Your Steve Millen story is similar to one I had. Last year, a bunch of friends and I were road tripping our 996 Porsches from Chicago to Tail of the Dragon. A guy who worked in Porsche in late 80's/early 90's in Germany stopped by and talked to us about our cars. Turned out he had a hand in developing the 959.
Nice to see a 928 being put to it's original use. It was a grand tourer designed to combine performance and handling with the ability to do long drives in comfort. Nice to see it can still pull it off.
*its
Better bring a volt meter and plenty of wire
Both those cars are money pits.
@@lptomtom thank you, unofficial UA-cam editor.
After a health issue I bought a 928 as therapy and it’s worked! I don’t trust mine enough to travel more than 4hrs round trip. That’ll change soon😊
If you can road-trip these bad boys I have no excuse for not taking my BRZ on trips. ED was my (re)introduction to enthusiast driving and five years later content like this keeps you guys as my number 1.
Thank you! We greatly appreciate you watching and being with us. Yes, definitely road trip you BRZ!
Brz on the blue ridge and smokies was fantastic . Much better than the flat and boring of Florida here
Got a 2013 Brz as well. I am itching.
Oh no don't put miles on a subaru
I've been amazed with all the cars that wear the "GT" name, how many tires are labeled "Grand Touring", how much media references Grand Touring.. and yet how few people take sporty cars out of town for real - grand - tours.
That comment about the Z32 not needing massive BMW-style cooling vents is some hilarious foreshadowing 😂
Ps: an OEM Jspec front bumper may be an improvement worth looking into. They look great and seem to flow quite a bit more air. I've got one for my LS swap Z32
Debatable. Was doing 100mile trips per day in my NA in 110* weather for months. Guessing he doesn’t have the plenum coolant deletes so he can’t see the coolant that is leaking and just topping off.
Unless it’s all oem replaced hoses it looks like he’s running all stock hoses. Not even a good idea for city driving let alone road trips.
Is it possible to get route or roads you have taken.
Love this series guys, and makes me appreciate my Z32 300ZX TT even more. You bring up an excellent point, how the Z and Porsche barely have any openings and managed heat just fine (except at 11,000 feet lol). I've driven my Z on several 800-1000 mile trips, in traffic, all kinds of weather, and the car never complains. Temps remain almost exactly the same, and it has nearly 80,000 miles now. Now car designers seem to start the design with the grill first, and everything revolves around all the openings.
Might be the compression ratio and oil thickness. Way thinner oil and higher compression nowadays plus emissions. I'm sure cooler engine less emissions issues, plus the need to burn more completely. Running richer to protect the engine and stay within more reasonable emissions standards back then didn't require the venting that we do now. The z4 and m3s nd stuff might be overkill but i would think the newer engines do require more cooling
My 20 year old Sequoia isn't a sports car, but it has the capability of going anywhere I point it and back without a second thought. I was lucky enough in my youth to hit most of the major western national parks in the 90s in the back of my parents' minivan. I'm gradually retracing my path with my own kids in tow now. It's been a great experience with them so far!
I just recently bought a 25 year old Miata. First thing I did was upgrade to a larger (40%) core aluminium radiator. Old cars don’t like Australian summer heat and traffic! Peace of mind is so worth it! I felt your pain, Todd!
It's absolutely crazy you met Steve Millen in Wyoming. I live in Montana and have driven my '91 300ZX TT from one coast to the other. Only problem I had was going through death valley she got a little warm and had to turn the A/C off for a while and my Optima battery EXPLODED in CA 😆
These guys and this channel is the most underrated car channel on UA-cam. I love these guys, the cars they drive and these trips! Well produced too.
Thank you. We consider this a big compliment. We’re very thankful to have you watching and hope you’ll share with someone else that may enjoy this film.
I used to drive my 928 between Los Angeles and Napa CA for years. Honestly, it is one of the greatest road trip cars ever made and it makes me happy to see more people using it for what it does best.
As a person with a C6 Corvette that is used primarily for very long road trips, I have been really enjoying this series. With the presenters coming from Utah, it is saying something that they are so impressed with this scenery in Montana...stunning! Definitely a sports car destination.
If it hasn't been already said here...
EverydayDriver has been putting out some of the best if not the best road trip videos in youtube. (And I've watched many a road trip video...)
Huge Thank You! We hope you’ll share this, and we greatly appreciate you watching and commenting!
I had a '90 Z32 TT back in '98, looked exactly like Todd's Z (minus the Nissan badge on the nose which didn't begin until '91). It was a great touring GT, and I miss it. I love these road trips, keep doing them!
This is what UA-cam makes great these days. Oh boy have I been watching this. I am 47 years old, got my drivers license 4 weeks ago (yes, no typo) and the Z32 has always been the car of my dreams. This video is so epic..... just .... thank You, guys!
Get one...I had one for about 8 years and regret selling it every single day. It's one of the prettiest cars ever made IMO. I purchased a 986 boxster about 15 years ago which is why I sold it and I love that car too but the z was a great coupe and just a different driving car.
This is my favourite series on UA-cam. You two guys with these 2 cars on these incredible roads... I love it so much. I'm up in eastern Canada, but a Pacific Coast highway road trip is still one of my life goals because of you guys. 😎👍
This episode was a bit like the Top Gear Patagonia special, especially driving on the unbuilt road.
We consider that a huge compliment. Thank you!!
I love the dynamic you guys have, and the pure car-loving enthusiasm you both have.
While I don't live in the US so probably won't ever get a chance to drive those amazing roads, I have spent this video planning a small road trip for the New Year and in part, your love of cars helped remind me that I was in a position this year to buy a car with the heart rather than just the sensible head.
I'm sure these trips take a lot of planning and production, but they are so good and as someone un the UK who grew up on modern Top Gear, I would put you efforts right up with some of the best that show gave us.
Thank you. We are very flattered by your comments and a Top Gear road trip comparison. We’re thrilled every time these trips inspire others and we’re glad to have you watching. Please share this with others who might enjoy. Many thanks!!
Love scenery that makes you want to be in it when you see it from a distance.
I love the big foot sightings and poor Chance! His job is thankless ! Great work guys. Please let us know what happened to the coolant on the Z.
I never thought I’d need to fear for my life while on a shoot!
This brought back many memories of driving in that area back in my Navy days. This was in the early 90's and my only car was an '88 IROC-Z, 305 TPI, 5spd car. We even did a 2 week BC and Alberta Rockies tour with it in '92. I never had any idle issues at high altitude and the only time it ran warmer than normal was climbing heavy grades in 5th at high load and under 2500 rpm. Shifting to 4th solved that issue. Seems your sensor input to your engine management might be the culprit for many of your issues. That and lost efficiency with scale buildup, etc. for the cooling system. Keep making these kind of videos please! I enjoy them a lot.
I'm not sure where to start but let me share that I'm so grateful for this video for the way it was done, where you went and the timing of its release. As I sit here the snow plows are going by and we're confronted with wind chills of -40 degrees F. The Beartooth Highway was amazing, so many good memories, and so was the road through Glacier (a new place to go). My heart aches to road trip right now, so while this was great, it hurts, four months until Spring. Thanks again gentlemen!
If you are headed to Arizona on your trip south, one fun road is US60 south of Show Low, Arizona. It runs through the Apache reservation with lots of sweeping turns and elevation changes. When I drove it southbound in May of 2016, there was hardly any traffic. The only part that sucked was hitting major construction well before running into metro Phoenix. If you take it, you will want to see what happened to that big road redo.
Good on you guys! Said it before, will say it again - simply marvelous stuff. I've got a 6-speed manual swapped Toyota Soarer (Lexus SC to you guys) with the 1JZ engine. But with two little kids, a road trip like this is outside the realm of possibility for me right now. So I live vicariously through you both
Yeah guys …. This was PHENOMENAL!
Great episode. My rebuilt and restored 928 S4 will see Glacier next Sept. Road trip about 5,000 miles in it every year (and do projects every winter). It’s finally “done”. Put in a larger aluminum radiator with big dual fans and rebuilt the A/C. Runs cool now, inside and down the road. Also wrapped the exhaust and put extra sound deadening and close cell foam under the carpets to manage heat and road noise.
I put Stillen dual tip cat backs on my 94' 300ZX na 5spd. 20 yr owner. Still waiting to bump into Millen.Road Trip!
My wife and I drove from Florida to southern California on the southern I-10 route in 1987 in a rental truck with her car in tow. I remember us stopping for a picnic lunch at a desolate spot in western Texas somewhere east of Ft. Stockton and how remote it was. It gave us a real feeling of appreciation for the vastness and natural beauty of these areas.
I turn to watch for the cars, I stay for the scenery. Thank you for great videos.
Another fantastic video from Everyday Driver! The scenery, the cars and the jokes. What a perfect combination!
BTW, Paul's "pillow talk"......... Yeah. I may have snorted a bit.🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for watching! We’re very glad you enjoyed. And yes… Paul’s pillow talk had us laughing in the edit room.
One of your best videos yet. A great combination of creating a story around the cars, the roads, scenery and the drama involved with driving an older car a long distance. I felt like I was in the passenger seat the whole time.
Thank you. We’re glad you connected with this trip in the way we hoped. Thrilled to have you watching!
The passion for the enthusiast's auto that you guys share is on display in every one of these road trip videos. If you don't feel the need to take on a trip of your own after viewing these I don't know if you can call yourself a true car person. The bond between friend, car, and the road can't be beat. Thank you both (and your crew) for all you do to share the love!
I went on a similar trip (more hiking oriented) two years ago. Paul is right Glacier has to be one of the greatest national parks in the country. Thank you for filming it. Also glad to see the Beartooth Highway get some screen time as well. Hopefully you can make a trip back with better mechanical reliability. That is a road worthy of filming as well. Just excellent
I love watching your shows anytime of the day. Sometimes just playing it in the background while working on my computer, as if I’m riding with you guys. Even better when you drive an old Porsche.
Did those roads a few times in my Miata. Having the top down....no matter the temperature....made all the difference in the world!
Going westbound through death valley is another gorgeous yet very challenging climb (for a car's cooling system). Even modern cars will run pretty hot ascending a very long steep grade in summer heat, unless they have been factory or custom prepped for track use essentially. I put an upgraded radiator in my Mustang GT to better deal with the heat + altitude combo that's so brutal in this region, and now it takes whatever I throw at it. Thanks for the great route to follow in your footsteps, I just might do that this summer. And I love to tent camp along the way....the looks you get from other people pulling camping gear out of your low and loud sports car never gets old!
Can't wait Sunday morning, grabbing my coffee and son and watching this episode while still in warm bed.
"In Search of Sasquatch" that was a kickass In Search of
I'll have to say it again: every time I see Todd talking about that 300 ZX just makes me want that car more and more. I pretty much NEED one right now!
I've had the good fortune of driving through Glacier twice this year on my now 40,000+ mile road trip, and it is quite possibly the most beautiful place in the country. Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming are a different world entirely.
Glad you've seen this area. Thanks for watching!
I love these road trip videos! I'm building a wagon from this era for this specific purpose, to see the 49 states in it and enjoy all the great roads I can find. To that end, thank you for giving me some notes to take for some of those states! Already living in Colorado, mine will be tuned by a shop that has built cars for Pikes Peak, so elevation shouldn't be a problem.
My wife loves the cooperation and verbal banter between you guys as well as the gags within the show. Keep up the good work!
Glad you are both enjoying. Thanks for watching!
Great series! Loved hearing the Stillen story again. If you aren't listening to the podcast you're missing out! Can't wait to see the gags for the South trip!
My son is always excited to watch these road trips, every now and then he’ll watch a comparison, but these he runs to watch; looking forward to the gags.
Thrilled to hear this. Hope you both enjoy!
Thank you for the excellent production. I’ll echo the similarities to the classic Top Gear adventures. Definitely a much needed pick me up!
We are extremely flattered to be compared to Top Gear adventures. Thank you for watching!
Yay Christmas came early
300zx and 3000gt. 2 engines that are so packed in.
What an epic video! The vistas were phenomenal and is sure inspiring me to take more road trips. Thanks guys for making this road trip series. Well Done!!
No fancy cameras or editing here - just amazing scenery, good commentary, and great cars. Nicely done, hope you guys continue these. Going to plan for a trip in the spring.
I absolutely love these road trips! Nothing better then taking a fun car out for a long cruise. I did this in my C4 from Iowa to the tail of the dragon, I took a mustang GT from Iowa to San Diego, and I’m already planning my PCH trip in my next toy for 2024 along with a massive trip to Maine in that same toy in 2025.
Fun cars are meant to be driven!!
What a wonderful and epic trip! My ‘84 928 looks just like y’all’s and a good friend has a 300ZX Turbo!
"Right car, right weather, right friend.." Couldn't express it any better. Thanks for your vids.
Once again another beautiful production!! Thanks!!
Travis's dad.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and we hope you'll share!
Old cars, beautiful road with no traffic, what a treat! btw love the 928
My favorite video series with two gorgeous cars. When you guys come south, you’ve got to check out NW Arkansas. Most will tell you to hit TN/NC for Tail of the Dragon, which is great, and you should go if possible, but you can spend hours and hours on incredible roads in the Ozarks. I can’t wait to go back again. I got a ton of info from the state to plan my trip when I went. Pig Trail and other routes were simply awesome, while not crowded with other drivers and events like TotD.
Incredibly fun adventure, awesome review and views. Bigfoot sightings, hilarious!!
Love these road trip videos! bout to hit the road tomorrow in my red 300z from melbourne australia to the beaches of the south coast of south australia... 40 plus temp forcast and no air con! I think it will be roof off hat wearing driving LOL
Love seeing the country through your eyes. This has been a fun series.
Simply amazing on so many levels!! Thank you for everything you do for us. You inspire, educate and entertain me.
We’re thrilled you’re watching and enjoying this series! It’s always encouraging to know it’s playing as intended!
Thank you for sharing your stunning trip. The drive North from Cody is now on my bucket list.
I'm loving this series so so sooooo much!
Wonderful job guys. Love ya, happy holidays!
Amazing as always, guys! Those vistas are insane!
We tried hard to do them justice, but it's still even better in person. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for taking us with you on this epic roadtrip.
Great, amazing content! Keep it coming!
Awesome! Such good times!! Keep driving!
Absolutely beautiful scenery shared with the gorgeous lines of the 928 and 300Z
.
Thank you all for doing this. Loved the commentary from you both. What a breath of fresh air seeing 2 old iconic cars motor along awesome roadways.
Both cars look right at home on these roads 👍
Glad you enjoyed. Thank you for watching!
Fantastic! Thank you, and God bless America!
These videos just make me love my Z32 more and more.
Excellent video as always! Really love this series!
Great work lads!
That was a lot of fun! 😂
Just love the cinematography. Everyday Driver takes it to the next level! Cheers from Charlotte, NC
Thank You and Merry Christmas!
You guys do great things with cars! Yours is absolutely THE BEST series of car shows/videos produced today. Thank you.
That Z is a timeless design looks so good
Incredible scenery! Nice job to you and your crew! Love the cars
What a fun video; inspiring!
Wow that Steve Millen meet-up...what are the odds!? Incredible!!
Loving these road trip videos. Long winter nights have been spent looking through the classifieds and road maps to find great roads to great trails.
Fantastic scenery! Love the cinematography and with the overheating and sheer cliffs with nothing but a low old rock wall to keep you from plunging over the side added the right amount of tension and suspense to the video!
Paul like yours my heart rate was racing and spidey sense was tingling with those scary but beautiful heights! As well I laughed at the humor and costumes! Todd in a skirt? Now that would have been hilarious!
Very nicely done Paul, Todd and EverydayDriver team! Thanks for this video Christmas present! Cheers! 👍 👍
I have been looking at a 1990 NA 300ZX, and in doing my research stumbled across your channel, and this video.
No lie, tears down my face at the end. I live in Montana, and haven't been to Glacier in a while... you may have just sold me on a car, and a dream.
Thank you
Glad you found us and enjoyed this road trip film. Good luck on your 300zx search!
I've been road tripping my Z last few years. I love this series. Keep them coming. Giving me more ideas on some road trips
Love the road trip videos... keep them coming please. My wife and youngest daughter did a Spring highway 1 trip from Santa Cruz to Santa Barbara in my Maserati GrandCabrio Sport with the top down 99% of the time and it was glorious fun!
I live in the SF bay area(Berkeley) and would like to suggest a very nice drive, if you're not already aware of it.
Starting in the Berkeley area, go north on I-80 and cross over the bridge heading toward Vallejo. Shortly after going over the bridge go north on SR 29 and continue going through the vineyard areas around Napa. Stay on SR 29 until north of Rutherford and then go north on SR 128 towards St. Helena. You're in the heart of wine country here and it's a nice drive through the region. Continue on SR 128 as it travels northwest towards Geyserville. As you pass through Cloverdale you'll start entering into the best part of the trip, going through the old Redwood forest and the Anderson Valley. Here, the road looks as if it has been carved out of a mountain of giant Redwood trees, trees so densely packed that you'll have to turn your lights on in the middle of a sunny day. Take SR 128 until it terminates on the north California coast near Albion and Mendocino that are close to the Oregon border. Come back to the bay area along the US 1 on the coast and enjoy the picturesque drive with the rocky cliffs and ocean on your right and hills on your left.
I did this drive several years ago when my 370Z( a sport coupe 6MT) was new and loved it, being able to polish off the rust on my high-performance driving skills on the curves. I'm planning on doing it again in the summer of 2023 and will probably continue north along the coast to Albion into Oregon and maybe up to the Canadian border and into Vancouver. I've had some performance upgrades(engine hp about 378 hp) and suspension upgrades with general lightening and this might be a good drive for stretching my Z's legs a little.
If you're interesting in such a trip let me know and we might be able to coordinate it and plan an itinerary. I used to own a Porsche 944S and so it might be nice to have a group of German and Japanese performance car afficionados on a leisurely road trip.
You should check out the first of this series where we started at the Golden Gate Bridge and went on up Highway 1, through the redwoods, up the Oregon coast, up the Washington coast, and ending in Seattle.
Wonderful video, TY!!
Wow, wow, wow! Talk about a epic road trip. Even squabbles with your buddy and encounters with dangerous mythical creatures couldn’t ruin the fun. Great job.
been enjoying this series. looking forward to the next trip.
Glad you’re enjoying. We hope you’ll share with someone else that would enjoy them. Thanks for watching!
I’m from Melbourne Australia and loved watching your road trip. Absolutely stunning scenery that I never knew existed in the US. Great video guys. Keep it up.
Thank you for watching! More on the way!
Made the trip through the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Bitterroot Valley and Going To The Sun route on a motorcycle about 25 years ago.
This certainly brought back memories.
Amazing scenery, and an epic travel log. Loved the squatch sightings. So jealous of the trips you take. Todd, I hope you figure out the mystery of the disappearing coolant soon.
Legendary!!
A few years ago, I bought a 1988 944 turbo in Twin Falls Idaho. First look at the car, it seemed to be alright. The leather seats were hard as rock, and all the black trim was grey. But, the seller had a five car garage, one section with a lift and every possible tool. A couple of amazing muscle cars! That gave me some confidence The Porsche had no records. But, he said it was running well. I told him I was going to drive it back to Los Angeles that night.. A slightly concerned expression fell over his face - " You sure you wanna do that?". His wife prepared some tasty tacos, and they offered me a spare bedroom for that night. But I was ready to drive. Left around sunset, drove through Nevada all night, stopped in Reno for pancakes and a quick read through the owners manual. After that. Ever town I passed. I said to myself - I really should buy a fire extinguisher, and every odd sound would create a wave of anxiety. By mid day. It was 95 degrees. The heat wash from those engines is insane! Got to LA just in time for rush hour. That feeling of - WOW, this is beautiful!! At same time - Am I going to blow up? I'D DO IT AGAIN IN A HEART BEAT!!
This video surprised me. At first, I was enjoying it but thinking "yeah, it's nice, but the roads look kind of boring". Then at about 1/3rd of the way through that all changed, and the roads suddenly became spectacular, and some of the best I've seen in all 3 of your compass trips so far! Really look like they'd be fun to drive (as long as you have a reliable car!).
I always loved both of these cars ! Great job filming, loved the big foot sighting. I have made car purchase decisions in the past after watching your reviews. Thanks.
The Steve Millen story just put a big smile on my face while watching.
Really crazy. Glad you enjoyed, and thanks for watching!
Steve is an awesome human. Got to meet him in 2004 during the annual ZCON, and he talked to us about the design of the #75 car there at Stillen, and then invited us out to hang out in their garage at the track during a historics race that weekend. Was a great experience.
I've done this same trip many times on sport touring motorcycles (Yamaha FJR 1300). I keep going back because it just can't be beat...gorgeous! Love the trips, keep up the good work!
Ever got concerned about the wildlife being too close while riding?..where did you start off from?. I have also an FJR and I only do paved roads, she's a heavy gal.
@@zeommed I originate from Minnesota. In 2010 on my way back from Alaska I hit a deer in the mountains of British Columbia. Nothing I could do to miss her...she ran out at full speed on a narrow mountain road. Totaled my first FJR. Several years later I got back on a new FJR and went to the Bighorns and Beartooth Mountains again. Deer are all around where I live in the back and beyond of Minnesota...I have to ride 5 miles on gravel just to get to pavement. The big bike does just fine. I've done mountain riding for almost 30 years now and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Their videography is great, but it doesn't come close to the real thing. You really need to experience it for yourself. A bike brings you so much closer to nature. I've had numerous sports cars and convertibles all my life, but the bike experience in country like that is the best you can get. FJR's are a special bike...let her take you places you've never been. Good luck and great riding!
I have a FJR1300 as well, and dream of riding a road like that. I live in Texas where there the twistys are few and far between. Arkansas has some good roads, but nothing like this. I'll have to add it to my bucket list.
The 300zx is a timeless design.
Looking forward to the final trip
Your poor cars on the gravel in Glacier! Ha ha, accidentally found that out as well, but was at least in my 5 spd Tacoma, but had a camper on the back.
Can't wait to go back through the good parts in my fun car, 1991 MR2. Great video!
