.

NKOTB were such a huge part of my childhood. They were cheesy as hell but it worked, their songs were so catchy and I still listen to them to this day when I'm feeling nostalgic. I saw them on their reunion tour in 2008 and it was magical. And I don't remember them lipsyncing at all.

New Edition heavily inspired NKOTB. They deserve recognition. Just like we recognize that the Jackson 5 inspired NE, NE deserves recognition for inspiring so many boy bands in the 90s and 2000s. Hell, even Boy II Men took inspiration from NE. That’s how they got their name.

I had the blessing to watch them live in 1990 at The Magic Summer Tour and last July in The Mixtape Tour and both were incredible shows. They didn't lip sync on both shows.
I think NKOTB was underrated back in the 90s due to their merchandising stuff; it became bigger than their music and talent. In fact, Face the Music had great reviews by the critics, but the demand wasn't there and the guys were worn off then. Music Industry should pay respect for NKOTB because, even though New Edition could be the blueprint for Modern Boy Bands, it was NKOTB who set the bar so boy bands now could be seen as valuable acts in the industry.
Thanks for this video, Honest. It's good to see someone today giving them the respect and recognition they truly deserve.

If it weren’t for New Edition and New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys and NSYNC wouldn’t have been formed. Lou Pearlman, who put to get BSB and NSYNC, saw the success of NKOTB and wanted to replicate that.

I think that other acts such as Janet Jackson faced criticism for doing heavy dance pop, new jack swing and rnb at the beginning of her career. Many claimed she didn't sing but, at least to me, she really sells the emotion of what she's singing about. And she's a very commanding dancer, with impeccable choreographies and amazing music videos. Nowadays, people are more open into realizing what makes an artist more unique. Not everyone has to exceed at the same field or meet the same landmarks.

I loved Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson and Paula Abdul as an 8 year old. I used to have Rhythm Nation on VHS and used to try and copy Janet's dance moves 😂. She has recently been giving interesting interviews to coincide with a Vegas residency. I will always have a soft spot for her music. I think that she can sing, but like you said she is also a dancer, and a song writer and producer. Her music has always been more interesting to me than these sugar sweet power ballads sang by divas. Rhythm Nation had themes based on black feminism and poverty. She stepped out of her famous brother's shadow.

New Kids On The Block took major risks that could have hurt their careers. Donnie spoke his mind about injustice and even wore a Public Enemy shirt in the Step By Step video. They also took a major risk by singing R&B so they definitely made it easier for other white artists who came after them who sang R&B like Jon B, Robin Thicke and Justin Timberlake. I think they should get more recognition for the risks they took. I have nothing but respect for them and I hope a movie is made about them. New Edition got a movie, they deserve one too.

I bought there album in middle school when no one else in my school was really rockin their shit. I didn’t care. I liked their music. One thing I kinda take issue with is the notion that the whole boy band thing is innovative. They’re singing pop and r&b. Young black artists have been doing the same thing for years. It’s only unique and interesting when white kids do it, then they give it a new name “boy band”. It’s a nonsense category imo.

Interesting. The only one in New Kids on the Block that could sing was Jordan Knight (barely). They have a really nice song entitled _Never Let You Go_ from 1994's _Face the Music._ I like that song because it reminds me so much of Al B. Sure. I can hear him on that song. Anyhow, who were New Kids on the Block signed to? Which label? Need I say more? The President of that label was gon make sure it worked out for his favorite artists/bands. I believe he was the most powerful man within the music industry during the time. I don't think they were "Milli Vanilli." They simply couldn't sing. I don't believe they had ghost vocals on they songs. It's so interesting watching how the Milli Vanilli story done changed so much throughout the years. The President of they label went on record and stated that he had no idea about what was going on. That's interesting because back then, *NOTHING* hit the airwaves until it was given the green light by the President. Milli Vanilli went on record and stated that they were just doing what they were told to do. Who told them what to do? How did the President not know about what was going on? The same thing goes for C + C Music Factory. The President of they label didn't know what was going on as well. He knew Ms. Martha Wash was singing on them songs. Anyhow, Paula Abdul just couldn't sing. Bottom line. No way around it. See, here's the thing about music/singing (in America). Most Americans do not care about the small stuff. That means they ain't gon be sitting around picking apart a performance determined to find out whether it's lip-sync or not. Most Americans do not care. Pop fans of New Kids on the Block, Madonna, etcetera simply do not care. They pay to see they favorite artists and they keep it movin'. On top of that, you also had major artists who simply didn't sound like they records whenever they were live. If you gon be boppin' around like Ms. Janet Jackson then yes, lip-sync. If you gon be standing in one place singing a ballad then you need to sing live. Things sorta changed for my era because the late '90s/early aughts era had some decent singers. ★NSYNC (Justin & J.C.) could actually sing. The rest of them sounded awful. Christina Aguilera could obviously sing. Backstreet Boys, 5ive, etcetera couldn't sing, but the music was jammin' (provided you were of that demographic). I knew they couldn't sing, but guess what? I didn't give a fuck at all. I listened to the music, didn't put too much thought behind it and moved right on to the next one.

I saw NKOTB on their Mixtape tour this past June, and they didn't lipsync at all.

The New Kids are far better and the best boy band in history, no other boy bands before them beside the Backstreet Boys. Come close, not even One Direction.
One Direction was a squeaky clean boy group, nothing wrong with that. Maybe that’s not their fault, but their music don’t really bring. Anything great on the table. Unlike New Kids did, all of 1D music and albums sounds the same.
Maybe except their last album was a little different, but they still the same. Plus, I wouldn’t say they didn’t make great. They have good and awesome music, it just like every groups and solo artists, they just starts to slowly losing their audience.
    That really nothing new

I love the New Kids but if you are going to compare them with the Backstreet Boys, BSB will always be better. All BSB members can sing and dance. In NKOTB, only Jordan is the legit singer. Also, BSB is the best selling boy band of all time and the most successful one. Their Millennium album is the best selling boy band of all time. Their debut album 'Backstreet Boys' is also the best selling boy band debut album of all time. NKOTB may be the OG white sing and dance boy group but BSB, which is the second boy band during that time, will always be the best

@@Pirikaprililala I never said or compare that BSB were better NKOTB or NKOTB were BSB, I was just saying no other boy band like 1D would be like NKOTB/BSB.

@@DinoTechTurboCharge I though you said NKOTB is the best boy band in history. While NKOTB is the OG white boy band, still it's BSB who is the rightful to be called best boy band in history since they have numbers to prove that

Did you really say they haven’t released new music since 1994?! I guess “The Block” from 2008 never happened then? Or the new material they released as NKOTBSB in 2011? Or “10” in 2013?
